Hello,
I'm starting off with the amazing Stevie Wonder. I love how funky this song is, especially the beginning.
Four NBA playoff series went into last night's games with one team up 3-1. All those series could have ended last night, surprisingly only one of them ended. The first game of the night, Indiana-Orlando, was the only one to end. No loss there as that was a boring series, probably second only to the Jazz-Spurs series. Now Indiana can rest before they are destroyed by the Heat. The Heat will finish off Team Hype tonight and I won't be surprised if they sweep the Pacers. Then the Heat will rest before they play the Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals.
In another Eastern Conference series, somehow the Hawks were able to beat the Celtics last night. The Hawks couldn't buy a call from the refs. I also never had the feeling that the Hawks were actually going to win that game. Yet they fought hard, endured and somehow won. I'm not a Celtics hater, but I intensely dislike Rajon Rondo. I've disliked the prickly Rondo since his days at Kentucky. I loved that final play the Celtics ran for Rondo. It seems Coach Rivers play was for Rondo to over dribble and then run into the teeth of the defense, getting caught between the Hawks defender and the sideline. It was a brilliant play Rajon.
However Boston is just too good for the Hawks and they'll win this series in 6 games. Can I please not write anything about that incredibly ugly Bulls-76ers game? Okay, just a bit. Without Derrick Rose, the Bulls won this game 77-69. Keeping the score so low may be the only way that the Bulls can win now. Too bad for the Bulls they now go to Philadelphia for Game 6. I expect the 76ers to close it out at home.
I also expect the Lakers to win their series in 6 games. But how good was that last night that the Nuggets went into LA and beat the Lakers 102-99? Andrew Bynum failed at predicting the winner of this game. He said "Close out games are kind of easy....." I understand and mostly agree with what his thought, but why give the Nuggets any more motivation? Do I think that the Nuggets have a chance to win this series though? No, not even close. By winning in LA, I'm upgrading the Nuggets chance of winning this series from .001% to .002%.
And as much of a hater I am of Kobe Bryant, I have to admit he was amazing the last 5 minutes of last night's game. He hit 4 three pointers in the games final five minutes, with one or two of those being very spectacular. I watching highlights this morning of his incredible performance. As he shot one of those three pointers, I thought to myself there's no way that shot is going in. However it went in. I looked for highlights on youtube.com but couldn't find any. I still see the Lakers winning this series in 6 games, but that sixth game will probably be a battle. Props to fellow Ute, Andre Miller, for having an amazing game for the Nuggets.
Ron Arrest will be back for Game 7 of this series or Game 1 of the Thunder-Lakers. I expect that second round series to start Sunday.
A couple of other quick sports notes. There seems to be some shock that Cris Carter admitted that he paid for bounties when he played for the Minnesota Vikings. Why is anyone surprised by other players and teams having bounties? That's the main thing I've hated so much about the whole New Orleans Saints bounty issue. I imagine that nearly every NFL team had some sort of bounty system. While the Saints were stupid in the way they handled their system, they seem to be unfairly selected to make an example of. Honestly though this story needs to go away, it's received too much attention.
I hate the NFL's alleged justice system. Speaking of unfairness why has Roger Goodell made himself judge, jury and executioner? Then if an individual or team wants to appeal, they have to present their appeal in front of Goodell. As my daughter says "That's unfair". But in this case she would be right. The NFL's appeals system is completely unfair. Come on, how many times is he going to overturn himself? Never? Once?
Congrats to Josh Hamilton for his amazing 4 home run- 8 RBI game last night. Are the Rangers (20-10 and 95.0 Playoff %) this season's team of destiny? After coming so close the last couple of years, is this the year they finally break through and win the World Series? Can anyone besides Hamilton himself stop Josh Hamilton? It's amazing how hot of a start he's had this season. After last night's performance it looks like Hamilton could run away with the AL Triple Crown. In RBIs he leads the second place player Edwin Encarcion, by 11 RBIs. Hamilton is also hitting .406, will he make a run at hitting .400 this season? (Hamilton would look great in Dodger Blue next season. Just saying.)
"Argo" is a movie is based on a story from a magazine, Vanity Fair I believe. I remember both the Iranian Hostage Crisis and reading that article. It's an amazing story and I hope that Hollywood doesn't mess it up too much:
The other night I was looking for something to watch on TV. I just wasn't feeling it to watch "Smash" or "Revenge". I wanted to watch a guaranteed hour of quality TV. Somehow I stumbled across an episode from one of my favorite all-time television series "Cold Case". I loved that show, from Lilly Rush to all the other amazing characters surrounding her. It reminds me very much of "Castle", in that both have a funny and diverse set of characters.
It always amazes me to think of how much I liked "Cold Case" yet Veena Sud had something to do with producing it. Sud is the producer who has her clumsy fingerprints all over "The Killing". After watching the first two episodes of "The Killing" Season 2, I've stopped watching it. It's just too dumb and they keep on telling the same boring story over and over again. And from looking at the plummeting ratings, it seems I'm one of the many that has stopped watching the show. Season 2 started off with less than 2 million viewers and it has dropped about another half-million viewers since then.
Anyway "Cold Case" must have had a strong person to override some of Sud's worst ideas. Apparently there's no such person on "The Killing". What I really liked about "Cold Case" was how effectively they used music to tell the story. In the episode I watched the other day, "Boy Crazy", they used music by the Four Seasons as well as others so effectively. This episode's storytelling was great, and as a parent very gut wrenching. Hearing the girl calling out for her Daddy was unpleasant.
In honor of that great show and that great episode, here are some of my favorite Four Season songs. Enjoy.
