Proud Dad Moment, My Oldest Son Graduates from High School

Hello,

Since I'm a pretty private person I try to keep this blog away from personal details. However I'd like to make an exception today. The oldest of my 4 children graduated from high school yesterday. He attended Davis High School in Kaysville, Utah. This was the school's 100th graduating class, which is a relatively old school here in Utah.

He wasn't one of the schools top scholars, athletes or artists. He was one of your average every day kids who went to school, did what was needed and graduated. I couldn't be more proud of him if he had been one of his schools top scholars, athletes or artists. He was 1 of 705 kids who are looking towards a bright future and hoping for the best.

Anyway it was a proud Dad moment for me and I was proud to share the moment with him. We celebrated afterwards at our favorite place to eat, Olive Garden. He'll be going to Junior College this fall, which is another proud Dad moment. I know that will further his education in not only in school, but in life. As with any other 18 year old, he still has a lot to learn about life. But I know he can learn what is needed and overcome any obstacle that stands in his way.

I'm proud of you big boy!

Things I'm Not Writing About: May 28th, 2014: Lauren German's Amazing Eyes, The Continuing Decline of the Dallas Cowboys

Hello,

On October 9th, 2011 I wrote about Lauren German's green eyes on this blog. She must have been using colored contacts as it seems her natural eye color is blue. Well whatever her actual eye color is, she still has amazing eyes. In 2011 she was appearing on "Hawaii 5-0", that was before that show went in the toilet. Now the lovely Miss German is appearing on the much better "Chicago Fire", here she is in her full glory.

Of course she's not the only one that's gorgeous on this show, there's also Monica Raymund:

From two amazingly beautiful women to the continued doldrums of the Dallas Cowboys. Yes, Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys had a good offseason finally. However that's not enough to overcome several years of the many terrible decisions by Jerruh Jones. Yesterday in the teams first Organized Team Activity (OTA) , Sean Lee tore the ACL in his left leg and is likely out for the season. (A tip of the hat to those Cowboys fans who say that Lee could be back for the playoffs and then acknowledging the ridiculousness of that idea. The formerly great Cowboys have missed the playoffs 5 of the last 6 years and their situation seems to be trending down.)

Will this be the only injury that affects the Cowboys? Since this is the NFL, of course not. Jones' continued love of injured players will continue to haunt the Cowboys this season. Look for DeMarco Murray and Morris Claiborne to both miss games this season. Claiborne is hilariously talking about the "The sky is the limit" and he has "big dreams". What does he mean by "the sky is the limit", does he mean how much he'll continue to waste his potential? And by "big dreams", is he referring to still getting paid and producing so very little on the field. Claiborne is a bust, get rid of him asap.

Claiborne missed about half of last season and when he played he really struggled. In typical Cowboys fashion the Cowboys gave up two picks to acquire this bum. Then as this is the NFL there will be a few other players that miss significant time due to injury.

And now Dez Bryant is stating that he "deserves" to be one of the highest paid wide receivers in the game. I don't necessarily disagree, but I wish the Cowboy players would focus on making the playoffs first before they worry about getting taken care of. Dez, I guarantee no one feels sorry for you for "only" making $1.8 million this season.

And don't even start me on that ridiculous contract Tony Romo signed, I guarantee that's going to come back to haunt the Cowboys very soon.

Looking at the start of the Cowboys season the Cowboys very easily could start 0-4. They open up the season at home against the 49ers, a team with something to prove. They then play two road games against the Titans and then the up and coming Rams. Dallas then returns to Jerry World for Sunday Night Football to play the Saints, one of the many teams that exposed Dallas's terrible defense last season. Without Lee, Hatcher and Ware this defense hasn't improved enough to be in the top half of the league. I predict the Boys will be 1-3 after these 4 games.

And in week 6 the Cowboys will be traveling to Seattle and will be absolutely demolished by the Seahawks unless they still have some Super Bowl hangover. If that's the case then Seattle will only win by 21 points.

As a lifelong fan of the Cowboys, I can't wait until this team has new ownership. Jerry haven't you destroyed the NFL's once greatest franchise enough yet? I don't have any realistic hope that Jones will ever sell the team, why because he know no one will care about his opinion. He loves the spotlight and won't give that up for any thing. Real Dallas Cowboys will continue to suffer because of his pride.

themusicaddict's Top 100 +2 All-time iTunes Played List (Part 8: The Top Ten)

Hello,

This is my Top 100 + 2 songs that have been played on my iTunes,  it started on August 29th, 2011. This comes from my iTunes and even I'm surprised about some of the songs on this list. The number of Taylor Swift are a bit skewed because my two middle kids and I went and saw her in concert. At that time they were getting the songs for their iPods from my iTunes. I loaded their iPods with a lot of Ms. Swift's songs. Many songs benefit from being on my Sunday Music playlist, that list contains about 1,600 songs. Plus the 830 songs on my iPod have a much better chance of racking up listens obviously.

Also as most of you probably notice when you listen to iTunes on shuffle, the shuffle seems to favor the same few hundred songs. There's also a lot of 80s songs on here as well, because well I'm old. Plus as iTunes is a living thing and constantly changing, so will this list. When a song in my top 100 plays I'll update my blog accordingly.

