themusicaddict's 11 Most Intriguing CDs Arriving In The Next Few Weeks (Part 1) (Updated June 14th, 2014)

Hello,

In my opinion these are the 11 most intriguing CDs being released in the next few weeks. Take this with a grain of salt from a 46 year old man who feels the 80s had the best music ever and will never be topped. That will explain a few choices on this list. It will also explain why Coldplay, Sarah McLachlan and a few other big name musicians aren't on this list.

Going from least to most intriguing:

11) Natalie Merchant's Self-Titled CD set to be released on May 6th, 2014. The former front woman of the the 10,000 Maniacs releases her latest sold CD. The 10,000 Maniacs were most known for "Like The Weather" and "What's The Matter Here".  Chances of breakout success: 1%

"Ladybird" (She still has that amazing voice, although it has aged):

10) "Meteorites"- Echo and the Bunnymen is set to be released June 3rd, 2014. Another band who peaked in the 80s, probably one of the most overlooked new wave bands. However they recorded some of the 80's best songs. "The Cutter", "The Killing Moon" and from the "Pretty In Pink" soundtrack the excellent "Bring On The Dancing Horses". I don't anticipate either one of the above CDs to be a big hit. Chances of breakout success: 1%

"Burn It Down" (This song seems to be in the same vein as their above mentioned songs):

9) "Stockholm"- Chrissie Hynde is scheduled to be released June 10th, 2014. Hynde was the fight and spirit behind the rock band the Pretenders, a band that weren't pretenders at all. The Pretenders hit big with "Brass in Pocket", "Middle of the Road", "I'll Stand By You" and the upbeat "Don't Get Me Wrong". Chances of breakout success: 10%

"Dark Sunglasses" (Out of all the new songs I've added the video for, this is probably my favorite.):

8) "Platinum" by Miranda Lambert is due to be released June 3rd, 2014. The sassy, sexy singer who has had several big hits already will probably do very well with her latest CD. Chances of continued success: 95%. June 14th update: In it's first week on the Billboard charts it debuted at #1.

The first song from that CD is "Automatic" (definitely not to be confused with the Pointer Sisters song). I agree with the message of this song mostly. Things have changed a lot in the last several years and not always for the better:

7) Neil Young's "A Letter Home" is set to be released May 27th, 2014. My ears perk up any time I hear Young will be releasing a new CD. Young has a very quixotic musical sense, he definitely marches to the sound of his own drummer. Although he's written some of the greatest songs ever, he also has released several less than great songs over the years. But I'm always glad to still have artists who are forging their own path. This is a covers CD. Chances of continued success: 10%

Here's one of the songs off this CD "Needle of Death" (seems to be echoing "The Needle and the Damage Done"):

6) "Lazaretto" by Jack White is due to be released on June 10th, 2014. White was a member of the great rock band The White Stripes. I haven't liked his solo work as much as the music he recorded with Meg. I wasn't a big fan of his previous solo CD, "Blunderbuss", I'm hoping this CD will be better. Chances for continued success: 15%

Here's the title track for "Lazaretto":

Another track from the CD "High Bell Stepper":
