(Finished November 30th, 2021) Part 1 of Best of 80s Female Rockers

Hello,

Let's go back once again to the 80s where the music was so good. Rock music of all stripes was great and the women rockers kicked some serious butt. Not only did they rock, but they looked great doing it. Women represented themselves so well in the rock world.

These next several songs are all by the rock goddess Pat Benatar. 1) "We Live For Love":

2) "You Better Run":

3) "Treat Me Right":

4) "Fire and Ice":

5) "Promises In The Dark":

6) "Invincible":

7) "Sex As A Weapon":

8) "All Fired Up":

These next several songs are headlined by the Wilson sisters, Ann and Nancy. One's a talented singer and the other sister is a talented guitarist. Beautiful and talented are the Wilson sisters. 9) Heart "Even It Up":

10) Heart "What About Love":

11) Heart "Never":

12) Heart "If Looks Could Kill":

13) Heart "Alone":

14) Heart "Who Will You Run To":

Tina Turner is not exactly a rocker, but Miss Turner has some pretty rockin' songs. These next several songs are by the queen of attitude.

Just an absolutely amazing song. 15) "What's Love Got To Do With It":

16) "Better Be Good To Me":

17) "I Can't Stand The Rain":

(Finished November 28th, 2021) Part 4 of The Best Songs of 1977

Hello,

This blog is mostly inspired by a book I saw yesterday at Target. I loved the title of the book, which is "I Heard It In A Love Song". That of course reminded me of the classic Marshall Tucker Band song. I knew I needed to hear that song again. I then took it further and decided to build a whole blog around it. I focused on 1961 yesterday. Today I'm focusing on 1977, it was an amazing year for music.

I spent more time than I should have to made sure all of these songs were released in 1977. If I am wrong on any it is my fault. I was trying to keep these songs in alphabetical order and I was pretty close, except for songs here.

52) Dave & Sugar ""That's The Way It Should Be":

53) Paul Davis "I Go Crazy":

54) Neil Diamond "Desiree":

55) Dr. Hook "Walk Right In":

56) Johnny Duncan featuring Janie Fricke "It Couldn't Have Been Any Better":

57) "Hotel California" Eagles "Life In The Last Line":

58) Electric Light Orchestra "Do Ya":

59) Electric Light Orchestra "Rockaria":

60) Electric Light Orchestra "Telephone Line":

61) Electric Light Orchestra "Turn To Stone":

62) Yvonne Elliman "If I Can't Have You":

63) Emotions "Best of My Love":

1977 was the year of release for the Fleetwood Mac CD "Rumours". This might be the greatest break up CD ever and is also one of the greatest CDs of all-time. I've written about this amazing CD in a previous blog.  Songs like "Go Your Own Way", "I Don't Want To Know", "Dreams" and the below classic all talk about the breaking of bonds that make this CD such an enduring classic. 64) Fleetwood Mac "The Chain":

65) Fleetwood Mac "Don't Stop":

66) Fleetwood Mac "Dreams":

67) Fleetwood Mac "Go Your Own Way":

68) Lindsey and Stevie "Never Going Back Again":

(Finished November 27th, 2021) Projected Roger Waters "This Is Not A Drill" 2022 Setlist

Hello,

I saw The Aces/ Madeline The Person (who is incredibly sweet) and the Rubies in concert last night. The Aces were very good and my only regret about them is I didn't know their songs better. If I had I would've enjoyed the concert more. As of now the next concert I'm going to will be the Roger Waters "This Is Not A Drill" tour. As Pink Floyd/ Roger Waters been around a lot longer than the Aces I obviously know his music a lot better. For those of you who don't know his music this is a good sampler. This is last full setlist that I could find. My Roger Waters tickets are for Thursday, September 8th, 2022. Enjoy these amazing Roger Waters songs.

1) "Breathe":

2) "One of These Days":

(Finished November 26th, 2021) Part 4 of The Best Rock Music of the Late 70's: 1976-1980, Songs 52-68

Hello,

I was watching the first episode of the newly reprised "Freaks and Geeks" on Hulu the other day. It's based in 1980 and has many of the great songs of that time play in the show. The song that really stood out was Styx's "Come Sail Away". It's a song I didn't like much for the longest time but have grown to like over the last few years. But last night it really hit me how great of a song it is. For 1979 we know it was a terrible year for rock music as that year was the peak of disco. But there are still dozens of great rock classics in this five year window. Here's over 140 songs from that era.

