(Finished December 5th, 2019) Great Songs That Were Never "Hits", Part 1: Various Artists

Hello,

When I use the word "hits" I mean as a song that rose to being near or in the Top Ten of Billboard's Hot 100 Singles. A song can be both good and a hit or not good and a hit. The following list are great songs that were never "hits". Number in parenthesis is where it peaked if it ended up being ranked at all. All rankings information comes from Wikipedia, which they say they get from Billboard.

"Sun City was a 1985 album that contained several versions of the Steven Van Zandt-led Artists United Against Apartheid's "Sun Cityprotest song against apartheid in South Africa as well as other selections in the same vein from that project".

Above is for those that don't know or remember what apartheid was and a group of people who rallied rightfully against the nasty menace. 1) Artists United Against Apartheid "Sun City" (38):

One of the greatest songs of all-time "Doo Wop (That Thing)" deservedly went to #1. However the almost as good as "Ex-Factor" only moved up to #21. Now arguably most people would consider a song rising to #21 is a hit. However the song is at worst a Top 5 song in terms of quality.
2) Lauryn Hill "Ex-Factor":

3) "Everything Is Everything" only rose to #35:

This song wasn't even released as a single. 4) "When It Hurts So Bad":

This song soared to #1 in the UK and indeed became the biggest selling song there until Elton John's remake of "Candle In The Wind" surpassed it in 1997. Meanwhile here in the United States this song only reached #13. "Feed The World". 5) Band Aid "Do They Know It's Christmas":

This is one of the very few times I'll ever include Nickelback on my blog. First of all, they suck. Second of all, they're not very good. And third of all they suck. Despite all of that this is a great song and fits in with the criteria of the blog. 6) Nickelback "Never Again" (124):

7) ABC "Vanity Kills" (91):

8) ABC "That Was Then, This Is Now" (89):

9) The Charlie Daniels Band "The Legend of Wooley Swamp" (31):

A great lost 80's new wave hit. 10) Oxo "Whirly Girl" (28):

11) Anne Murray "A Little Good News" (74):

12) Prince "Musicology" (120):

13) Molly Hatchett "Flirtin' With Disaster" (42):

14) The Hooters "All You Zombies" (58):

15) Guns N' Roses "Nightrain" (93):

16) Guns N' Roses "It's So Easy/ Mr. Brownstone" (Didn't even crack the Top 100 = not ranked):

How did this song only get to #33. This song is the perfect combination of taking a great song and making it just more rockin'. Both versions of this song are classic though!!
17) Guns N' Roses "Live and Let Die" (33):

18) Sixto Rodriguez "Sugar Man" (NR):

19) Simple Minds "I Promised You A Miracle" (NR):

20) Howard Jones "Like To Get You Know Well" (49):
