Hello,
First of all I want to think Hannah Storm for lighting up the TV screen every time she's on Sports Center. She's a very attractive woman.
I also love to watch Dwayne Wade and the rest of the Heat play. Wade is such a tremendous athlete and he does a little bit of everything. Last night Wade made several drives to the basket, scoring and getting to the foul line. As us old timers call it 3 points the old fashioned way, and as younger people call it the hoop and the harm. On one play where he was driving to the basket, he got his arm hacked and he still made a thunderous dunk. On a couple of crucial defensive plays he made big blocks. On one, Rajon Rondo stole the ball and it looked like he was driving for a easy layup. However Wade running step for step with Rondo timed his jump perfectly and blocked the shot. That play was a tremendous momentum shift in the Heat's favor. Later in the game Wade got a block that he blocked with his finger tips. Several tremendous plays by one of this generation's greatest players.
Also I said if the Heat won Game 2 easily this series was over. Well since the Celtics had a 15 point lead at one time and the game went into overtime, obviously it was anything but a easy victory. One or two more plays or calls go Boston's way and this series is tied at 1. This is the Celtics last hurrah and the difference between the Heat and the Celtics isn't as great as I thought. This series could go seven games and it will be quite a battle.
However I'd be remiss if I didn't give thumbs up to Rajon Rondo, he had an amazing game last night. The torch is clearly being passed to Rondo in Boston. Obviously the big three (the really old three?) won't all be coming back next season. And while I'm not a fan of the allegedly very petulant Rondo, he had an amazing game. He scored 44 points on 16 of 24 shooting. As someone cheering for the Heat, I got sick of him knocking down that elbow jumper repeatedly. He also had 8 rebounds, 10 assists and 3 steals. He also scored all 12 Celtics points in the overtime. There's no doubt he's a clutch player.
Also the Dodgers have all of a sudden lost 3 games in a row and to a very mediocre team. The Brewers (22-28, 10.9% Playoffs) have won 3 of their first 4 games in this series that the Dodgers are hosting. I'm hoping that the Dodgers can salvage at least one victory in tonight's game. However what is more concerning is that Matt Kemp reaggravated his hamstring injury. He was suppose to get a MRI today and he's probably going back on the disabled list. He just got off the disabled list May 29th, he injured himself in only his second game back.
Today's music selections come from my iTunes or Rewind 100.7. This first set of songs come from my iTunes.
A great, great song by Depeche Mode, "A Pain That I'm Used To":
The great Ronnie James Dio's "We Rock".
U2 and B.B. King's "When Love Comes To Town":
Steely Dan's "Hey 19"
I posted a few songs from the latest Rascal Flatts CD a couple of days ago. This morning on my iPod I heard this Rascal Flatts classic. This song took on a bit more poignancy as I just had my 2 year anniversary of my divorce. Both a great song and a great video. Rascal Flatts have a lot of amazing songs about heartache and breaking up.
"These Days":
Songs from Rewind 100.7:
Rewind 100.7 actually played "Sussudio", that made me think of the much better Phil Collins song "Easy Lover":
Yesterday I wrote about how I wished Rewind would play Prince, on the way home they played a funkified version of "Let's Go Crazy": (This is the only video available for this song)
Information Society's "What's On Your Mind (Pure Energy)": (with a cameo by Leonard Nimoy)
Sister Sledge's "We Are Family":
I love Lou Bega's "Mambo Number 5":

"Mad Men" Bounces Back, Rewind 100.7 Playlist Suggestions, Go Red Sox and Heat
Hello,
I finally got around to seeing the latest episode of "Mad Men" last night. (I love the DVR!) This latest episode, "The Other Woman", is a return to form. Just some quick thoughts.
1) Peggy Olsen may be leaving SCDP, but she's not going to leave the show? Right? Peggy telling Don that she was quitting SCDP was one of the most poignant moments in this show's proud history. I wish that Don hadn't ruined the moment with his sarcasm and selfishness. What should have been even a sweeter moment was lost in his bitterness. Although great moments ruined by a bad moments seemed to be the theme of this episode. There was another uneasy mix of good and bad moments at the end of the episode. While the rest of SCDP was celebrating signing Jaguar, their first car!, Peggy left SCDP for perhaps the last time.
That final scene was triumphant then bittersweet before closing out again as a triumphant moment. I understood what she was going through as she left the office. She was looking at the place where she made all those good memories one more time. I worked at a place for many years and have some of my fondest memories there. It was a very bittersweet moment when I walked out of there. However as she got on to the elevator and the Kinks started play Peggy realized what a bright future she had elsewhere.
2) The Pete Campbell slime train keeps on rolling on. I'm disappointed that Herb brought up the idea of sleeping with Joan. (If Herb looked familiar to you, it's because he played a cop on "Blue Bloods" a cop cooking the books to increase his chances of getting a promotion.) I'm disappointed, but not surprised, that Campbell pandered to the client, instead of putting an immediate stop to it. But then he brings up the repellent idea to Joan for her to think about it? I'm glad that Don was against the idea, but I'm disappointed that he didn't do more to prevent it. It was nice that he went to her apartment, but we realized later it was too late by this point. I'm also disappointed that Roger Sterling wasn't more forceful in stopping Joan's prostitution. Although she received a devil's ransom I'm disappointed that Joan actually accepted the offer and did the deed. She now owns 5% of the company and is a voting partner. Does she think that's worthwhile for selling her soul? If and when will SCDPH reflect their new name?
We know that Pete will do anything for the job, but this was even slimy by his standards. Now that Pete has slept with at least 3 other women outside the bonds of matrimony, he thinks everyone else might do the same thing for the right price. I also hate how this slime ball thinks he's in charge at SCDP. He really is a small, morally decrepit man. How much longer will Trudy put up with him? And why is she putting up with him now?
And how much longer will Megan and Don stay together? Did anyone really think this marriage would last. Don represents a more old fashioned time, while Megan represents the newness of 1967. This is reflected in their opinions of the Beatles "Tomorrow Never Knows".
I'm so excited this movie is finally going to be released, love me some "Les Mis":
Quick sports notes: the Red Sox have finally broken through to an above .500 record. Go Red Sox! The Red Sox are now 25-24, with a 39.8% chance of making the playoffs. They play in the very tough AL East and still remain in last place. The AL East standings are compressed. Even though Boston is in last place, they only trail co first place Tampa Bay and Baltimore by 3.5 games. (In comparison the Dodgers lead the NL West's second place Giants by 5.5 games.) Boston has won 7 of 10 games and 2 in a row. Although things will be tougher if Dustin Pedroia is really going to be out for a few weeks. They've really been snake bitten by the injury bug the last couple of seasons.
From a Boston team I'm cheering for to a Boston team I'm cheering against, the Celtics. I expect the Heat to take a 2-0 lead on the Celtics tonight. At this point it looks like we are barreling towards a NBA Finals between San Antonio and Miami. Before we get there though, what is Boston going to do tonight in regards to their promise of being more physical? How will Miami respond? We've seen how the Heat responded to Indiana's increased physical play. It only inspired the Heat to dominate and close out that series. If Miami's wins as relatively easily as they did Monday night, this series could be a sweep.
Although the Spurs aren't exciting, they certainly know how to win. Congratulations to them winning 20 consecutive games, including going 10-0 in the playoffs. The fact that they aren't overhyped like the Knicks, Lakers or Magic keeps them low profile enough that their constant winning doesn't annoy as much. I think I heard more about the Lakers in their losing than San Antonio in winning. The Spurs probably have been the consistently best team over the last several years. But due to their low profile, you wouldn't know it. I believe the Spurs like to have their profile so low.
All songs below are songs either I heard on Rewind 100.7 or I remembered because of a song I heard on Rewind 100.7. Listening more to Rewind 100.7 I'm liking their music playlist for the most part. Although all their songs have been by white artists, other than this song.
Seriously Prince needs to be represented as well, to me this is the ultimate radio song of the 80s. I was going to put the video for Prince's "When Doves Cry". However Prince has it locked down so tight that even videos with just the music and lyrics aren't even available. Prince it's time to loosen the strings and allow the real versions of your songs to be played on youtube. Believe me the other artists attempting to perform your classic songs just doesn't do your music justice.
I forgot how great this Madonna song is, "Cherish":
Rewind 100.7 actually played the short version of this song. However I prefer the long version of Falco's "Rock Me Amadeus":
Sheryl Crow's "Soak Up The Sun":
Rewind 100.7 may I humbly suggest adding this song to your playlist. I know it's way outside of the mainstream. However it's a great song and fits in with all the other songs you play. The band is The Producers and the song is "I Love Lucy". I probably only know of this band because their videos were played on MTV back in the day. (Ahh the good old days when I actually watched and cared about MTV.)
or you could play another great Producers song "What's He Got":
And I have no idea why this song doesn't get any more attention as one of the all-time great 80's songs. I can listen to it over and over again. Boom Crash Opera's "Onion Skin":
This is also a great 80s song that is sadly under appreciated, the Sunday's "Here's Where The Story Ends":
How about this one, 'Til Tuesday's "Voices Carry":
One more humble suggestion Rewind 100.7. How about the Nena classic "99 Luftbaloons":

