New Music You Should Check Out

Hello again,

Today's blog post is about new music (at least to me) that you need to check out. Also I will give you a few websites where you can listen to or even download some of this music free. Now not all these musicians are as attractive as Miss USA 2008, but they all rock.

First I want to start off with the first band you should go check out right now! (Why are you still sitting there.) The band is The Black Keys, they play sort of a sludgy rock/blues mix. Some of their better songs include "Set You Free", "Thickfreakness" and "10:00 am Automatic". You can also listen to their newest CD, the full stream at pastemagazine.com. pastemagazine also has streams of new music by Arrested Development, Romantica and The New Pornographers. I especially like the song by Romantica entitled "Ixcatan".

Another new band (at least to me) you should check out is a band called the Acid House Kings. When I first heard their name I thought it would be techno music. However it is not techno but I don't really know how I would describe it. However it is very good. Some of their better songs include "Heart Like A Stone", "Sunday Morning" and "Do What You Want To Do". I was able to get four of their songs free from last.fm absolutely free.

Those are the two bands I wanted to tell you most about. However there are some other bands that I don't understand why they are not extremely popular. Those bands would include Flyleaf, Eisley, Silversun Pickups, Paramore, Pipettes and the New Pornographers. All of those bands have achieved a modicum of success. However their success does not live up to how great of bands they are.

There is also one song you should check out. It is a song called "Queen of Pop 2" by a band called The GonnaBees. You can get this song free by going to download.com and type GonnaBees in the search box. download.com also has about 8,000 other free mp3's you may want to check out. It may take some work to find the good stuff but it will be worth it. Also here are some other websites that have free music available: goombah.com, iTunes music store, amazon.com, pastemagazine.com, last.fm. (Also goombah.com has 15 free songs available each Friday, covering all spectrums of music.) One more website that I had high hopes for when I first heard about it, however it is so far a disappointment. The website is lala.com and their premise is that they will play full streams of most CD's. So that would be cool rather than just 30 seconds of each songs like on amazon.com or iTunes music store. However the potential of this website has yet to fulfill its promise. I plan on keeping an eye on it to see if they will begin fulfilling their full promise.

Just a couple of other tidbits. It was confirmed to mtv over the weekend that Green Bay has been performing under the name Foxboro Hot Tubs. In the Foxboro Hot Tubs, the singer sounds a lot like Billie Jo Armstrong, now we know why. Apparantally back in 2003 they also performed under the name of Network. However I am thinking that Green Day should make a comeback as Green Day. I mean I know they are operating under the crushing expectations of "American Idiot", but it is time for some new music. It is time to get back in the studio.

Also tomorrow night is the Top 7 singing on "American Idol", this week is Mariah Carey week. (In case you were wondering Michael Johns was going to be singing "Vision of Love". Thats's according to Entertainment Weekly.) So I think Kristy Lee Cook will pick a good song to sing, as she is the savviest contestant. I think David Cook could struggle this week and I know David Archuleta will struggle this week. He will probably sing "Hero", it is a mid tempo syrupy ballad, usually the type of song he likes to crucify.

Also if you have some new music you would like for me to check out, leave comments. I am also able willing to listen to music, burn a copy and send it to me. Again leave comments and I will monitor those daily.