#10) Another song that has a lot of listens as it was on my daughters iPod, when she was going through her Justin Bieber phase. Bieber's "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town" has 38 listens on my iTunes:

The following 3 songs are tied for #7 on my most played iTunes list with 39 listens. All 3 songs are Taylor Swift songs.

Another one of my favorite Swift songs, "Our Song":

Also one of my personal favorites by Miss Swift, "Picture To Burn":

"Fifteen":

Tied for 5th place with 40 listens are these two songs, first up is the Beastie Boys "Girls":

This is the last Taylor Swift song on this list, "Teardrops On My Guitar":

At #4 with 41 listens is Jan and Dean "Dead Man's Curve":

These two songs are tied for #2 with 42 listens

Europe's "Final Countdown":

Dolly Parton's "Me and Little Andy" is one of the saddest songs ever, this song gets me every time:

And the song that is most listened to on my iTunes is The Charlie Daniels Band is "The Devil Went Down To Georgia", it has 43 listens:

Down to the Top 25 all-time played songs on my iTunes.

The songs below are tied at #22 with 32 listens, U2 with B.B. King's "When Love Comes To Town".

Bono is a hell of a songwriter, he has written some of the most amazing lyrics of the last 100 years. B.B. King and Muddy Waters are my two favorite Blues singers. King is still touring, R.I.P Muddy. This video is very cool, from "Rattle and Hum":

Here's the actual song "When Love Comes To Town":

Taylor Swift's "Mean":

Jeff Carson's "The Car":

Chicago's "Alive Again":

All 3 of these songs are tied at # 19 with 33 listens. First up, yes another Taylor Swift song, this is by far one of my favorite songs of hers "Love Story" ("Just say yes") :

Probably my current favorite country band. Their most recent CD "Pioneer" is amazing. It's even better than their very good debut CD. The Band Perry's "If I Die Young":

I love me some The Band Perry. And as a bonus song here's another one of my favorite The Band Perry's songs "Better Dig Two":

From one of the most under rated current bands, comes another of their amazing songs. Arcade Fire's "Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains):

themusicaddict's Top 100 + 2 All-time iTunes Played List (Part 5) (Updated May 25th, 2014)

Hello,

Updated to reflect Whitney Houston moving up a notch.

All these songs are tied at # 35 with 29 listens:

Quite simply, one of the best ballads ever, Poison's "Every Rose Has Its Thorn":

No Rihanna songs on this list but I do have two LMFAO songs on here, funny how a shared iPod playlist will alter these rankings. "Sexy And I Know It":

This is just one of the amazing songs off the greatest CD of all-time, Led Zeppelin's "IV". The only Led Zeppelin song on here, another surprise, "When The Levee Breaks":

Jeremy Fisher's "Snowflakes":

Blake Shelton's "Ol' Red":

All these songs are tied for #26 with 30 listens:

I'm so very surprised this is the only Whitney Houston song in my Top 100 + 2. Also I don't have any Rihanna songs on this list either. Those two ladies are two of my favorite singers ever. The amazing Whitney Houston singing "Didn't We Almost Have It All":

For some reason it was in the early 90s when Whitney started mixing up the arrangements of her songs when singing live. In my opinion she hurts many of her classics when doing this, as she does above. Was she beginning to lose her voice then or did she just get bored singing the same song over and over again? I don't know, but this is how I prefer to hear this song:

Three songs from the lovely Taylor Swift, "Tim McGraw":

"You Belong With Me":

"White Horse":

Yet another amazing pop nugget from the 80s, Olivia Newton John's "Make A Move On Me":

In case you hadn't realized it, I'm a Mormon. The official name of the church is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. This is the Mormon Tabernacle Choir singing Janice Kapp Perry's "I'm Trying To Be Like Jesus":

Elvis Costello's "Alison":

Both of these songs are tied for # 26 with 31 listens:

Colbie Caillat's "Bubbly":

Lady Gaga's "Poker Face":

Bonus song to the countdown. And for those of you who were thinking doesn't Colbie Caillat sing that "head under water" song, the answer is no. That's Sara Bareilles' "Lovesong":

themusicaddict's Top 100 + 2 All-time iTunes Played List (Part 4) (Updated May 25th, 2014)

Plus as iTunes is a living thing and constantly changing, so will this list. When a song in my top 100 plays I'll update my blog accordingly.

All these songs are tied at # 49 with 27 listens.

It's hard to believe that someone so young could have so many great songs. This is another one of her amazing songs. "Enchanted" - Taylor Swift:

This poor quality video is the only video available on YouTube. I can't even hear what the song sounds like. Check out this song and band on either Rdio.com or Spotify. "All Lies"- Quarterfly:

No disrespect intended, this song got several listens when I went through a very brief Chant phase and shuffle play. This kind of song is so relaxing to listen to. I couldn't find a video available for the artist I have on my iTunes. "Epiphania Domini"- Congregation of St. Lazurus Autun and Fulvio Rampi.