"Mad Men" brilliantly worked this song into that bittersweet closing moment:

Heat-Celtics, Great New Music From Rascal Flatts and Haley Reinhart And Others
Hello,
Not that anyone should be surprised by the result of last night's Heat victory over the Celtics. The Heat are clearly the better team. The dynamic duo of LeBron James and Dwayne Wade is just too much for the old Celtics to handle. And that duo was amazing last night for the Heat. James and Wade combined for 54 points, 16 rebounds and 10 assists. They also did combine for 7 turnovers. I love watching Wade play so much. He's just so amazing with the so many things he can do on the basketball court. From his shooting off one foot bank shot, to a no look rifle whipped pass to Joel Anthony to his slicing up the middle of the Celtics defense. The Celtics like to grab and hold a lot, but they can't do that if they can't catch the Heat.
I expect to see this series end in no more than 5 games, if the Heat getting really motivated they could sweep. I'm not sure what Rajon Rondo means by his comment of "hit the deck", but I don't think he frightens many Heat players. And when the Pacers tried to play more physical, the only thing that did was fire up the Heat even more. After the Pacers caused the Heat to "hit the deck", the Heat retaliated. Not only did they hit back, but they closed out the Pacers with much prejudice.
That being said I just don't know if someone is going to be able to knock off the Spurs this season. They just seem like they are on a mission to steamroll to a NBA title. However that's not something I want to see. The last major championship I was interested in was last season's NBA Finals. Then I had to watch the boring Mavericks win the whole thing. Yawn. I also didn't care about the World Series or Super Bowl because I wasn't interested in either team.
One of the CD's I bought via legalsounds.com was the new Rascal Flatts CD "Changed". I like many of that bands songs and the CD was only 99c, so I bought it. They've had many classic songs in their careers and it doesn't seem they'll be running out of them anytime soon. I'm glad I bought "Changed" as it is very, very good. I highly recommend any fan of good music to buy "Changed". Here's a selection of songs from that amazing CD.
This video features one of the hottest looking banjo players ever. "Banjo" is one of the best songs on "Changed":
"Hot In Here":
"Hurry Baby":
Haley Reinhart has released her first CD "Listen Up". It's a decent CD, but the thing I love most about it is her amazing voice. I'm still not sure how the sexy, big voiced Reinhart lost out to the dreary Scotty McCreery for last season's "AI" crown. I actually liked Lauren Alaina, but I don't think she was better than Reinhart. Of course "American Idol" had an agenda. They wanted who they thought the singer with the most commercial appeal would be to win the competition. Why they picked McCreery for that I have no idea. It would have been ridiculous if Haley hadn't beat out the Adam Lambert wanna be James Durbin.
And do you remember when "AI" was hyping all the "talent" last season? Then the winner is McCreery, fourth place went to James Durbin and then 5th place went to the incredibly lame Jacob Lusk. Besides the "AI" tour and having McCreery shoved down our throat, have you heard much from the other two?
The below song "Free" really highlights how amazing her voice is. I'd love to hear the story what prompted this song to be written. Her voice sounds similar to both the amazing Adele and Amy Winehouse, which should only be interpreted as a compliment.
"Now That You're Here" (Live) What an amazing voice? Can she breathe in those pants though? Here's Haley again:
"Wasted Tears":
Currently I'm reading the Arthur C. Clarke book "2001: A Space Odyssey". Although I think the movie of the same name is beyond belief weird, I still felt parts of it was intriguing. I didn't even watch the entire movie, it's just too slow moving. It seriously needs a good bit of editing. The book and the movie are very similar from what I've read and seen so far. I'm just wondering do all the various stories come together in a cohesive whole at the end? If I remember right the end of the movie made no sense to me the first time I watched it. In both there's the story of Moon-Watcher, the story of Dr. Heywood Floyd and then the story of Hal the computer. What does the black slab have to do with all of them? What do all the individual stories have to do with each other? Why did Clarke write this as a novel, instead of a series of short stories. It does come off as a short story collection.
Just a couple of miscellaneous thoughts. I was so excited for the fifth season of "Mad Men" to start this season. I rather enjoyed the first two episodes as well, but since then this show has deteriorated. It's got to the point where it's not my number one priority to watch on Sunday nights. On Sunday I watched the first "Underworld" movie, Kate Beckinsdale looks amazing in her skin tight leather outfit. Then last night I chose to watch the first game of the Eastern Conference Finals. Although "Mad Men" isn't as good as it use to be, I plan on watching it tonight. I also still have the two final episodes of the very solid, though now cancelled, "Awake" to watch.
Finally I love how much of a fun ride that the Dodgers are on. They are rolling, currently they have the best record in MLB. They are 32-16, having won two-thirds of their games. They also have a 88.7% chance of making the playoffs. Matt Kemp and Magic Johnson are the latest cover of Sports Illustrated. Also the Dodgers did fairly well without Matt Kemp, they went 9-5 in the games he was out with an injury. However I'm glad he's eligible to come off the DL today. Currently ESPN has the Dodgers ranked as the #1 team in their MLB rankings. That's due to their great record and how many games they lead the second place Giants by. The Dodgers are just completely dominating the mediocre NL West. They lead second place San Francisco by 6.5 games and third place Arizona by 10.5 games. Things are good in Dodgerland now!
I was with my kids this last weekend. After awhile I got sick of listening to my daughter's current pop music. I started flipping around the station and stumbled across Rewind 100.7. As you can tell by the radio station's name these are songs that are a bit older. They are mostly songs from the 80's and 90's. So the below songs are a selection of songs that I've heard recently on that radio station or other great songs I've heard lately.
I'll start off with the Kinks "Paronoia":
I love this song, but I'm a bit disturbed that I've already heard this song twice in the limited time I have listened to Rewind 100.7. There are so many great songs from the 80's and 90's that repeats shouldn't be very frequent. That's especially if they go beyond many of those songs that honestly have been over played. For every time they play "Sledgehammer", they should play a "White Lines". That will help keep their mix much more fresh.
This is Tommy Tutone's "867-5309/ Jenny":
I love this song, I wonder if this is the kind of song they'll play on Rewind 100.7? I've only listened to that station for only a hour or two.
The Darkness "I Believe In A Thing Called Love":
One more song from the best decade for music, the 80's, this is The Power Station:
Today's final song is from the amazing band Paramore, this is "Ignorance":

I love this song, I wonder if this is the kind of song they'll play on Rewind 100.7? I've only listened to that station for only a hour or two.
The Darkness "I Believe In A Thing Called Love":
One more song from the best decade for music, the 80's, this is The Power Station:
Today's final song is from the amazing band Paramore, this is "Ignorance":

