Hello,
Wasn't Friday an amazing day for college basketball? (The NBA: Yawn!) There were all sorts of great games starting with North Carolina coming all the way back to win. Then in the complete opposite direction there was one of the ugliest scores in several years of college basketball. Unranked Penn State beat #13 Wisconsin 36-33. No that's not a misprint. Big 10 basketball, you've got to love it.
Teams are battling for the NCAA Tourney's #1 seed and I'm so irritated by the bias by TPTB towards Duke and select other major colleges. Even if Duke loses to Virgina Tech today, why do I get the feeling that they still will get a #1 seed? Duke is 11-3 over their last 14 games and have lost two of their last 4 games. Duke plays Va. Tech today who they lost to back on February 26th.
Yesterday was a day of upsets as both #4 Notre Dame and #9 Purdue lost. I'm glad this isn't football as someone probably would have figured out a way to give the national title to Notre Dame. Isn't it so refreshing that these games are decided on the court and not in the BCS back offices? The conference tournaments have been so fun, I'm so excited for the first day of NCAA tourney games on Thursday.
When it's discussed who should be #1 seeds, why aren't North Carolina and San Diego State in that conversation? North Carolina admittedly started out slowly, but has really come on at the end of the season. Although they had to make a rousing comeback yesterday and as of now it looks like they will have to make another rousing comeback today. They are down by 12 near the end of the first half as I write this. North Carolina has won 13 of their last 14 games, including a split with Duke. Why aren't they in the #1 seed conversation again?
Also San Diego State is 31-2, why aren't they even mentioned in the #1 seed discussion? They have only lost twice all season, both losses were to BYU. The Cougars, led by sensational senior Jimmer Fredette's 52 points, won earlier in the day. By the way BYU is 30-3, who SDSU will play for the third time today. Yes SDSU is in the MWC, one of the toughest conferences in the nation this season. The Aztecs beat NCAA Tourney bound Gonzaga earlier in the season and they beat UNLV last night on the Rebels home court. Also Steve Fisher has won a national title as a head coach. And Aztecs big man Kawhi Leonard is one of the better unknown players in the nation. There's no reason for him to be unknown either. What does a team have to do to get into the #1 seed discussion?
I only briefly wanted to discuss basketball, the main reason I wrote this blog was about the greed and stupidity of the NFL. The league has revenue of $9 billion dollars and can't figure out a way to share it between owners and players? Really? The union was decertified and several players sued the NFL under anti-trust law. Then the owners locked the players out. Good riddance!
I have two questions. First, why are both sides so damn greedy? Second, why is it when there's anything involved with the NFL, we have to see Jerry Jones? I love the Cowboys but I'm so sick of their publicity whore owner. Good riddance!
All I want to say to the NFL is good riddance. I urge my fellow fans to ignore the whole league as well. I hope there are games missed. I urge the courts to be in no hurry to decide this issue that both sides are too stupid to decide. I urge huge media companies to ignore the NFL as they go through their stupid labor issue. It would crack me up if some of the players had to go out and get real jobs. I love football but can easily live without the NFL. Believe it or not greedy NFLers, but there are literally thousands of other things to do. This would be a good time for people to enjoy the college football game, which is considerably more entertaining than the NFL anyway. The Women's Soccer World Cup is coming up this summer. There will be MLB playoffs, the NBA, college basketball and the NHL all this Fall. I would love to see the owners get desperate and bring back replacement players. Good riddance!
When the greedy NFLers come back, which unfortunately will be sooner than later, let's completely ignore them. Also isn't the NBA headed to labor strife as well? Even more than the NFL, I hope the NBA misses games. The NBA is such a league of hype and David Stern is easily the worst commissioner of the major sports. He's like any other dictator that has been in power too long. He's become fat and stupid off his own complacency. He's an unfailingly smug and arrogant man. I agree with the comments of Stan Van Gundy. David Stern is just another reason to hate the NBA. I can say whatever I want because I'm not one of David Stern's "minions". David Stern does remind me a lot of Gru.
I'm just assuming the NBA has already planned a lockout, in fact the Utah Jazz are the first team to be implementing the lockout. Because that certainly wasn't a professional team that showed up in Minnesota last night. Although they wore Jazz jerseys. How seriously can you take a Jazz team when Gordon Hayward was the Jazz's high scorer? That was a bad draft pick by the Jazz. This is a Jazz team that was without injured Ronnie Price and Paul Milsap. Mehmet Okur also missed due to injury, but isn't he always injured? In a huge upset Andrei Kirilenko actually played. The Jazz are paying him $18 million for this season? Again, no that's not a misprint. I hope they let Andrei Kirilenko go in free agency and buy out Okur. I don't care how good a player is. If they can only play half the time, then what's the point of them being on your team?
This is definitely an under appreciated song of the day. I have no idea why Sufjan Stevens hasn't blown up more. The CD, "Come On Feel The Illinoise", is one of the best CD's of this millennium's first decade. Check out this whole amazing CD. Napster is only $5 a month.