"Two Is Better Than One"- Boys Like Girls (featuring Taylor Swift):

"Just The Way You Are"- Billy Joel:

Before my laptop's hard drive ran out of room, I added every song I could to my iTunes. The reason why is because sometimes I found gems like this. "Eve, The Apple Of My Eye"- Bell X1:

All these songs are tied at # 27 with 28 listens.

"Drugs or Jesus"- Tim McGraw:

A song that hasn't received enough attention. "Mixtape"- Tift Merritt:

Here comes a run of 6 Taylor Swift songs, starting with "Haunted":

"The Story of Us":

The song that's alleged to be about John Mayer, "Dear John":

One of the highlights of Ms. Swift's live show, "Speak Now":

"Change":

"Fearless":

"Bohemian Rhapsody"- Queen

But first let's show the Muppets version:

Now here's Queen's version:

"Forever Your Girl"- Paula Abdul:

Without a doubt, one of the greatest songs of all-time. "Heart of Gold"- Neil Young with the Stray Gators:

From my daughter's way too long Bieber fever, from which she has thankfully recovered now. "Mistletoe"- Justin Bieber:

"You Make Me Feel (featuring Sabi)"- Cobra Starship:

"She's Always A Woman"- Billy Joel:

themusicaddict's Top 100 + 2 All-time iTunes Played List, (Part 3) (Updated May 25th, 2014)

Hello,

Updated as "You Don't Bring Me Flowers" received another listen and moved into the songs tied for 60th place.

This is my Top 100 + 1 songs that have been played on my iTunes,  it started on August 29th, 2011. This comes from my iTunes and even I'm surprised about some of the songs on this list. The number of Taylor Swift are a bit skewed because my two middle kids and I went and saw her in concert. At that time they were getting the songs for their iPods from my iTunes. All these songs are tied for 60th on my iTunes Most Played List with 26 listens:

U2's "Elevation":

Travis Tritt's "Help Me Hold On":

The Tokens "The Lion Sleeps Tonight (Wimoweh)":

Tim McGraw "Don't Take The Girl":

This is just such a great song. Tenacious D's "Tribute" ("This is not the greatest song in the world, this is a tribute".):

Taylor Swift's "Mine":

Taylor Swift's "Breathe":

Stan Ridgway's "Camouflauge" (It's not acceptable to have the 5 minute version, you need to have all 7 minutes of this song. The ending of this song gives me goosebumps every time.):

Lady Antebellum's "American Honey":

The incredibly sweet, but sad song "Daisy" by Halfway To Hazard:

Although "American Idol" peaked with Season 7 and is a mere shadow of it's former self there still are the occasional great singer following Season 7. Crystal Bowersox is one of those and I love her cover of the Buffalo Springfield classic "For What Its Worth":

Colbie Caillat's "Oxygen":

B.J. Thomas' "Raindrops Keep On Falling On My Head":

Barbara Striesand and Neil Diamond's "You Don't Bring Me Flowers":

themusicaddict's Top 100 + 2 All-time iTunes Played List, (Part 2) (Updated May 25th, 2014)

Hello,

Update: This blog is updated to include the Dixie Chicks "You Were Mine" just had it's 24th listen on my iTunes.

The next few songs are tied for 87th place in my Top 102, these songs all have 24 listens:

This is probably not a song you want to listen to in public, you don't want people to get the wrong idea. Jethro Tull's "Aqualung" (Live):

Gary Wright's "Dream Weaver":

The Dixie Chicks "You Were Mine":

With Natalie Maines not wanting to record, the other two Dixie Chicks still wanted to make music. Emily Robison and Martie Maguire formed the Court Yard Hound's "It Didn't Make A Sound":

Billy Joel's "Los Angelenos" (you know that they all come from somewhere):

The stalker song, Adele's "Someone Like You":

The next several songs are tied for 74th place with 25 listens:

Taylor Swift's "A Place In This World":

Taylor Swift's "The Way I Loved You":

Ozzy Osbourne's "Crazy Train":

OneRepublic's "Secret":

Macy Gray's "Why Didn't You Call Me?":

Although Led Zeppelin is my all-time favorite band, I find it bizarre Linda Ronstadt has more songs on this list than do the Mighty Zep, 2 to 1. "So Right, So Wrong":

Linda Ronstadt's "Trouble Again":

The Doobie Brothers "What A Fool Believes":

Cascada's "Evacuate The Dancefloor":

Carly Simon's "You're So Vain":

Bob Marley and the Wailers "Iron Lion Zion":

Billy Joel's "All For Leyna":

"American Idiot's" Cast "Favorite Son":

themusicaddict's Great Songs May 15th, 2014

Hello,

Yesterday I listened to a lot of music on Spotify, the two main musicians I listened to were Prince and Shirley Bassey. I never know where the whim will take me. So this blog will feature music by those two, but first some other songs that are really cool.

Lucy Hale's "Kiss Me":

From Arcade Fire's very good recent CD "Reflektor", this is "Joan of Arc":

Believe it or not, I discovered this song watching "Catfish" on MTV. Imaginary Cities' "Bells of Cologne":

From the good New Politics album "A Bad Girl In Harlem", this is my favorite song off the CD, "Goodbye Copenhagen":

I'm posting a live video because I look forward to seeing them with Paramore and Fall Out Boy late this summer.