Happy Memorial Day!, Legalsounds.com Update
Hello,
I would be remiss if I didn't wish everyone a Happy Memorial Day. That goes especially to all those Americans who have fought for and died for this great country. I'm also grateful for those Americans who have come home alive and still have scars. I'm also so very grateful for their family members and for all their sacrifices.
And I know this is so cliche, but this song comes to mind when I think of this day or the military. It's so true.
Celebrating the greatness of American's brave military, I'm going to funk it up a bit with Mr. James Brown. (I have to admit this song makes me think of an old Eddie Murphy stand up routine.)
It's been a week since I've discovered the awesomeness of legal sounds.com. They sell individual songs for .9c and many full albums are under $1.00. Not only that but they are also currently running a special where all songs are 20% off their already low price. I know what you're thinking: "That sounds great, but what's the catch?" Well the closest thing to a catch I've experienced so far is I was charged 24c for an "international transaction fee". I'm not sure what that is. But only paying $30.24 for all the amazing songs I've added to my computer has been such a great deal. Only two things that would even count as being a catch so far is it's much harder to get a song on my computer than iTunes. Although adding music via legalsounds.com isn't very hard either, just a couple more steps. In what now seems to be an irrational fear, I thought I might wake up one morning and my hard drive was going to be wiped clean. But that hasn't happened.
You may want to check this out soon though, I've noticed that some songs have skyrocketed to 19c each.
What I've got out of it is a lot of great songs so far. I like to buy classic albums from a band's career. For instance I've bought older and under appreciated CDs from bands as diverse the Scorpions and Blondie. I've even let my oldest song buy some music and then he burns it on a blank CD.
I have to admit I'm not real excited by the NBA's Western Conference Finals. I neither like nor hate the Spurs or Thunder enough to cheer for either. My preference would be for the Thunder to advance to the NBA Finals as the Spurs have won so many titles recently. I predict this series will go 7 games and either team could win.
The Eastern Conference Finals starts tonight and I predict the Heat will win this series easily. I predict the Heat will win the series in 5 games. The old Celtics have just been worn down too much and that they don't have what it takes to compete with the Heat. Also while Boston was playing a tough Game 7 Saturday night, the Heat were resting. That gave many of their players a much needed chance to rest and recover from a long season.

Go Heat!, 20 Minutes of Monkeys?
Hello,
Thinking about tonight's Game 6 between the Indiana Pacers and the Miami Heat, for some reason Michael Buffer came to mind:
It's going to be a tense and charged atmosphere at tonight's game. Indiana's home court, whose name I won't mention as it's too lame, will be rocking. There will be 18,000 fans ready to rock. Things will be even more tense with the Pacers fighting for their playoff lives. The Heat will be looking to closeout the Pacers and prepare to beat the Boston Celtics. The Heat came up big in Games 4 and Game 5. But it's said that closeout games are the hardest to win. With how chippy and physical this series has become, it might even be harder for than the typical closeout game. The Heat need to come out and punch the Pacers in the mouth (not literally) and take away their desire to win. If they can do that the Heat should win tonight's game. I do expect a tight and close game throughout, but it wouldn't surprise me if the Heat pull away a bit at the end.
I look forward to a hard fought and intense game. I'm glad I'm not a ref tonight. They will probably be over reactive to keep things in control.
Speaking of the Celtics, how would of the refs called a Lakers-Celtics NBA Final? Both teams get a bunch of calls, would the refs know what to do? By the way thank you Boston and Philadelphia for having a 7 game series to add a little more excitement to the playoffs. It's too bad that whoever wins this series is irrelevant as the Heat will roll though them like a steamroller.
Anyway today marks the two year anniversary of my divorce being finalized. I've had a lot of mixed emotions about this anniversary. I was pretty excited at my first anniversary, I was glad to get that first sometimes dark year behind me. But today there has been a bit of mourning, even though I know that we shouldn't be married. I know it's hard to explain. But on this anniversary day the below song explains how I feel better than I can.
However that being said there's no reason to linger in the past. Looking forward this is my song:
Okay so I tried again to watch "2001: A Space Odyssey" last night. Can I just say it still doesn't make any sense to me. This movie also could have used a lot of editing. Do we really need the 20 minutes of scenes at the start of the movie from The Dawn of Man? Not to mention those have to be the worst monkey costumes ever. If they were trying for monkey costumes that looked like there was a human inside, they got it. I was so bored that I stopped watching the movie about 2/3rds of the way through. However this movie does have some amazing music like the below:
Here's some of the 20 minutes of monkeys in "2001: A Space Odyssey":
How about some Wagner, "Ride of The Valkyries". This music was used very effectively in "Apocalypse Now":
Here are some great songs. I'll probably get my man card taken away for liking this song. However this is really a great and upbeat song. The band is We Are The In Crowd, the song is "Kiss Me Again":
From the former Go Go:
In one of the Facebook groups that I'm in, someone asked for silly songs. Perhaps not so strangely this song came to mind:
I really, really love this song:

Roger Waters Very Cool Performance of "The Wall", "American Idol", Jordin Sparks, The Dodgers are rolling
Hello,
Just a quick update on my blog yesterday about will this be the year of way too many amazing singers dying, I saw this morning on-line that George Jones is in the hospital. Neither Jones, 80 years old, Merle Haggard, 75 years old or Willie Nelson, 79 years old, are getting any younger.
This is easily my favorite George Jones song:
This is my favorite Merle Haggard song, but it was a bit harder to pick:
My favorite Willie Nelson song, it's one of the most amazing convergences of singer/song ever. This is the live version of "Always On My Mind".
This is the version with the background singer, which gives it just that extra bit of feeling:
Writing my blog yesterday I stumbled across the full version of Roger Waters performing "The Wall".
I've watched/listened to the above Roger Waters performance three times already. It's an amazing live performance of "The Wall". Roger Waters is still sounding good in this performance that was filmed only two years ago. My favorite parts are 1) When he sings a duet with himself and 2) The intro into "Run Like Hell", where Waters plays the fascist dictator, and then the actual "Run Like Hell" are just amazing. Starting at about 1:32 is where this concert takes off. See below:
Is Jordin Sparks the most unheralded "American Idol" winner ever? If she is, that's a complete shame. She was amazing her season of "American Idol", remember she won over incredible singer Melinda Doolittle. However Sparks truly showed her chops the other night when she sang "I Will Always Love You" at the Billboard 2012 Music Awards. She sang that song in their tribute to the amazing Whitney Houston. Sparks is looking amazing and very grown up. She also sounds amazing hitting that big final note just like Whitney did. Sparks I would say and also spine tingling.
And because I love Melinda so much, here's an awesome performance from her:
I love that the circle has now come complete for Kelly Clarkson. She was discovered because she won Season One of "American Idol". Now she'll be appearing on a reality TV show of her own. She'll be joining John Legend (sorry Lionel Richie), Jennifer Nettles and Robin Thicke (huh?) on the new singing competition show "Duets". I also saw Kelly on that same Billboard Music Awards. She had been battling her weight for years, but she looked absolutely svelte and gorgeous Sunday night.
Has "American Idol" been a success? Yes, very much so. Have had as many singers become big stars as one would expect? I would say "no" and that it's not even close. Name the superstars from "American Idol": Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood is all. Also the show hasn't produced a major star since 2005. Not exactly a hit maker is it? I would say the biggest star since 2005 would either be Daughtry, the lame Adam Lambert or the gorgeous Katharine McPhee. This week the 12th season's winner will be announced. I'm burned out by the lame judges and haven't watched this season of the show. I wonder how many "American Idols" can you name? I've already given you two and here's a picture of one of the superstars:

