Is Justin Timberlake The Coolest Man On Earth?, MLB Baseball Notes

Hello,

While I'm not a big fan of Justin Timberlake's music I think he has a lot going for him. He's a great actor and has played very cool roles in both "In Time" and "The Social Network". However now he has done something even cooler. Here's a review about Justin Timberlake going to the recent Marine Ball celebrating the 233rd birthday of the Marine Corps.

Here's Justin Timberlake's blog entry about said Marine Ball:

This is very cool and I love that a big time celebrity gave up his time to go to the Marine Ball with Cpl. Kelsey De Santis. Because when all is said and done, these people that fight for our country are the true heroes. Without their immense sacrifices the life we wouldn't have the life that we have now. This Marine Ball sounded like it was a win for everyone involved.

With the idiocy of what's going on in the NBA, there comes refreshing news about MLB negotiating a new CBA. As always I'd like to thank espn.com for the following information. MLB negotiators have reached a "handshake agreement" on all major issues in a new 5 year CBA. While it's not finalized yet, there's expected to be a formal announcement on Tuesday. When this deal expires in 2016 that will mark 20 years of labor peace for MLB. NBA stands at 0 years and not counting.

I love this for so many reasons. Both sides have been negotiating this for several months. Did you know it was going on? Either did I and am glad I didn't. Negotiations should be in private, once they become public there's a lot more attention and negative influence on them.

Another reason I like this is while there's lawyers going over the details to make sure the new CBA is legal, they don't seem to have played a major role in these negotiations. In fact, there are probably lawyers trying to find a way to sue the MLB because they didn't get a big enough cut.

In the NBA it seems the player's agents and the lawyers have been the most important people in these negotiations. Talk about the fox guarding the henhouse. I find that very funny as I would never spend any of my hard earned money to watch agents and lawyers play basketball. Someone please explain to me how these two greedy groups of people have taken over the proceedings. I'm sure it has nothing to do with the uninspired leadership of Billy Hunter, Derek Fisher and David Stern. Funny I thought that the Three Stooges had died.

This is the time that someone with a lot of money needs to start creating a professional basketball league to take place of the NBA. Professional basketball is great, the NBA is less than great. Although if a new league is unveiled the leadership needs to be different than the NBA's current leadership. That same leadership would quickly corrupt any new league.

Also it was awesome to see Clayton Kershaw awarded the NL Cy Young Award. I was also glad that the Dodgers locked up Matt Kemp to a 8 year- $160 million contract. Now it's time for the Dodgers to get working to do the same for Clayton Kershaw. As the Dodgers finally move to a new ownership group, Kershaw and Kemp are a great foundation to restore the Dodgers to much deserved glory.

I also loved ISU's victory over Oklahoma State last night. I love any game that throws a wrench into the BCS's stupidity. I would love to see a couple more upsets today.

Okay now here are some great songs:

This song goes out to all couples in the throes of divorce. It may end up being the best thing for you. But shouldn't you put everything you have into saving the marriage? I love this Travis Tritt song:

This is one of the saxiest songs of all-time, Bob Seger's "Main Street". Who knew that a song about a girl working in a strip club could be sweet?:

The Guns N' Roses songs of the day:

I love how funky the start of this version of the song is. As this is Guns N' Roses, both songs contain vulgarity. This is "Rocket Queen":

"Pretty Tied Up", listen for Axl's favorite kind of salad dressing in this song.

I heard this song exercising this morning, definitely one of the Top 500 songs ever.

Finally an all-time great song from the 70s from the great Jim Croce. This song is even more poignant with him dying relatively young. Thanks Jim for all the great songs.