Here's a couple of very cool songs from Shirley Bassey. I've been listening to a lot of her music lately on Spotify and I really like her.

This is her amazing cover of "Send In The Clowns":

Propellerheads (feat. Shirley Bassey) with "History Repeating":

3RDEYEGIRL (featuring Prince) "Fixurlifeup":

3RDEYEGIRL (featuring Prince) "Pretzelbodylogic" (preview):

Now for some Prince song. With Prince averse to Youtube, and apparantely making money, I'll go with Sheila E's "Erotic City":

3RDEYEGIRL (featuring Prince) "She Always In My Hair":

themusicaddict's "Crazy" Songs

Hello,

There are quite a few great songs with the word "crazy" in the title, here are some of my favorites. Yes this blog was inspired by my blog from yesterday when I featured Carly Smithson's cover of "Crazy On You".

This is Heart's "Crazy On You":

Of course this is one of the first "crazy" songs I thought of, Ozzy's "Crazy Train":

Sticking with the rock genre, Aerosmith's "Crazy":

Pink Floyd's "Shine On You Crazy Diamond", Parts 1-9, the full 25 minute version:

Queen's "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" (I've never seen this video before. Since this is Queen, I'm guessing it's intentionally campy.) :

Of course Queen will be featured again when I write a blog for all the songs that have the word "Bohemian" in the title.

It's not a surprise that Guns N' Roses has a song with the word "crazy" in the title. What's shocking is that they only have one "crazy" song, "You're Crazy" (Acoustic):

Sammy Hagar's "Your Love Is Driving Me Crazy":

Victoria Williams "Crazy Mary":

This song was popularized when Pearl Jam covered the song for "Sweet Relief", an album to raise money for Williams. Although this isn't a song actually written by the members of Pearl Jam, this is still one of my favorite Pearl Jam songs.

The rest of these songs are roughly in chronological order:

The amazing Patsy Cline and one of the very first "crazy" songs:

Paul Simon's "Still Crazy After All These Years":

Paul Davis' "I Go Crazy" (What a powerful song.) :

Madonna's "Crazy For You":

Prince's "Let's Go Crazy" (Who knows how long this video will be available, sadly this version doesn't feature the spoken introduction.) I love this new very funky update of "Let's Go Crazy", this must be his all girl band that I've heard about. This is paired with a very funky new Prince song "Fix Ur Life Up".

Prince does have another new song available on Spotify, it's called "The Breakdown" and frankly it's not very good.

Roland Gift leads the Fine Young Cannibals on "She Drives Me Crazy":

Seal's "Crazy":

Evan and Jaron's "Crazy About This Girl":

An U2 song that doesn't get enough love "I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight":

Songs Recently Rocking themusicaddict's iPod, May 13th, 2014: Where Taylor Swift Got Her Name From

Hello,

I'm writing another test blog to make sure I've figured out how to add multiple songs to my blog. These are just some songs that have rocked my iPod or my life in the last few days. Hopefully tomorrow I'll be back with one of my more traditional blogs. If you ever have some entertainment related thing you'd like me to research, just comment on any of my blogs. That sends an e-mail to me and I'll dig up what I can about your request/ question.

Carly Smithson's incredible take on "Crazy On You", she does this song as well as Heart.

One of the musicians of the 80s who made that decade so good for music. Madonna's "La Isla Bonita":

Adele's "Rolling In The Deep"(Live):

Red Hot Chili Peppers "Suck My Kiss":

Evanescence's "My Immortal" (Rock Version):

The Lumineers "Ho Hey":

One of the most beautiful songs of all-time. James Taylor's absolutely heartbreaking "Fire and Rain":

One of the reasons I enjoy blogging is that I discover cool moments like below. This is pretty cool, James Taylor and his namesake Taylor Swift sing "Fire and Rain": (Goosebumps alert!)

The song that features one of my all-time favorite lines in a song: "The best of times is when I'm alone with you". Styx's "The Best of Times":

Matchbox Twenty's "Bright Lights":

Simple Minds "Promised You A Miracle":

And for no other reason than I absolutely love this song, Jimmy Buffet's "Margaritaville":

If time allows, tomorrow a bunch of "crazy" songs.

Making Sure I Figured Out How To Add Videos To My Blog Again

Hello,

This is a test to see if I had figured out how to add videos to my blog. After not being able to add videos for the last few days I decided to Google it. The process of adding a video has been changed and for some reason made more difficult.

This is one of my favorite songs of all-time, this might even be a Top 100 song:

Dearest Blogger: I hate the switching back and forth between the HTML and compose tabs. Can you please change it back to where we can do everything on the compose tab? Please.

"The Amazing Spiderman 2": Good Movie, Great Songs

Hello,

Yesterday I went to see "The Amazing Spiderman 2" with two of my kids. Honestly I wouldn't have seen it if my kids hadn't wanted to go. After the 3 incredibly boring Tobey Maguire Spiderman movies, I had no interest in seeing the reboot. That's in spite of liking both Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. But with my kids wanting to see it I decided to take them. I hadn't seen the first movie so I watched that this past Monday, I was quite surprised when I liked that. Although I was surprised by how little chemistry Garfield and Stone had in this movie.