I've already given you two and here's a picture of one of the superstars:
Now that we have two, how many more can you name? No, Adam Lambert didn't win. But I do wonder why they are still trying to make him a star? No, David Archuletta didn't win either, thankfully he's on a LDS mission now.
Although I watched last season it took me a few minutes to remember who won, Scotty McDreery. He extended the reign of boring male singers to 3 years. He followed Lee DeWyze, who I'm wondering if he's back selling paint at the paint store? It's obvious his career will never go anywhere. Then Kris Allen has been doing okay, but he won't be a big star either.
Now that's six winners of "American Idol", how many of the other four can you name? Here's the other "winners" of "American Idol": Fantasia Barrino, Ruben Studdard, Taylor Hicks and one of my favorites, David Cook. I'm still so glad he won that year, knocking out Archuleta.
So how are you doing so far? How many of those did you guess? Now do you want a real challenge? How many of the second place finishers can you name? The second place finishers have mostly gone away. I'll give you some hints. One of them is on one of my favorite new shows from this season. One of the other second place finishers never seemed to fit on this mostly pop show, but she was easily the most talented of her season. Two other second place finishers I already mentioned above. Another second place finisher is probably more famous for his sexual orientation than his singing. I believe he also appeared on the ironically titled "Celebrity Apprentice". If you shake your head a bit, you might be able to loosen the name of who finished second place last year. How many of the 4 other second place finishers can you name?
Here's the wikipedia link including at least the Top 10 finishers from all 11 previous seasons and the contestants of this season:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_American_Idol_finalists
Let's go back to another singer from "American Idol". Carly Smithson is someone that I can't believe never made it, she has an amazing voice:
Sports notes. I'm so glad that the Thunder knocked off the Lakers to advance to the Western Conference Finals. The Thunder-Spurs matchup should be a hell of a series. That series starts on Sunday. In the Eastern Conference I hope to catch at least the last quarter of tonight's Heat-Pacers game. LeBron James and Dwayne "The Man" Wade put on an amazing show Sunday afternoon. When the Heat are firing on all cylinders, they are a thing of beauty to behold.
Although both the Clippers and Lakers are eliminated there's still at least one good team playing in LA. My Dodgers have been so much fun to watch this year. They've been playing so well. I heard someone speculate the other day that the reason the Dodgers are playing so much better might be because their ownership situation is cleared up. I can see that making a difference, but can it really be making that much of a difference? Maybe so.
I was flipping back and forth to this past Sunday's Sunday Night Baseball. I flipped on just in time to catch Scott Van Slyke hit that pinch hit 3 run home run. That proved to be the winning runs and it was a very cool moment. Although it's only been a quarter of a season, the Dodgers do have that feel of being a team of destiny this year.
Let's look at some of their numbers. The Dodgers have the best record in Major League Baseball at 29-13. In fact, the Dodgers are much closer to a .700 winning percentage than anyone is close to them. The Dodgers have won 5 games in a row and 10 out of 12. According to espn.com, LA's chances of making the playoffs are an incredible 92.9%. They lead the NL West's second place team, San Francisco, by 7 games. Oh yeah and Matt Kemp has set out the last few games with that injured hamstring. If healthy he's due back May 29th.
On the other hand a team that I also love, but definitely doesn't have the feel of destiny, is the Boston Red Sox. It's good to see that Kevin Youkilis should be coming back today. That makes me feel better. Although I wonder if it seems like the Red Sox have only been teasing me over their last 11 games. After a horrendous, ump slobbering his gum on Bobby Valentine, injuries galore, Josh Beckett melting down the Red Sox have regained their mojo just a bit. They have won 9 of their last 11 games.
However I just don't feel that this is going to be the year of the Red Sox (36.9 Poff%). Even after they won 9 of 11 games, they are still in last place in the AL East. Boston is tied with the hated Yankees (24.9 Poff%) at 21-21. Both teams are 5.5 games behind first place Baltimore (43.2 Poff% ), which is the team Boston played and beat last night. I'm guessing that the entire AL East is waiting for the Orioles to completely collapse and begin to play like the Orioles of old again.
The Atlanta Braves are also playing fairly well, they are 26-17 and first place in the NL East. Meanwhile the Pirates and Cubs, well never mind they are the Pirates and the Cubs.

legalsounds.com: What Is The Catch? (Updated August 9th, 2013)
Hello,
As of Friday, August 9th, 2013 it seems the website legalsounds.com is no longer. When I try to go to that site, my browser takes me to a place that says network error. Although I'm surprised the site lasted this long, it just seemed to good to be true. There was no legal way their low prices were profitable.
Although this blog is almost a year old, it keeps on getting views. Due to that I decided to update it, I updated it on May 18th, 2013. I may edit some of the things that I've written previously.
Over the weekend I discovered the supposedly inexpensive and legal music website, legalsounds.com. A friend of mine on Facebook asked for some help filling up her iPod. Two of her friends commented on how cool the website legalsounds.com is. Spurred by these people on Facebook I decided to check out legalsounds.com.
I don't know if legalsounds.com is truly legal or not, I honestly have no idea. This blog I'm writing isn't an investigation whether it's legal or not. Based on my interaction with them they appear legit so far. They aren't like Limewire, where it was quite well known they were skirting the law. But still I wonder if legalsounds.com is truly legal? I mean how can it be? In order to make a profit, they have to be buying the music from the record companies for extremely cheaply. Their pricing structure seems to be too good to be true. I learned a long time ago that if something seems too good to be true, it probably is.
Many very popular songs are free and the most one will ever pay for a song is 9c. Do you understand my skepticism now? One can buy complete MP3 CD's for only 99c. And to top it off now they giving you 20% off their already low prices. I thought that 20% off was a temporary thing, but in May, 2013 it's still available. That 99c CD becomes 79c. Do you see what I mean when I wonder what's the catch?
If nothing else you should take advantage of the free songs available at legalsounds.com. I check their website every two or three months and download the new free songs that are available. Many times I don't just have $30 that I can add more credit to my account. If I do from time to time I'll add credit to my account. Also with the $30 one time charge, there's also about a 20c transmission charge.
From wikipedia.org, this is what I found out about legal sounds.com:
I learned the hard way if you own a Mac and want to download music from legalsounds.com then get the downloader called Folx. There's a link for it from the legalsounds.com website.
Update May 18th, 2013: Folx is easy to download and once on your computer it's very easy to use. In fact, I used it this morning to download 16 free songs, including new songs by Rihanna, Fall Out Boy, Justin Timberlake, Tim McGraw and Florida Georgia Line.
So far from what I've seen of legalsounds.com I really like it. I bought many MP3 CDs from them so far. For instance, I bought Roger Waters "In The Flesh" and Whitesnake's "Live: In The Shadow of The Blues". (By the way before you start mocking me for liking Whitesnake's CD, check it out. It's a great and bluesy take on their mid to late 80's music. Although recorded just a few years ago, David Coverdale's voice still sounds very strong.) Those are 2 CDs I've wanted for a long time, but never had bought them as they were too expensive. However I downloaded both CDs for less than $2 each. It's hard to beat that price, especially if it's legal. Although I did sort of wake up today wondering if my hard drive might be wiped out- going back to the to good to be true thought. But no that didn't happen.
Updated May 18th, 2013: It's been almost a year since I first used legalsounds.com and nothing has happened to make me think their site is not completely legal.
Although I continue looking for this website's catch, I still haven't found it yet. How is the audio quality you ask? It's nearly identical to music downloaded from iTunes and amazon.com. Sometimes some of their songs don't have quite the same sound quality as iTunes et. al. However that doesn't happen very often. The next question, do they have all the hottest and current new music? No they don't and if that's the catch, then big deal. They only had 10 of the Top 20 CDs available according to Billboard's Top 100 list from May 26th, 2012. That's only a small complaint. As you can see I've mostly bought older songs. Every older CD or song I've looked for, legal sounds.com has had. These are songs that should be in my music collection, but for some reason aren't.
I originally had planned to write a blog yesterday, planning on writing about all the amazing singers that have died this year already. For instance, Donna Summer, Whitney Houston, MCA of The Beastie Boys, Davy Jones of the Monkees and Levon Helm of The Band. Also dying this year was Dick Clark. Not a musician, but someone who had a tremendous amount of influence on music for several years. Although his influence had waned over the last several years.
Already this year we lost one of the biggest 70's stars in Donna Summer and one of the biggest 80's stars in Whitney Houston. Both the Beastie Boys and the Monkees certainly had huge influences in their day. The Beastie Boys were one of the first rap acts that really broke into the mainstream. They opened for Madonna on one of their first tours.
I was going to write about other famous and amazing musicians that might die this year. Those people included Robin Gibb, who died yesterday. That leaves only Barry Gibb as a surviving member of the Bee Gees. Even the Gibb's younger brother, Andy, died several years ago. Other singers that might die this year and doesn't seem to be out of the realm of possibility include Aretha Franklin (70). She seems to have been sick for a long time. Glen Campbell (76) is fighting alzheimer's disease. There are also still two remaining Beatles, Paul McCartney (69) and Ringo Starr (71) won't be around forever. Those ages seem to be even older in what can be a very destructive entertainment industry. Remember both Gibb and Summer were only in their early 60's when they died.
Other classic bands members are getting older too, including members of Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones (although surprisingly Keith Richards is still alive) and Creedence Clearwater Revival. Also Eric Clapton (67), David Bowie (65), Chuck Berry (85), B.B. King (86) and Sly Stone (69) are still alive.
There are deaths that may come from accident, suicide or some other unexpected cause. Remember last year when 27 year old Amy Winehouse suddenly died? That was sort of a surprise, but looking back now was it really that much of a surprise? Younger people that seem to have a higher rate of death than they should are Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. Both have had a troubled couple of years, but are still alive. However you never know when they might go off the tracks.
Songs today are great songs I've downloaded from legal sounds.com over the last couple of days. Do you remember this John Stewart song?:
Everlast's "The Warning":
This is one of those boy band songs that logically I shouldn't like, however it snuck it's way into my head. So yes I like this One Direction song:
Whitesnake's "In The Still Of The Night" (Live):
Roger Waters "Happiest Days of Our Lives/ Another Brick In The Wall Pt. 2" I love watching this and would love to "The Wall" tour before Roger quits touring. I love the killer guitar solo starting at 3:46. Both this and Whitesnake videos are the kind I play over and over again because the music is so good.
"Trolley Wood" comes from the CD "Room Noises", which is from one of my all-time favorite bands that no one has heard of. The band's name is Eisley.
Robert John's "Sad Eyes":
My favorite band growing up was Blondie. Thanks to legalsounds.com cheap prices I was able to buy a couple of their classic catalog albums. "Little Girl Lies" is a song I had never heard before, it's from the CD "Blondie":
I don't know if I'd want to see the full version of "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" in concert. However there's something very magical about this song. This is the Floyd version:
I truly love youtube.com for all the cool videos one can find on there. Where else would most of us see some of these cool videos? For some reason I thought this video would be a bit cooler. David Bowie's "Space Oddity":