Neil Peart was such an amazing drummer, he also wrote most of Rush's songs. Gone too soon. 52) Rush "The Spirit Of Radio":

53) Led Zeppelin "Achilles Last Stand":

54) The Marshall Tucker Band "Heard It In A Love Song":

55) Foreigner "Blue Morning, Blue Day":

56) The Buggles "Video Killed The Radio Star":

57) Billy Joel "Sometimes A Fantasy":

58) Pink Floyd "Young Lust":

59) The Climax Blues Band "Couldn't Get It Right":

60) Kiss "Calling Dr. Love":

61) Cheap Trick "Dream Police":

62) Peter Gabriel "Games Without Frontiers":

63) Paul McCartney "Coming Up":

64) Blondie "Call Me":

65) AC/DC "T.N.T.":

66) The Steve Miller Band "Swingtown":

67) Heart "Straight On":

68) The Eagles "The Long Run":

This song was released as a single in 1977 and didn't chart. But the song soared to #7 when it was released as a single from Cheap Trick At Budakon. But before that it was released as a studio track. Wow, I had no idea how much better the live version is. 38) Cheap Trick "I Want You Want Me":

(Finished November 23rd, 2021) Part 1 of The Best Songs of 1962

Hello,

With 2022 rapidly approaching I thought I would review the best songs of 1962, 1972, 1982, 1992, 2002 and 2012. I would have gone back further but I know very few songs from either 1942 or 1952. If a song was a significant chart factor in two years I will include that song in both years.

These songs are the best songs of 1962, not the biggest hits. A lot of great songs never become a hit.

Also the biggest pop culture trend of the early 60s was the twist dance. From the Chubby Checker classic song came a whole slew of imitators. You'll notice those twist songs throughout this entire blog series. Chubby Checker's "The Twist" went to #1 in 1960. Then it went back to number 1 in 1962. The only song of the rock era to go to #1 in two different years.

1) Eddy Arnold "You Slipped A Little Heartache In On Me":

2) The Beach Boys "409":

3) The Beach Boys "Surfin' Safari":

4) The Beach Boys "Ten Little Indians":

5) The Beatles "Love Me Do":

6) Tony Bennett "I Left My Heart In San Francisco":

7) Blue Bells "I Sold My Heart To The Junkman":

8) Pat Boone "Speedy Gonzales":

9) Brook Benton "Hit Record":

10) Brook Benton "Lie To Me":

11) Brook Benton "Shadrack"

12) Brook Benton "Walk On The Wild Side":

13) Gary "U.S." Bonds "Dear Lady Twist":

14) Gary "U.S." Bonds "Twist Twist Senora":

15) Solomon Burke "Cry To Me":

The actual song starts about the 30 second mark. 16) Freddy Cannon "Palisades Park":

17) Johnny Cash (With The Carter Family) "Busted":

(Finished November 20th, 2021) Part 7 of themusicaddict's Actual Greatest Songs Of All-Time (GSOAT)

Hello,

Another Greatest Songs of All-Time issued from on high by Rolling Stone magazine. I love that magazine and have been a subscriber since approximately the early 80s. I understand that a lot of people have different tastes in music. That's the best way it should be, but as with all opinions I have my own opinions. Just as fervently I agree with some of their choices I also disagree with some of their choices. Currently I'm working on my Top 100 Songs of All-Time and honorable mentions. There are just some songs that I can't not include in the Greatest Songs of All-Time. I started with 100 Greatest Songs of All-Time. That has now worked up to about 205 songs and will continue to rise. For this blog I'm going to focus on the actual Greatest Songs Of All Time, not the honorable mentions. These are songs that are ranked outside of my Top 100.

These lists are very fluid. Most of these songs could have also been in my All-Time Top 100 if only I had thought of them earlier. There are probably about 300 to 500 songs that will always be in my GSOAT. Again these are GSOAT, just outside my Top 100 GSOAT.

One of the very rare times someone has made a Simon and Garfunkel song better. 203) The Bangles "Hazy Shade of Winter":

204) Mariah Carey "Someday":

205) Stan Ridgway "Camouflage":

206) Seal "Kiss From A Rose":

207) Gnarls Barkley "Crazy":

208) Madonna and Antonio Banderas "Goodnight and Thank You":

209) Isaac Hayes "Theme From Shaft":

210) Montgomery Gentry "Roll With Me":

211) Crosby, Stills and Nash "Southern Cross":

212) Daughtry "Over You":

213) Pink Floyd "Comfortably Numb":

It's specifically this version of the song that's one of the greatest songs of all-time. 214) Eric Clapton "Layla":

215) Midnight Oil "Beds Are Burning":

216) Chris DeBurgh "Lady In Red":

217) Kylie Minogue "The Loco-motion":

Bruce Springsteen featuring young and cute Courtney Cox before she got way too much work done. 218) "Dancing In The Dark":

219) Deborah Allen "Baby I Lied":
