USU got screwed

Hello,

I thought the NCAA Tournament Committee did a pretty good job with making their seeds for the tournament. Florida being a #2 seed, while Texas was relegated to a #4 seed was definitely an injustice.

However the most egregious injustice is what happened to the USU Aggies. Although the Aggies finished WAC tournament play with a 30-3 record, won the WAC Tournament and currently have the 15th best RPI in the nation, they still finished with a #12 seed? Also in the national polls last week, they were ranked #17 and #23 and won 9 of their last 10 games.

Let's take worst case scenario: #23 divided by 4, for how many regions there are, the worst seed they should get is a 6. How in the hell did they get a #12 seed? Even if you drop them a couple of seeds for their 120th ranked strength of schedule, they should be no worse than a #8 seed.

After looking at the stats for the #8 seeds, at worst USU should be a #8 seed. Things that the NCAA Selection Committee allegedly look at include a team's RPI, strength of schedule and how they played their last 10 games. Let's compare:

USU: 30-3, RPI: 15, Strength of Schedule: 120, The Aggies won 9 of the last 10 games they played. They also won both the WAC regular season title and the WAC Tournament title. Not only that but the Aggies have to play the hard charging Kansas State Wildcats in the NCAA's first round. The Wildcats feature super stud Jacob Pullen, he probably is one of the Top 5 players in the nation.

George Mason: 26-6, RPI: 24, SOS: 91 The Patriots won 9 of their last 10 games they played. They won the Colonial Athletic regular season title, but didn't win their tournament title. The Patriots were handed a gift with their first round NCAA matchup, they are playing the sputtering Wildcats of Villanova. The Wildcats have lost their last 5 games and looked terrible doing it. I think George Mason is going to win that game and I hope no one calls it an upset.

Michigan: 19-13 RPI: 53 SOS: 16 The Wolverines are 7-3 over their last 10 games. They neither won either the Big 10 Conference title or the Big 10 Tournament. In fact they finished tied for fourth in the Big 10 Conference regular season. Michigan opens up against Tennessee.

Butler: 23-9, RPI: 34, SOS: 75 The Bulldogs are 9-1 over their last 10 games. They won both the Horizon League's regular season title and the conference title. I think Butler benefits from going to the NCAA Tournament Finals last season. They start off the NCAA Tournament against Old Dominion.

UNLV: 24-8, RPI: 25 SOS: 32 The Rebels are 7-3 over their last 10 games. The Rebels didn't come close to winning the MWC regular season or conference titles. I predict UNLV gets past Illinois in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Like the Villanova Wildcats, the Fightin' Illini (hardly fightin, more like lay down and dyin') are only 4-6 over their last 10 games.

So why some of those teams are #8 seeds and USU is a 12th seed doesn't add up. That being said all the Aggies can do is go out and beat Kansas State in the first round. Then they need to beat Wisconsin to get to the Sweet 16. The seed that Utah State received isn't fair, but at least they get a shot. Again thank goodness for there being no stupidity of the BCS in college basketball. Now USU you need to grab this bull by the horns and force your way on to the national stage. Who knows when you will have this good of team again?