Music, music and more music
Hello,
I watched nearly every minute of Game 3 of LA-Oklahoma City and the Thunder weren't nice enough to win? That's rude! It was good to see the 76ers come back from the dead, it seemed, to tie their series with the Celtics. That's exactly the kind of performance that Miami has to show tomorrow and I really hope they do.
This blog has got a bit of a way from it's original purposes. I do love music and it has meant a lot in my life. However I also love sports, movies and occasionally TV. But the main purpose of this blog is to be a music blog. My first blog was about at the time the upcoming release of "Chinese Democracy". And that turned out to be not really worth all the time that was put into it. Although I really do love "Better" from that CD:
Faith Hill's "This Kiss":
One of the catchiest songs ever, Boom Crash Opera's "Onion Skin":
This also needs to be filed under the extremely catchy songs as well. The Proclaimers "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)":
Every time I hear this song, I think it's Bread. However it isn't, this is Lobo. "I'd Love You To Want Me":
I feel a little strange liking this song, given it's skeevy nature. However I love this song:
The amazing Lauryn Hill's take on two old school classics. First Roberta Flack's "Killing Me Softly With His Song":
Lauryn Hill's "Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You":
This is a song that when I find the video on youtube and add it to my blog, I play it over and over again. I do that because I love it so much. Sticking with the Lauryn Hill theme, one of my favorite of her originals, "Doo Wop (That Thing)":
Other songs I play over and over again when adding them to my blog:
Sammi Smith:
Two more multiple listen songs, both from the 80's (yeah I know: of course):
And from the other end of the rock spectrum, the Police "Synchronicity":
Now here are some songs that I don't think have received enough love. These songs have been out for varying lengths of time. First up is Switchfoot's "Oh! Gravity":
Throw Me The Statute's "Ancestors":
They Might Be Giant's "She Was A Hotel Detective":
I know regular readers of this post, will say he's posting this song again? Yes I am! I have no idea why this song is so obscure when it's just as good as "One Night In Bangkok", especially this version.
Another song that I feel is unfairly forgotten. Granted "Money For Nothing" is an amazing song, but this song is enjoyable too. It's an amazing song, but this video is so bizarre.
It's only because I went through a 70's phase lately that I rediscovered this song again. I hope I don't forget Brook Benton's "Rainy Night In Georgia" again.

What will the Heat do? Can the Thunder Go Up 3-0
Hello,
Heard this song this morning, just a great, great song that I don't think about enough:
Since I was at work I missed the Heat-Pacers Game 3 last night. However I did catch the post mortem on sports radio though. Although it seems many are Heat haters, I'm not one of those people. I love to watch the Heat, especially the amazing Dwayne Wade. Although he had a miserable game last night, I don't think anyone questions his heart or desire. He has won a ring after all. He's battling injuries, but if they allow I predict a much better in Game 4.
I predicted the Heat would win this series without any trouble. In fact, I wouldn't have been surprised by a sweep. With the Heat grabbing a fairly easy victory in Game 1, I thought they were on their way. Of course that was before Chris Bosh was injured near the end of Game 1. I'm not sure what an abdominal strain is exactly, but it looks like it hurts. Without him in Game 2, the Heat still had a chance to tie that game. LeBron James fell back on the bad LeBron James from last season. He acted like he didn't want the ball. When he caught the ball in crunch time he got rid of it as quickly as possible. With the game on the line he threw that pass to Wade who was on a curl play. I think LBJ could have earned himself a decent shot, but he didn't want that responsibility at all. His expectations he raised on "The Decision" I think are weighing him down now. But his fear of the criticism for missing the big shot is paralyzing him.
Does Chris Bosh really make that big of a difference? It would seem. I heard Tim Legler state very eloquently how important it is for the Heat offense for Bosh to hit the 17 footer on a consistent basis. But why does it have to be him, why can't it be Mike Miller or Shane Battier? It must have to do with match ups or because Bosh is so tall he can get that shot anytime he wants.
Sunday's game is a great test for the Heat. How will they react? Have they already checked out of this season and are just planning their summer vacations now. This is the perfect opportunity for the Heat to truly show the heart and character they have. Almost literally this team has it's back against the wall. Will they stand up and fight or shrink into the corner? The same question needs to be asked of LBJ. It's time for LeBron James to live up to his full potential. It's time for him to shoot the last shot. It's time for him to stop "deferring" to his teammates. That always sounded like an excuse to me. Damn it you're LeBron James! Demand the ball and the last shot. Don't let your coach call the play for anyone else. If he does, ignore him and take the rock to the rack. You are a combination of the most powerful and graceful basketball players ever. Act like it. Do not shrink at the time that your team needs you most. Do not go gentle into that good night! Let all your past failures and wilting fuel you. Show that heart of a champion and that eye of the tiger.
What is he so scared of? If he misses the final shot, he misses it. Big deal. For LBJ missing the big shot is so much better than not shooting it all. LeBron it's time to show the world what you are truly made of. I'm looking so much to Game 4, will the Heat show they are men or boys?
Another game I'm looking forward to is tonight's Game 3 between the Thunder and Lakers. I've loved watching this series. In game two I almost gave up on the Thunder with about 2 minutes left, I'm glad I stuck it out. I thought the game was in the bag for the Lakers, but the Thunder scored the game's final 9 points and stole the victory. Which loss hurts worse for the Lakers? Is it getting blown out on tired legs in Game 1? Or is it blowing an almost sure victory in Game 2?
If Oklahoma City wins tonight will the Lakers have any fight left at all? I know that Kobe will because he's a hell of a competitor. The one I'm really wondering about is Andrew Bynum. I've heard the rumors that LA may trade Bynum to Orlando for Dwight Howard. I would like to know is which team would want either? I know that both have the capability of being all-time great players. They have the skills to achieve that, but do they have the heart? I do wonder how much either player wants to be truly great. If Howard REALLY wants to be an all-time great he has to shoot better than 50% from the free throw line. He should be embarrassed everyday how bad of a free throw shooter he is. All good free throw shooting is a lot of work and practice. The fact that he's such a terrible free throw shooter shows how little he cares. He should be in the gym each day shooting at least a couple hundred free throws a day.
I get that Andrew Bynum is immature, but he has to dig into himself deeper to become an all-time great. If he has the heart and the pride, all he has to do is to follow Kobe Bryant's example. I do realize there are hundreds of hours of hard work in that "all". And you know that Kobe wants him to be great as well. Andrew Bynum there are no more excuses left. It's put up or shut up time.
Now I loved that it looked like LA was going to win Game 3. It's worth it seeing Kobe throw the terrible pass that was intercepted by Kevin Durrant and turned into an easy dunk. I love watching Thabo Sefolosha's suffocating defense on Kobe, especially since the refs let them play. Sefolosha also added two big three-pointers to keep Kobe playing honest defense. I love having Ron Arrest back especially since he's such a horrendous shooter. I also laughed when he flopped after Harden accidentally hit him in the face. I love Karma.
For the Lakers to win this series, they have to win 4 of the final 5 games. They would have to win at least one game in Oklahoma City in front of their raucous fans. Can LA do it? Yes. Will they do it? No!
I look forward to tonight's game and hope that the Thunder win, putting a chokehold on the series and the Lakers. Go Thunder!

