themusicaddict's November Book Club Selection, Other Random Thoughts

Hello,

Just some quick thoughts.

themusicaddict's November Book Club selection is at least the first collection of "The Walking Dead". It's titled "Days Gone Bye", with only about 80 pages it should be a quick read. I'm also considering adding Volume 2 as well, "Miles Behind Us". The reason that I want to read the comic books is to analyze the source material for the TV show. Are the comic books bad or have they been corrupted by the producers of the TV show?

Dallas Cowboys please explain your performance on Sunday? Or more crudely: what the hell was that? How many crappy performances is Tony Romo going to have before the Cowboys start preparing for the future? Taking away the 70 yard pass to Laurent Robinson, Romo's stats were terrible. He'd have been 17 of 34, 133 yards, o Touchdowns and 1 interception. Before that long completion Romo's quarterback rating was in the high 20's. (A quarterback rating of about 100 is slightly above average.) Is this really the quarterback that will lead the Cowboys to another Super Bowl title? Hell no! He's a lot like Tim Tebow, only spread out over several more seasons.

I will say this in Romo's defense, that interception wasn't his fault. Romo looked like he threw a very catchable ball to Martellus Bennett. Again Bennet showed how worthless he is. How does he still have a job? Tashard Choice was cut last week. The next one that needs to be cut is Bennett. His time on the Cowboys has been marked by injuries, incompletions, stupid plays and most of all a lack of effort.

If I were ever to start a team, there are two sorts of players and coaches I'd stay far away from. Those would be the oft injured players and those that never can win the big game. The non winners include such people as Tony Romo and Wade Phillips. There's a reason that both only have one playoff win each. Other coaches and players this applies to include Norv Turner, Phillip Rivers, Alex Smith and Rex Grossman. I know that the NFL is all about recycling people and ideas but that Rex Grossman is still in the NFL absolutely boggles my mind. Did it surprise anyone when his Bears got to the Super Bowl that they didn't win? Does it surprise anyone that Tony Romo has never made it to a Super Bowl?

Although Alex Smith is doing enough to win now, I wonder how long that will last. I love the 49ers 6-1 start, but really is Alex Smith going to lead you to a Super Bowl victory? I don't think so. Now I would love to be wrong, but Smith has never shown himself to be a NFL winner. Although he was an amazing quarterback at the real U, the U. of U. After such a great senior season, I'm surprised that he's been so mediocre in the NFL. That shows the dearth of quality NFL quarterbacks that he's still a starter.

C.C. Sabathia agreed to a 5 year, $122 million contract. I realize that number seems so outrageous that you might not believe me. But check it out if you don't. I don't care how great a pitcher Sabbathia is but he's not worth that kind of money. Wouldn't it be better to go out and get two or three players for that kind of money? What happens if he gets injured? With how heavy he is, that's a legitimate concern. And unlike the NFL, all that money is guaranteed. He's a winner and been mostly injury free though.

I'm glad Tim Tebow has finally got the chance to start and show that he's not an NFL quarterback. For being allegedly so mobile, he sure gets sacked and pressured a lot. When Tony Romo is considered a Top Ten quarterback, that shows you how hard it is to find a good quarterback in the NFL.

NBA: Welcome to the first day of the NBA season!!!! Obviously I'm kidding. The NBA lockout idiocy has entered it's 124th day. There are no more plans for negotiations between the two sides. There are rumors of a rift in the NBA players side. There also seems to be a rift among the NBA owners. Again David Stern has got too old and hung on too long. He's proven himself to be a man of inaction. He'd fit in perfectly right now in "The Walking Dead" universe. After sticking to very few of his threats, how much can we rely on him? David it's been two weeks past the time when you said all games through Christmas would be cancelled if there wasn't a new CBA deal reached. Does the NBA need to get rid of him before there will be a deal made? How many more things that he says will he not stand beside?

However I love that he/the NBA still knows how to fine it's owners. Miami Heat owner Micky Arison was fined $500,000, yes one-half of $1,000,000. I know you are wondering what awful or ugly thing did he tweet? He responded angrily on his Twitter account to a fan's comment. Did he threaten the life of anyone? Did he call David Stern a name? Did he mock a very serious situation? No to all the above questions. Then what did he do? Thanks to espn.com, here's the answer:

"The most serious one (tweet) came when Arison responded to a fan who wrote: "How's it feel to be apart of ruining the best game in the world? NBA owners/players don't give a damn about fans&and guess what? Fans provide all the money you're fighting over&you greedy (expletive) pigs. Arison replied: "You are barking at the wrong owner."

$500,000 for telling a fan he's "barking at the wrong owner"? That's ridiculous. Obviously the NBA is trying to hide it's own ineptness for the labor situation going on now. The NBA needs some good pub now. They should use that $500,000 to go to a charity. How many families can that provide a better Christmas for?

I continue to live quite well without the NBA. Please stay out for the rest of the season.