Although this sequel had too many endings, overall I enjoyed the movie very much. The chemistry between Garfield and Stone was vastly improved. But then that ending and Gwen...... I liked the way the Rhino was introduced, that should lead to an explosive opening of the third "Amazing Spiderman". The Rhino, if his role is done right, seems could be one of the cooler villains in modern superhero movies.

This soundtrack has the most surprising collection of great songs since "The Great Gatsby". Both share Alicia Keys songs, which I don't think is a coincidence. Who doesn't love Alicia Keys? Stunningly gorgeous, great singer and a great songwriter.

I wish I could add videos to my blog, but I continue to be unable to add videos from youtube.com. I have put the url below each song. If you want to listen to all these great songs much more painlessly, I suggest you go to Spotify. Find Guillermo Giaz's "Amazing Spiderman 2" playlist and you'll be able to listen to all 8 songs listed below. I listened to that playlist 3 times last night.

The Bloated Payroll of 2014 Dodgers Mediocrity, Why The Dodgers Are The NL West's Third Place Team (Updated May 10th, 2014)

Hello,

Updated May 10th, 2014. After the Dodgers had 5 hits and 1 run on Thursday, they followed that dud with an even worse game Friday. LA only had 4 hits and 1 run on Friday. And again guess who it was that provided the Dodgers lone run, yep it was Yasiel Puig. He was 1-4, which slightly decreased his batting average to .308. However he did hit his 5th homer and notched his 23rd RBI, both stats he leads Matt Kemp in. However Kemp showed some signs of life in this game, he was 2-3 and raised his woeful batting average to .262. Although both hits were only singles, I love that he even had two hits in one game. Sadly Dee Gordon (.328), Adrian Gonzalez (.265), Hanley Ramirez (.254), and Scott Van Slyke (.250) were 0-16 in this game. The only other Dodger with a hit was Justin Turner, he was 1-3 and is hitting .182.

LA slips to 19-18 and now trail their arch rivals by 4.5 games. LA has only won 2 of 8 games against the Giants this season. They play each other again in early games Saturday and Sunday.

May 9th, 2014:

I'm not sure if it's just my Youtube account, or if it's affecting everyone, but I haven't been able to add Youtube videos to my blog the last several days. Without being able to add these great songs, writing music blogs just isn't as fun. I'd love to share new songs from Imaginary Cities ("Bells of Cologne"), a cool song by Sky Ferreira ("24 Hours") and many other songs. Hopefully whatever is going on will be resolved soon.

All stats for this blog are current through May 8th, 2014 and I get them straight from ESPN.com. Thanks to them. My apologies and responsibility if I messed up on any of the math.

On to the overpaid, under performing Dodgers, just what does $235,295,219 get you? (Thanks to Deadspin.com for this figure.) Well what it's getting the Dodgers and their fans is a team barely above .500 and in third place in the NL West. The Dodgers are 3.5 games behind the Giants, who are paying $81 million dollars less. Even the high scoring Rockies are paying considerably less than the Dodgers.  LA is paying $139.5 million more than the Rockies, the Rockies have scored 67 more runs than LA. Just for fun the Rockies are paying $445,730 per run, while LA is paying $1,589,832 per run.

Who are the worst offenders on the Dodgers? First, I want to offer up a comparison and contrast. Although the Dodgers are tied for 8th place in runs scored, too many times they score very few runs. Last night LA was playing at home! against their long-time hated rival Giants! and were only able to score 1 run. Fittingly that one run was scored on a sacrifice fly by Drew Butera. Here's the comparison and contrast, that RBI was Butera's 5th RBI of the season. In only 12 games he's tied for 9th place for the Dodgers RBI lead. Meanwhile highly paid, but wildly under performing Matt Kemp, has played 18 more games. Guess how many more RBIs Kemp has than Butera? He has all of 4 more RBIs. Kemp, by the way, is making $20.5 million more than Butera.

Sadly, unlike the NFL, MLB contracts are fully guaranteed. If the Dodgers could release players, there are at least 3 players I wish they'd be able to cut. Those players would include Josh Beckett, he's making $17 million. I'll admit he's pitching much better than I expected this season (0-1, 2.80 ERA), but he's not "worth" $17,000,000 for this season. (Of course the caveat is that very few professional athletes are worth what they are paid.) I also wish the Dodgers could cut Brandon League. Again he's pitching much better than I expected, (1-1, 1.96 ERA, O saves for the player the Dodgers signed to be the closer), but in no way is he worth $8,500,000. The Dodgers, or anyone else frankly, probably can get similar performance for much less money.