Damn Cancer Gets Another One! RIP Donna Summer
Hello,
Sadly Disco legend Donna Summer died today at the age of 63. While she or that kind of music hasn't been relevant for several years, she still leaves behind a bunch of great songs. Thanks Donna and R.I.P.
"Hot Stuff":
"On The Radio":
"Last Dance":
I once heard someone say that Donna Summer wasn't the most dynamic live performer, this video may confirm that. But still a great singer and song, "MacArthur Park":
"Dim All The Lights":
I think this is my favorite song of hers, "Bad Girls":
Donna's duet with Barbra Striesand "No More Tears (Enough Is Enough):
"Heaven Knows":

More of themusicaddict's Greatest Hits, Go Thunder
Hello,
NBA playoffs last night" LeBron? Was there another game played last night? Oh yeah and go Thunder. Bring the pain to the Lakers and Ron Arrest please keep your hands off any Thunder player. Thanks.
Arcade Fire's "Mountain Beyond Mountains":
Beastie Boys "Girls":
Veruca Salt's "Seether". This song is from the very good but vastly underrated "American Thighs". It would be well worth your money.
Grandmaster Flash's "White Lines":
The above song reminded me of the greatest rap band ever, Run-DMC, ever. RIP DMC. This is "It's Tricky":
Flo rida I'll never forgive you for what you did to this great song, the fact that you have disappeared is no surprise to me.
This is the original and the best version of "You Spin Me Right Round":
This sneaks into my all-time greatest hits because all cool the intro of this song is. Queensryche "Best I Can":
Um, I'm not sure what this song is about :)
Alanis Morissette's "You Oughta Know" gets the publicity, but I actually think that "Uninvited" is a better song:
I haven't liked a new Alanis song for a long, long time. However I'm quite fond of this song, "Guardian":

NBA playoffs: The Thunder Rolls, themusicaddict's Greatest Hits
Hello,
Things that make you go hmm. The "X Factor" is adding Britney Spears and Demi Lovato as judges? Why? I didn't watch any of the first season of this show and this certainly won't make me care about the second season. And adding Howard Stern to "America's Got Talent", who is that suppose to bring to that show. Do you know anyone who listens to Howard Stern? I don't. I'm glad because I would have to question their judgment.
Now on to that very enjoyable Thunder-Lakers game last night. I loved seeing the Thunder kick azz all over the Lakers. I a 100% certified Lakers hater and I'm so tired of hearing about them. Even last night when it didn't matter, Kobe was still getting calls. What the hell? I stopped watching the game at the end of the third quarter when the Thunder were up by 30! That was so sweet. With 4 games in 6 days this series might be over on Saturday. I would love so much to see the Lakers get swept, although I don't think that is going to happen. Last night the lightning struck and the Thunder rolled:
I think the Lakers have been "Thunderstruck":
I also loved that the Celtics had that moving pick go against them and Kevin Garnett with about 10 seconds left in the game. Since Garnett was essentially mauling the 76er, that was the right call. I did love hearing Doc Rivers whine about it though.
As much as I'm excited by the Lakers-Thunder series, it's kind of a slow time for sports. Thankfully we also have Major League Baseball in full swing. To me MLB is probably the most fun sport to follow, although it isn't my favorite sport to watch. The soap opera in Boston is entertaining, talk about a team that just needs to shut up. The Red Sox continue to do just enough to give their fans hope. In spite of that I don't see the Red Sox making the playoffs this year. There's just too much of a dark cloud surrounding them. Boston has won four in a row and lead 4-0 in the 6th inning in today's game. David Ortiz hit his 8th home run of the season. That's good and all, but what are the Red Sox stats?
Boston is still in last place in the AL East, 16-19 overall and only have a 30.1% chance of making the playoffs. Josh Beckett is pitching today for the Red Sox, how will the embattled Sox starter do? Of course, it would take a lot to do worse than the start of his season. Before today's game he was 2-4 with a 5.97 ERA. Through 6 innings he's doing fairly well. He had allowed no unearned runs and had 9 strikeouts.
On to the Dodgers, the team that has MLB's best record. LA is 24-11 and has a 85.4% chance of making the playoffs. LA has also won 5 games in a row. They lead the NL West's second place team, San Francisco, by 6 games. LA leads the Rangers by 1.5 games for best record in MLB. Matt Kemp is on the 15 day DL for his strained hamstring. After a torrid start, he had cooled down a bit. Let's hope his on field struggles were happening because of his injury. He still has fantastic stats but no longer leads in any of the NL Triple Crown categories.
Josh Hamilton still leads the AL in all Triple Crown categories. The triple crown stats are batting average, home runs and runs batted in.
I'm loving all the MLB action and the Thunder-Lakers series. But I do have one question for NBA players. Why are they wearing intentionally nerdy glasses at press conferences and at their lockers? Yes Mr. Russell Westbrook I'm looking at you. But there are a lot of boring things going on in sports now. For instance, the Roger Clemons trial, I'm so tired of hearing about this boring story. ESPN just because this trial is going on doesn't mean that anyone wants to hear about it. I'm not the only one bored by this story. Two jurors at this trial so far have fallen asleep. They were rewarded for their naps by being dismissed.
Other sports stories that I can live out: the other 3 NBA playoff second round series, how bad of a golfer Tiger Woods is now and the waste of time known as Bountygate. Does Clippers-Spurs excite anyone? Does anyone think that the Clippers have a chance? Tiger Woods has become an averaged professional golfer and there's no shame in that. What I hate is when the leading golf story is whether he made the cut or not and then they talk about who's leading. This story is only made worse by how boring golf is. Also I'm so tired of Bountygate, aka what every other NFL team did but didn't get caught.
For today's video portion of my blog, I've been working on a list of some of my greatest hits. These are some of my favorite songs of all-time. Many time I refer to Top 500 or Top 100 songs, many of the below songs would be on those lists. Enjoy.
I'm reading about David Bowie in the early February, 2012 Rolling Stone. That's when Bowie was going through his Ziggy Stardust phase. Anyway my favorite song of his is "Suffragette City":
Pink Floyd's amazing "Another Brick In the Wall Pt. 2"
This song played a major part in a recent episode of the excellent and soon to be dearly departed TV series "Awake". This is Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody":
Rush's "The Spirit of Radio":
Although I wouldn't say this is an official greatest hit of mine, I still think this is a pretty cool song. I just rediscovered it today. Again this is a great song, but a little hard to watch. Yes' "Leave It":
ZZ Top's "Stages":
Hopefully I will have a lot more greatest hits tomorrow.

