Dad what did the NBA used to be like? "Walking Dead" Spoiler Alerts

Hello,

R.I.P. Smokin' Joe Frazier, he died at the all too early age of 67. It makes me realize that it's not too long until Muhammad Ali passes away. The two will be linked together for a long time to come.

The only thing that I want to say about the Jerry Sandusky debacle is to always be true to your values. Because Sandusky was a key member of the Penn State football team it seems he was given a pass. There was an alleged incident reported to Coach Joe Paterno in 2002. He passed it on to his bosses, where the ball seemed to be dropped. Someone should have been more vigilant in following through. Who knows how many more kids were hurt because of that lack of vigilance?

This lack of good judgment and common sense will probably end Joe Paterno's reign at Penn State. A reign that should have ended about 10 years ago probably. The 2002 incident seems to show a sign of how out of touch he was with what was going on in his own program.

Just an update, there was suppose to be a press conference today. However it was cancelled, it seems Paterno might be out the door soon. Whoever was tainted by this assistant coach needs to be removed from the school immediately. At least Penn State should give full ride scholarships to all the victims of this sick creep.

With tomorrow being the NBA's so-called ultimatum day, I possibly see events happening that could significantly change the NBA forever. David Stern is calling this an ultimatum, of course he has backed out of statements he has said previously. His tired leadership is really hurting the NBA in this time of greed. However I think that tomorrow's ultimatum is a crucial day in the history of the NBA. I expect the NBA players not to accept the NBA's offer and for this lockout to extend at least another couple of months. It's only a matter of time until the players cave in. Where are they going to find a better gig? They aren't and the owners know that. That's why they can are playing hard ball.

The players should just accept this deal right now while they still have some pride. The NBAPA, Billy Hunter and Derek Fisher have all been worked by the man. They've been out thought, out hustled and humiliated by the owners. Once common sense takes over for greed, will those relationships be able to be restored? If so, how long will it take? Neither side has come out looking good from this whole debacle. Both sides need new leadership fast. Will it take new leadership before this thing can be resolved?

As time goes on I become more sad about this lockout, they are fighting over roughly $100 million dollars. I know that sounds like big time money to you and I. However this is a league that brings in $4 billion dollars a year. Meanwhile the interest in the NBA wanes. Many players are playing overseas now. Still most of the NBA as we know it can be salvaged, but less and less moving forward.

I'm still all for the lockout though. I think this will be a chance for both sides to get some much needed humility. I expect after a lengthy lockout the NBA could come back better. However if the lockout is too long, that would drastically change the NBA. When will a rival league spring up? How much damage will all this greed cost in terms of fan interest? People are finding other things to do with their money and time. What's the percentage of those that will never come back? Will all these things make the league better or worse? The NBA already has priced out many fans who would like to go to games.

Once the dust settles, what will the rising generation think? They'll hear stories from their parents and grandparents. That might spark interest in some kids, maybe even enough to actually watch it. But how much will be lost? However someday I won't be surprised to hear a kid say, "Dad what did the NBA used to be like?"

I'm glad there hasn't been a fan groundswell begging the two sides to reach a resolution. I think the lack of fan interest should serve as a warning sign to both greedy sides of this debacle.

It's hilarious to me that Philadelphia losing to Chicago at home. What is it about Pennsylvania teams that hold on to their coaches too long? I laughed when I saw the final score. That's fantastic. That means the so-called dream team is now 3-5 and in last place in the NFC Least. Shouldn't be Dream Team be a name you earn, not a result of hype? They are the dream team, but it's more of a nightmare. Thank you Philly for signing Michael Vick to a 5 year, $100 million contract. That might be one of the last bad decisions by the current Eagles decision makers.

The Dream Team is now tied for last place in the woeful NFC Least with the injury prone Redskins. There's no doubt that the Giants are the class of the NFC East. They showed that when they went to New England and beat the Patriots. Dallas had a chance to beat the Patriots. Garrett had so little confidence in Tony Romo, and who can blame him, that he had to be conservative in his play calling. Instead of trying to ice the game with a couple of backbreaking passes he had to rely on the Cowboys run game. That gave New England plenty of time to drive down the field and nip the Cowboys at the end of that game.

Here's a quick review of Sunday's episode of "The Walking Dead". It was okay, it's improving slowly. I love how the episode started out with Shane wearing Otis's coveralls. With his shaved head and sprained ankle, which caused a sort of zombie shuffle, he looked like a zombie. That was clever. Was that on purpose? It's small details that make me keep on coming back, even if it was accidental.

The slow pacing is appropriate as everything is slow this season. This is the 4th episode that has featured the boring story line of the missing Sophia. But look look Daryl picked a flower for Sophia's Mom, a character so uninteresting that I don't remember her name. Also for the fourth episode Carl is still recovering, at least he's getting a little more life for his character. But hopefully we have ditched the lame story line of T-dog's paranoia. It was also good to see him do something productive.

Although there's still too much talk and not enough action. While I believe in God very much and appreciate the time to stop and have gratitude for the blessings in our life, the religious conversations on "The Walking Dead" are dull. They are also very simplistic. Hershel loves God and sees his hand in everything. Rick, taking a page from Lt. Dan, hates God and doesn't see his hand in anything.

They found yet another zombie, this one in a well. This was by far the most disgusting zombie that's ever been on this show. I love how these zombies are so durable. Other than an ax to the head, nothing stops them. When they run out of food, shouldn't they start dying off? Glenn gets picked to be the "live bait". Of course they had this intricate rope system set up to safely lower Glenn into the well. And of course it didn't work. Raise your hand if you expected something to break causing Glenn to fall more into the well? Why did they need the intricate rope system anyway? Other than a few people holding the rope on one end as they lowered Glenn slowly into the well, what else did they need? Karma rewarded Glenn later in the episode though.

The whole well incident was so stupid, these stupid story lines drive me crazy. The other story line that drove me crazy was Lori and the pregnancy test. First of all Glenn didn't know what a pregnancy test was? Really? Come on 12 year old kids know what that is now days, in fact there's probably been a few 12 years that have used them out of need. So that was stupid. I love that Lori snuck outside to take the pregnancy test. Why didn't she just take the test in the bathroom, you know that still has working plumbing? (Rolling my eyes.) She would have had to throw it away either way. So why take the test outside where she might be caught.? Also is it Rick or Shane's baby, does anyone care? As usual this story line in the graphic novel was more interesting.

What could have been great if Lori had left the pregnancy test in the house after she took it, that would have caused crazy amounts of speculation about whose pregnancy test it was. That could have led to some genuine drama.

I'm dreading an upcoming story line that's coming up on the show. It's a story line that's in the much better graphic novel. Exactly what or who is in the barn? I won't give anymore away, but it's one of the most disappointing story lines in the graphic novel. Although one good thing about it is, it's the impetus to get Rick and crew back on the road. To get back out where there's more danger and more excitement. Seriously a few of these lamer characters need to become zombie food.

A quick review of the boring "Hell On Wheels". Wow that premiere episode was so slow, it made "The Walking Dead" look exciting. I'll probably watch at least one or more episodes of "Wheels", but the action needs to pick up. It seems AMC continues to see the quality of it's original programming deteriorate.