I already mentioned Kemp, who clearly is on the downhill side of his career. Kemp is hitting only .250, has 4 homers and 9 RBIs. Coming over in that 2012 trade with the Red Sox is Carl Crawford, a trade haunting the Dodgers more and more each season. Crawford is paid $21,107,143, for that he's hitting all of .257. Then the last of the overpaid outfield is Andre Ethier, who I also wish LA could cut. If LA could cut Beckett, League and Ethier that would save the Dodgers $40 million this season alone. The Dodgers are paying out so much money than everyone else, that $40 million would only drop them to second place in payroll. Once Hyun-Jin Ryu gets back from the DL, the Dodgers will have plenty of pitching. If the Dodgers could dump Ethier that would give them 3 outfielders, only 3 outfielders can play at once. And if needed Joc Pederson is in Albuquerque seemingly ready to go. Ethier, who is being paid $15,500,000, is only hitting .248, with 2 homers, but at least he has 16 RBIs.

Of course the best Dodgers outfielder is the least paid of the 4 mentioned, that's Yasiel Puig. He's a relative bargain at $3,714, 286 for this season. He's hitting .310, has 4 homers and 22 RBIs. He also has 4 stolen bases. Of course the 23 year old Puig is a bit of a head case, but he'll probably grow out of that.

The Dodgers also need to get more out of the highly paid, but I'm glad they are Dodgers, Hanley Ramirez and Adrian Gonzalez. Gonzalez, the Dodgers Mr. Consistent last season, is only hitting .273. Ramirez, who was also very valuable for the Dodgers last season, is only hitting .261 in 2014.

Thank goodness for the 3 Dodgers hitting over .300. Those players are the surprising Dee Gordon, he's hitting .338. Jose Uribe is hitting .306 and I already mentioned Puig's .310 batting average.

It's hard to believe when the Dodgers have the highest payroll in MLB history, they desperately need another bat to give this Dodgers team more offense. Just because you have the money doesn't mean you should spend it. The Dodgers need to get better at finding and developing talented players.

Billboard's Top Songs When themusicaddict Was Found Under A Rock (June 10th, 1967)

Hello,

I would like to thank Billboard Magazine for making this list available on the internet.

Have you ever wondered what the top songs were when you were born? Well I did wonder about that and thanks to Google I found Billboard's Top 100 + Bubbling Under (Songs 101-120) for my exact birthdate of June 10th, 1967. Reading this list I'm amazed at how many amazing songs, songs that we now consider classics, were on this one list. But also on this list there were some songs and bands that I had never heard of. If you would like to read the list, here's the link:

http://books.google.com/booksid=2ycEAAAAMBAJ&pg=PA57&dq=billboards+top+10+songs+on+June+10th,+1967+united+states&hl=en&sa=X&ei=etnU5vOKorEoAS05IDwBg&ved=0CDoQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&q&f=true

As I'm wont to do when researching a topic about music, I listen to the music I'm writing about. Thanks to Spotify I can do just that. I would personally like to thank David Garza for his 1,320 song, 64 hour and 21 minute playlist of the the songs of 1967.

How much of the dreck played on the radio will be considered classics 47 years from now? My guess is not many. I don't think Ke$ha or Miley Cyrus will even be remembered by then.

Bizarre songs include: The Monkees "Zilch", Donavan's "Epistle to Dippy" (yes, that's a real song) and The Royal Guardsmen "Airplane Song".

Stand out songs from 1967 I'd never heard before or shouldn't have been forgotten: Shirley Bassey's "Big Spender", The Seekers "Georgy Girl", Aretha Franklin's "Lee Cross", Cher's "You Better Sit Down" (a heartbreaking song about telling kids about their parents getting divorced), Freddie Scott's "Am I Grooving You",  Ronnie Dove's "I Wanna Love You For What You Are", Engelbert Humperdinck's "Theres A Hush (All Over The World)", Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons "C'mon Marianne".

Bassey's "Big Spender":

Here's the songs I find intriguing from the top 120 of June 10th, 1967: (Sadly for some reason Youtube isn't allowing people to add songs to blogs etc. today. Hopefully later I'll be able to add videos for all these songs.)

113) " Carrie Ann"- The Hollies:

68) "I Was Made To Love Her"- Stevie Wonder
61) "Light My Fire"- The Doors:

44) " Up-Up and Away"- The Fifth Dimension:

33) "Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead"- Fifth Estate

32) "San Francisco: Wear Some Flowers In Your Hair"- Scott McKenzie (one of my personal favs):

29) "Ain't No Mountain High Enough"- Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell:

26) "New York Mining Disaster (Have You Seen My Wife Mr. Jones)"- The Bee Gees
24) "Girl, You'll Be A Woman Soon"- Neil Diamond

17) "Can't Take My Eyes Off of You"- Frankie Valli (Which was remade so masterfully by Lauryn Hill in 1998.)

Lauryn Hill's version:

15) "Let's Live For Today"- The Grass Roots:

12) "Windy"- The Association:

10) "Creeque Alley"- The Mamas & The Papas
9) "All I Need Is You"- The Temptations
8) "Little Bit 'O' Soul"- Music Explosion (This is a song that I didn't recognize by the title, but when I played it I knew this song. Great song!)