Go Thunder. JJ Abrams' "Revolution": Will It Be Any Good?
Hello,
It was a disappointing game Saturday night between the Lakers and Nuggets. To no one's surprise the Lakers won as Kobe Bryant faded into the background a bit. He got his teammates involved and this time they were effective. Andrew Bynum and Pau Gasol stepped up and had the games they should have had the whole series. Ron Arrest was on the floor for the Lakers after his 7 game suspension. I didn't see him mug anyone, although I only watched the first half. He did manhandle fellow Ute Andre Miller a few times, knocking Miller out of his rhythm. 10:30 EST starts are too late, even in Utah that's 8:30. The game doesn't usually start until 8:45. Even on a Saturday night, some of us have to get up early in the morning.
In the NBA playoffs we are down to the four second round series, honestly only one series provides any real interest for me. Is anyone excited by Spurs-Clippers? Does anyone think that will be a competitive series? If you didn't know, here's your answers no and no. I heard one NBA expert said he wouldn't be surprised if the Spurs sweep, either would I. The Spurs will be well rested when they play the Thunder in the Western Conference Finals. Then in the Eastern Conference, both second round series are my definition of boredom. I expect the Heat to wipe out the Pacers, I'd be very surprised if that series goes to 6 games. As for 76ers-Celtics, all I can say is yawn.
The only second round series I'm really interested in is Thunder-Lakers. Interested means I'll actually watch most of the games on TV. The Thunder-Lakers series starts tonight and I'm expecting a complete battle. I wonder how many games until Arrest earns another suspension. Would that surprise anyone if he gets suspended in this series? I love to see Artest play for the Lakers though, he never received the memo that he's a horrible shooter. Also is he not one of the dumbest NBA players there are and he has a lot of competition. From his saying he's not going to shake James Harden's hand, to his unrealistic judge of his own abilities to his "freedom of speech" quote from a couple of days ago.
I don't think it's going to happen, but I would love to see the Thunder sweep. The Lakers did get swept last year to the eventual NBA champions, Dallas. I'm looking forward to Game 1 of the Thunder series tonight, thankfully starting at 7:30 MST. That means I can watch the whole game, unless the Thunder blow them out, then read a bit before going to bed. Go Thunder!
What do you think about the new JJ Abrams show? "Revolution" is a NBC show for the upcoming Fall season. On one hand this show looks kind of cool. But on the other hand how many of these end of the world shows are there going to be before we get tired of the premise? Maybe we've reached that point already. For example, there's "Battleship" coming out this weekend. That looks awful, even with the babetastic Brooklyn Decker and Rihanna in it. Although having Taylor Kitsch in a movie doesn't help at all. I loved "Friday Night Lights", but I hated Kitsch in it. There's just something about him that I don't like, although I can't put my finger on it. Other end of the world shows include the horrendous "Trans- formers" dreck, "Battle LA" and "Independence Day" "Independence Day" hasn't aged well at all and the "Transformers" movies were ever any good. Meanwhile on TV there's "The Walking Dead" and "Falling Skies", both of which have held up so far.
Then this show is from JJ Abrams, which usually means quality. However doesn't this 4 minute trailer feel a little "Lostian" to you? What is it about JJ Abrams shows and using ancient computers? I will probably catch a couple episodes of "Revolution", but I'm keeping my expectations low.

NBA Playoffs, "Castle" Season 4 Finale, "Awake", 70's classics Part. 3
Hello,
The NBA playoffs continued on last night. The Grizzlies forced a Game 7 by beating the Clippers in LA. I predict that the Grizzlies will win this series, however I really don't care. Again either team will get destroyed by the ruthless killing machine known as the San Antonio Spurs.
I'm looking forward to tonight's Game 7 between the Lakers and Nuggets. LA NBA teams have lost two straight games at home and I'd love to see that trend continue tonight. I just don't see how the Nuggets have a chance of winning this game. It's well known the Lakers are going to get the majority of the calls. How many cheap shots will Ron Arrest get away with under the guise of "good defense"? It works for the Celtics. Anyone breathing on Kobe will be called a foul. Kobe will probably get at least 10 foul shots, whether he deserves them or not. It will be interesting to see how many more free throws the Lakers get than the Nuggets.
I do have to say that Lakers-Thunder should make an amazing series, I would be much less interested in a Thunder-Nuggets series. And I would get some satisfaction watching the Thunder expose the LA Kobes.
Also tonight is Game 1 of the Philadelphia-Boston. Someone please wake me up when that series is over.
I watched the "Castle" Season 4 Finale the other day and I was a bit disappointed. Castle and Beckett finally got together, sort of. Again the show runner is dragging out that story way too long. But even worse is that the story of Beckett's Mom being killed will continue on in Season 5! And I thought "The Killing" was moving slowly in showing who killed Rosie Larson. "Castle" has so much going for it. A great cast and good stories. Why do they have to keep on circling back to that absolutely boring story about Beckett's mother? I expected more from the Season 4 finale.
Thanks to the coolness of On Demand, I watched the last 3 shown episodes of "Awake" last night. That is such a solid show and I'm glad I started watching it. The dual realities of Detective Britten can be a bit confusing at times, but this show seems like it would deal with it's mysteries in a very logical way. I was looking forward to a second season. Too bad last night it was announced this show has been cancelled. Most shows I like seemed to be cursed with short existences. I'm glad I didn't start watching "Lost" and "Battlestar Galactica" until they were over.
I was glad to see that "Body of Proof" was renewed for a third season though. I also look forward to the upcoming season 2 of "Falling Skies" and the third season of "Rizzoli and Isles".
Now on to some more 70's classics. Enjoy.
Linda Ronstadt's "Blue Bayou":
"Silver Threads and Golden Needles":
Rush's "Limelight". I love that they have an actual washing machine on the stage.
Um, the next videos may not be 80's songs, but they are close enough. Both have the feeling of an 80's song. I love how inventive and creative this song is. There's so much going on and it all fits together in a nice little package. "Spirit of Radio":
"Tom Sawyer":
My favorite song by the Carpenters, "Superstar":
"We've Only Just Begun":
Barry Manilow's "Copacabana":
"Mandy":
Bee Gees "You Should Be Dancing":
"Tragedy":
Here's a couple of hearts for you. First Blondie's "Heart of Glass":
Neil Young's "Heart of Gold":
This song has one of the greatest endings ever. Bette Midler's "The Rose":
Bruce Springsteen's "The River":
Bruce's "Born To Run": (RIP Clarence Clemons)
Reginald Dwight and Kiki Dee's "Don't Go Breaking My Heart":
I'm going to close with some Pink Floyd. This is "Comfortably Numb":
"Wish You Were Here". A song about Syd Barrett's battles with mental illness. Some of the most amazing lyrics ever.
"Run Like Hell":