7) "She'd Rather Be With Me"- The Turtles
6) "Somebody To Love"- Jefferson Airplane:

5) "Him Or Me- What's It Gonna Be"- Paul Revere and the Raiders
4) "Release Me (And Let Me Love Again)- Engelbert Humperdinck
3) "I Got Rhythm"- Happenings
2) "Groovin' "- Young Rascals

And the #1 song is one of the greatest and best songs of all-time, easily a Top 500 song: The Queen of Soul's "Respect":

themusicaddict's 11 Most Intriguing CDs Arriving In The Next Few Weeks+1 (Part 2) (Updated June 14th, 2014)

Hello,

Sadly as I'm writing this blog on May 6th, for some reason Youtube is being difficult to use so I can share the videos for each video. I'll have to add these songs at a later time. For now I'm not able to add videos to this blog. My apologies.

This is the second part of the blog I started yesterday. Yesterday I wrote about my 11th to the 6th most intriguing CDs being released over the next few weeks.

5) Night Ranger's "High Road" will be released on June 10th, 2014. I know I'm not the only one that thought to themselves "they are still recording?" They actually released a CD in 2011, "Somewhere In California. It must have made virtually no impact as I hadn't heard of it until doing research for this blog. Thanks to my friends at Spotify I listened to it yesterday. The fact that it's not great is probably the main reason why it didn't blow off the doors when released.

Night Ranger is know for such great songs as "Sister Christian", "The Secret of My Success", "Don't Tell Me You Love Me", "Sentimental Street", "When You Close Your Eyes", "Goodbye" and "(You Can Still) Rock In America".

Although Night Ranger released some of the best songs of the 80s, I'm expecting their new music to be closer to their 2011 CD in quality than their classic stuff. This is the title track from "High Road":

4) Cher Lloyd's "Sorry I'm Late" will be released on May 27th, 2014. Lloyd is the singer of this sassy little gem "Want U Back":

3) Michael Jackson's "Xscape" is set to be released on May 13th, 2014. Yes, another raid of the great Jackson's vault. Putting lipstick on a pig and you still have a pig. However I'm giving this CD a chance because Michael was such a genius. Although why are they only releasing 8 songs at a time. I take that as the vault is pretty barren, so to have as many "new" CDs of music they keeping the songs on each CD to a minimum. The first single off the 8 track "Xscape" is "Love Never Felt So Good", this sounds like an "Off The Wall" extra track.

"Love Never Felt So Good":

2) Black Stone Cherry's "Magic Mountain" was released today actually. This is the follow up CD to the excellent 2011 CD "Between The Devil and The Deep Blue Sea", this is the CD that got me to notice BSC. That powerhouse CD had such great songs "Let Me See You Shake", "In My Blood", "Blame It On The Boom Boom", "Stay" and "Change".

I'm actually listening to "Magic Mountain" now. While it's a perfectly good rock album, it really isn't breaking any new ground. Although it will sound good on your car's stereo late at night this summer.

1) The Black Keys' "Turn Blue" is scheduled to be released on May 13th, 2014. This is their follow up CD to the excellent "El Camino". The Black Keys have released such great songs as "Tighten Up", my theme song "Next Girl", "Lonely Boy" and "Gold On The Ceiling". Although it's not released yet, you can listen to it now at iTunes.

Then the bonus CD, a CD I just found out about today, is the double CD "Blondie 4 (O) Ever" which is broken down into two CDs. 1) "Ghosts of Download" is mostly full of new material, including a strange/awesome cover of Frankie Goes To Hollywood's "Relax". 2) "Deluxe Redux", a collection of 11 of their rerecorded greatest hits.

Thanks to rollingstone.com for the heads up about "Blondie 4 (O) Ever". Also thanks for working with SoundCloud to be able to listen to both of these CDs now. Growing up Blondie was my favorite band, so I'm loving both the new and old songs.

themusicaddict's 11 Most Intriguing CDs Arriving In The Next Few Weeks (Part 1) (Updated June 14th, 2014)

Hello,

In my opinion these are the 11 most intriguing CDs being released in the next few weeks. Take this with a grain of salt from a 46 year old man who feels the 80s had the best music ever and will never be topped. That will explain a few choices on this list. It will also explain why Coldplay, Sarah McLachlan and a few other big name musicians aren't on this list.

Going from least to most intriguing:

11) Natalie Merchant's Self-Titled CD set to be released on May 6th, 2014. The former front woman of the the 10,000 Maniacs releases her latest sold CD. The 10,000 Maniacs were most known for "Like The Weather" and "What's The Matter Here".  Chances of breakout success: 1%

"Ladybird" (She still has that amazing voice, although it has aged):

10) "Meteorites"- Echo and the Bunnymen is set to be released June 3rd, 2014. Another band who peaked in the 80s, probably one of the most overlooked new wave bands. However they recorded some of the 80's best songs. "The Cutter", "The Killing Moon" and from the "Pretty In Pink" soundtrack the excellent "Bring On The Dancing Horses". I don't anticipate either one of the above CDs to be a big hit. Chances of breakout success: 1%

"Burn It Down" (This song seems to be in the same vein as their above mentioned songs):

9) "Stockholm"- Chrissie Hynde is scheduled to be released June 10th, 2014. Hynde was the fight and spirit behind the rock band the Pretenders, a band that weren't pretenders at all. The Pretenders hit big with "Brass in Pocket", "Middle of the Road", "I'll Stand By You" and the upbeat "Don't Get Me Wrong". Chances of breakout success: 10%

"Dark Sunglasses" (Out of all the new songs I've added the video for, this is probably my favorite.):

8) "Platinum" by Miranda Lambert is due to be released June 3rd, 2014. The sassy, sexy singer who has had several big hits already will probably do very well with her latest CD. Chances of continued success: 95%. June 14th update: In it's first week on the Billboard charts it debuted at #1.