NBA Playoffs: Go Nuggets!, The Celtics Are Dirty, The Lost Season of Bobby Valentine Continues, 70's Classic Songs Part. 2
Hello,
Last night I was able to watch the end of two great NBA playoff games and the destruction of the hated Lakers. It was a good night for the NBA and me.
The 76ers held off the Bulls and now advance to the second round of the playoffs. I've got over much of my bitterness about the lameness of Carlos Boozer. But I did have to chuckle to myself that he was on the bench at the end of a game that meant so much to the Bulls. In fact Boozer sat out the final 16:07 of the game and only made 1 of 11 shots. That's after not playing in the final quarter of the Bulls final 2011 playoff game. People are wondering if the Bulls should amnesty him? I say "no", just don't play him. He'll be so miserable he'll beg for his release. That's one thing we've learned about Boozer over the teams, he's solidly in the camp of Team Boozer. Boozer then could leave the team under terms more favorable to the Bulls. The Bulls signing Boozer will go down as one of the worst all-time NBA free agency signings. Of course, that won't surprise any Jazz fans. NBA teams here's a little tip for you: if a team's fan base is happy when they lose a player you probably shouldn't sign that player. I wanted him to leave a year or two before he finally did.
I completely agree with Hawks co-owner, Michael Gearon Jr., about the Celtics being dirty. The Hawks got very few calls. Boston has a reputation of tough defense- more like a lot of holding and grabbing. As in Game 5 of the series, Boston got the majority of calls for last night's game as well. For instance: the refs saying that the Hawks player was throwing in the ball when his teammate was mugged by the Celtic. On the next play Al Horford was mugged, as ESPN says "But Horford missed the first of two foul shots with 2.3 seconds left after he was tackled by Marquis Daniels to avoid an easy dunk that would have tied the game."
On that play it didn't even look like Marquis Daniels was going for the ball. Shouldn't that have been a flagrant foul? For the part of the game I watched the refs also called two technicals. Both on the Hawks, thankfully Ray Allen only made 1 of 2 of those free throws. When a ref calls a technical foul, to me that shows that the ref has lost control of the game. And giving that one extra point to the Celtics made a big difference in this game. Without that extra point, when Garnett made the shot with 30 seconds left, that would have only tied the game. Maybe with a bit more pressure Garnett misses that shot? That one point changed the entire complexion of the game after that technical foul was called.
And for the final 1.3 seconds of the game, I know it would have been a long shot. But why was Rajon Rondo allowed to bump Jeff Teague so that Teague couldn't even get that final shot off?
Now the Celtics will play the 76ers in the second round of the playoffs. I'll be cheering for the 76ers slightly, but overall I don't really care. After the Heat destroy the Pacers I don't see either the 76ers or the Celtics presenting much of a challenge to the Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals. I don't see Boston getting more calls than the Heat.
And as for Boston teams, it's good to see at least one of them is a winner. Too bad it's the wrong Boston team. The Red Sox continue their lost season of Bobby Valentine. Is there really any chance the Red Sox would bring him back for a second season? I know they have other problems than him, but has he done enough to deal with those problems? Is he even the right person to deal with those problems? He has seemed to add to Boston's problems and not lessening them.
Injuries have played a major part of Boston's problem, especially the injuries to Kevin Youkilis, Carl Crawford and Jacoby Ellsbury. The injuries to John Lackey and Daisuke Matsuzaka I consider more of a blessing than loss. But what the hell is going on with Josh Beckett, he seems to be undergoing some kind of Bynumization.
But still the Red Sox have lost 11 of their last 12 games at home. Can you imagine the Red Sox losing 11 of 12 games at home, even in their worst seasons would you have even imagined that to be possible? The Red Sox have also lost 8 of their 9 games in May so far. What will, or what can, Valentine do to salvage this season. Honestly I don't think much of what he will do will help. This Red Sox season has a feeling of being a lost season.
Hopefully getting everyone healthy and being able to dump Daisuke's contract before next season will help tremendously. They also need to get a guy in that clubhouse that is liked by everyone and that can rally the troops. If anything the Red Sox have too much money. Instead of signing the best player for their team, they sign the best player they can. That causes chemistry issues and has lead to this season of bad karma.
The NBA equivalent of course is the Knicks having Amare Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony on the same team. Whoever thought that would be a good idea? And why were the Heat apologizing to Amare Stoudemire for their PA announcer saying Stoudemire was "extinguished" when he fouled out of Game 5? Political correctness has got out of control in America.
Back to the NBA briefly: How much fun was it to watch the Nuggets dismantle the Lakers in last night's game. I enjoyed the Nuggets jumping to a 13 point lead and then most of the rest of the game. I stopped watching when the Nuggets went up by 28 points.
I honestly thought Kobe Bryant was making up his illness so he'd have his own Jordanesque moment. I'm glad the Nuggets ruined it for him. I didn't want to hear about the "bravery" of Bryant for the next several years. I had to hear enough about Jordan's "greatness" last night. However Bryant truly did look sick. As Dan Patrick pointed out today he didn't look as sick as the rest of his team. If Bryant hadn't played, the Nuggets could have won by 40. Watching last night's game reminded me again of how much of a one man team the Lakers are. Were either Pau Gasol or Andrew Bynum awake during the game? Or did they just not care? Or are they just not as good as advertised. The NBA does have a way of hyping up it's players. I can see why Gasol has dropped to the third option on the Lakers. If he's even a Laker next season, I expect him to be even lower.
It will be interesting what effect Ron Arrest will have on Saturday's Game 7. That's one thing you can be certain of is he'll have some kind of effect. It will be either good or bad for the Lakers. Honestly what I would love to see is for Arrest and Bynum to fight each other during the game. I don't think that's completely out of the realm of possibility. One is crazy and the other one is immature.
With the Nuggets forcing a Game 7 and Arrest eligible for Game 7, I increase the Nuggets chance of winning this series from .002% to 1%. The Lakers will get the majority of calls, especially at home. Also the NBA would much rather have a Thunder-Lakers second round series than Nuggets-Thunder. The NBA won't officially sanction the Arrest-Harden rematch. But ESPN would hype up the last game that the Thunder and Lakers played when Ron Arrest elbowed James Harden in the head. Although I'd love to see the Nuggets knock out the Lakers, just like the Nuggets team knocked out #1 seeded Supersonics several years ago. I still remember Dikembe Mutombo laying on the floor clutching the basketball in his hands.
As for Game 6 of Clippers-Grizzlies tonight? Honestly I care very little and I don't even know if I'll watch much of it. I'm sick of all the hype that surrounds Chris Paul and Blake Griffin. I don't think either the Clippers or Grizzlies will provide much of a challenge to The Terminator. Otherwise known as the Spurs.
Just a couple of quick pop culture thoughts before getting on to more 70's classics.
It was inevitable I guess, but "Mad Men" has had a rough season. Does "Mad Men" have to incorporate every 1966 cultural milestone into this season's story lines? 1966 is the year before I was born, so no I don't remember the cultural impact of the Beatles. But in my opinion they are one of the most over rated bands ever. It's incredibly cliche to have the Beatles represent the music of the 60s. According to rollingstone.com the Beatles were paid $250,000 for Don Draper to play "Tomorrow Never Knows" on that episode.
The Rolling Stones were a much better and more interesting band. And at the end of the 60's both Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix are coming along.
Although it was good to see the gorgeous Alexis Biedel again, but why did she end up with the pathetic loser known as Pete Campbell? I hope this show gets better throughout the rest of this season. "Walking Dead" bounced back the second half of it's last season. It's been a disappointing Season 5, although it has had it's moments.
Last weekend I watched the movies "Avengers", "Safe" and "Clear and Present Danger". Although I had previously seen "Clear and Present Danger", that was my favorite of the three movies. While I enjoyed "Avengers" it was way too long. They should have pushed "Avengers" back to 2013 and used another movie to better establish the back stories of Black Widow and the lame character Jeremy Renner played. Robert Downey Jr. was hilarious as Iron Man again, he always gets the best lines.
"Safe" was about as I expected, I was one of two people watching that movie. I really enjoyed "Clear and Present Danger". For some reason Hollywood has done a good job converting Tom Clancy books into good movies. "The Hunt For Red October" is actually a better movie than book.
Also to no one's surprise the boring "Alcatraz" has been cancelled. Now can the same thing be done to the atrocious "The Killing"?
Okay now here are several more 70's classics. Enjoy!
I've got a good job, so I'm glad that I can't complain. However I've had a few jobs where the idea of this song has crossed my mind. I love this video for how shaggy and unkempt Paycheck looks. In this era of pretty country boys, Paycheck would be completely out of place. Johnny Paycheck's "Take This Job And Shove It":
This song grabs you from the opening note.