The first song from that CD is "Automatic" (definitely not to be confused with the Pointer Sisters song). I agree with the message of this song mostly. Things have changed a lot in the last several years and not always for the better:

7) Neil Young's "A Letter Home" is set to be released May 27th, 2014. My ears perk up any time I hear Young will be releasing a new CD. Young has a very quixotic musical sense, he definitely marches to the sound of his own drummer. Although he's written some of the greatest songs ever, he also has released several less than great songs over the years. But I'm always glad to still have artists who are forging their own path. This is a covers CD. Chances of continued success: 10%

Here's one of the songs off this CD "Needle of Death" (seems to be echoing "The Needle and the Damage Done"):

6) "Lazaretto" by Jack White is due to be released on June 10th, 2014. White was a member of the great rock band The White Stripes. I haven't liked his solo work as much as the music he recorded with Meg. I wasn't a big fan of his previous solo CD, "Blunderbuss", I'm hoping this CD will be better. Chances for continued success: 15%

Here's the title track for "Lazaretto":

Another track from the CD "High Bell Stepper":

Aldridge Must Come Up Big Tonight!, Great Phi Slamma Jamma Memories

Hello,

If the Trailblazers are to win their first round series with Portland, LaMarcus Aldridge must have a big game on Friday. And the Trailblazers need to win Game 6, because I don't think they are going to win Game 7. The NBA can hype up Dwight Howard and The Beard much more easily than the rather anonymous team in Portland. The fact that Portland is anonymous is a shame as they are an extremely fun team to watch. Aldridge is great, I'd so much rather have him on my team than the overrated Howard. I also love watching the point guard tandem of Damian Lillard and Mo Williams. I love the grit and determination of Robin Lopez and Wesley Matthews. Matthews has been playing great defense on James Harden. Lastly Nicolas Batum is fun to watch also, I love his slashing, three pointer game.

But if the Trailblazers are to win Friday's game and the series, LaMarcus Aldridge needs to come up big tonight. I don't think it's a coincidence that he has averaged 39.3 points in the three games that the Trailblazers won, but only 15.5 points in the games Houston won. In the two Trailblazer losses, he only shot 33%. Again in Game 5, the game that Aldridge virtually disappeared, I don't think it's coincidental that's the game the Rockets had their easiest win. I just didn't get a sense that the Trailblazers were going to win that game.

In the games Portland won, Aldridge averaged 12 rebounds. In the games they lost Aldridge averaged 9 rebounds. I know it's a small sample size and a small statistical difference. But I see the better stats in the games the Trailblazers won as Aldridge being move involved in the overall game. So it's not so much the specific stats, it's more about how effective Aldridge is in every facet of the game.

It makes me laugh that the Rockets went back to hyping up their Clutch City nickname on Wednesday. Although before they won those two NBA titles the Rockets were massive underachievers before and haven't won anything else since those two titles.

Here's one other big difference between the two teams, Hakeem Olajuwon is at least three times the player that Howard is. I can't think of one phase of the game that Howard is better at than Olajuwon.  Olajuwon is much more athletic, see below. He also has a much bigger heart than Howard. He has more post moves, has a shooting range beyond 3 feet, was able to make his free throws and had that sweet signature move The Dream Shake. Not only that but The Dream is a much better person. When you give yourself a nickname how lame are you, Dwight Howard as Superman? Ha.

Even though I cheer for the Jazz, who Olajuwon incinerated again and again, he was always a great player to watch even as he dominated the Jazz. Not to mention he was a member of one of the most fun teams in college basketball history in Phi Slamma Jamma. Those teams with Clyde Drexler, Benny Anders, Michael Young, Alvin Franklin and don't forget Dave Rose!

Hakeem is such a pleasure to watch, some of these moves are so amazing:

Here's Phi Slamma Jamma in all their glory, playing a very good Louisville team in the NCAA Final Four. Sadly because Houston had a terrible coach, R.I.P. Guy V. Lewis, the Cougars never won the national title that they should have. But what a fun team they were to watch:

And this is the Dwight Howard I've seen way too many times. I see him caring more about his image than wins. A tremendously talented player with a low basketball IQ, poor work ethic and the heart of an ant. Although I do have to admit he's played a lot harder in this series against the Trailblazers. He hasn't done anything this stupid yet:

More Howard lowlights:

I see the 30 point threshold being the key to this game, if Aldridge scores more than 30 points then I predict the Trailblazers win. However if Aldridge is as neutralized as he was in Game 5, this series is coming back to Houston.
