Hello,
On the day Stone Temple Pilots have announced that they've fired Scott Weiland, it seems appropriate to have one of their great songs here:
"Interstate Love Song":
Did Bill Gates really say that "coders are today's rock stars"? Um if that's true then who is your favorite coder? They need to put Gates back in wherever they keep him. Sorry Bill but today's rock stars are today's rock stars. That deserves another classic STP song, "Plush".
Facebook takes up way too much of my time, I'm trying to cut back on it. One thing that makes Facebook so addictive is SongPop. One of my favorite things about SongPop is reminding me of songs that I've completely forgotten about. For instance Stacy Lattisaw's "I Found Love On A Two Way Street":
But like many things from the 70s and 80s some things should never come back, for instance this song. I don't even remember this song or it's lame video. Cover your eyes and your ears for Gavin Christopher's "One Step Closer To You":
Ok I need to get the above video out of my head asap, moving on to another current newsmaker Bobby Brown. To no one's surprise Brown will be going back to jail. I wish him luck on "every little step" he takes:
I wonder if this is what he felt about Whitney Houston at one time?: "It blows my mind you would even talk to me, because a girl like you is like a dream come true a real life fantasy"

Jerry Jones Wants The Credit: What The Hell Is He Talking About Now? (Updated Feb 27th, 2013)
Hello,
Jerry Jones, the super egoist, strikes again:
“I would grant you the decisions that have been made over the years have not produced a Super Bowl, two Super Bowls or three Super Bowls that I would like to have been a part of,” Jerry said this weekend at the scouting combine while sitting in his beautiful new luxury bus, the mobile version of JerryWorld. “And the only thing I am going to do there is keep trying and then make sure I get the credit when we do get that one.
“Y’all are going to give it to me, aren’t you?”
Jerry if you ever wonder why people hate you read what you said above. First of all you do all kinds of harm to the English language. Second you are more interested in getting credit than winning. Thirdly, while people are suffering world wide, you have a luxury tour bus. Those 3 things show what makes you such a giant douche bag.
Let's see, I'm glad that Jones realizes that the Cowboys haven't won a Super Bowl. Of course common sense and all Cowboys fans would also gladly tell him that. And I'm glad he's going to keep trying. But why does he want the damn credit so much? Let the people that really know football make the football decisions and then glory when your team is successful. But no that's not good enough for Jerry. He has to win and he has to get the glory, therein lies the problem. It's also the reason the Cowboys are going to continue being an afterthought while Jones continues to be their owner.
OK Jerry Jones I'll give you credit. The Cowboys have won a grand total of one playoff game in the last 16 years. That's all because of your brilliant decisions Jerry. (Really someone needs to invent a font for when people are being sarcastic.) Jerry, without your guiding influence the Cowboys might have lucked into two playoff wins in that time. But thanks to Jones' continual atrocious decisions two playoff wins was too much for ask for.
Along with his miserable personnel decisions another weakness of Jones is managing the salary cap. Right now the Cowboys are $20 million over the salary cap. Instead of eating the contracts this season to prepare better for the future they are probably going to restructure most of those contracts. That will enable them to get under the salary cap for this season. But what will that do going forward? That will push more money into next year's salary cap, meaning next year the Cowboys will again be over on the salary cap. Do you see a trend here? But even worse is the dead cap space that Jones terrible decisions make. Although Roy Williams wasn't on the Cowboys last season, he still counted about $7 million against the Cowboys cap. Yes, Jerry I'm giving you the credit you crave so much for making another one of your stupid personnel decisions.
Today at ESPN Dallas they posed the question: will Jerry Jones ever win a Super Bowl again? I was surprised only 63% thought that he would never win a Super Bowl again. But the truly hard core fans, the ones who take the time to comment on ESPN's stories, seem to be running about 80% against the Jones ever winning another Super Bowl.
Honestly I hope this is the year that the Cowboys hit their nadir. I would love to see them crawl to only 2 or 3 wins the whole season. Would that be enough to show Jerry that his way doesn't work? Probably not! He still hasn't learned after 16 years of his own futility and is still living on the glory of the Jimmy Johnson era. Jones thinks that early 90's glory belongs is because of him. No it was simply the first of many hundreds of horrible decisions made by Jones.
Jerry you are truly an embarrassment to the Cowboys, to the city of Dallas and to the NFL. ESPN Dallas writer Tim MacMahon says it better than I ever could.
The biggest bunch of bull heard around Valley Ranch -- and there’s a lot of it -- is the line about Jerry being willing to do whatever it takes to win. If that were the case, he’d hire a legitimate GM, get out of the way and just focus on being a marketing genius.
But America’s Team will continue being a mediocre mess because Jerry craves credit more than he wants to win.
Thanks Tim for poking holes in Jones delusional thoughts.
Jerry Jones, please take Manti Te'o and go away.

Mystery NBA Team: Why So Much Hype?
Hello,
Thanks to ESPN, let me give you some stats. From these stats would you say this team is worthy of the hype of a team that's actually good? This mystery team is:
1) 28-30 overall, 10-19 on the road. And against the Top 8 Western Conference teams on the road they are 1-10. This mystery team is 9th place in the playoff race, meaning they wouldn't even make the playoffs if they started today! They are 3 games behind the 8th place team.
2) Their starting shooting guard is deservedly a legend, however the pieces that surround him are very suspect. This team's point guard was good back in the day, but has lost a lot since then. Their power forward is suppose to be an all world player, but at 26 is clearly on the downhill side of his career. He can't even make 50% of his free throws, making a ghastly 3 of 14 last night. He was also caught flat footed on several plays on the defensive end, which is no surprise as he rarely gives full effort. This same player also is injury prone and hates sharing the spotlight. Their other starting forward is a terrible shooter and a thug. And their alleged center is extremely slow, injury prone and this year has been a whiner. I won't even write about their coach, but he clearly isn't the man for this team's jsob.
3) This mystery team gave up 78 points in the paint last night, 78 points! Think about that, that's against a decent offensive team. That means the mystery team has no inside presence and their opponent wasn't afraid of taking the rock to the rack. In fact they had several alley oops.
4) The mystery team was outscored 33-3 on fast break points. So not only are they are vulnerable to offensive play in the paint, but they are also slow.
What team am I talking about, obviously the Lakers. I'm glad I'm not cheering for the Lakers. I look forward to the obituaries written about this team when they miss the playoffs. Although crawling in to the 8th seed would be good too. They would get destroyed this season and have their draft pick hurt for next year. I'm sure glad that Dwight Howard isn't my favorite team's "future".

EarlyRise Reaches Their Kickstarter.com Goal + Amanda Palmer
Hello,
Congrats to EarlyRise for reaching their $15,000 Kickstarter.com goal. Not only did they make their goal but they exceeded it by over $3000. They made 122% of their goal with $18,338. I'm proud to call myself one of their 408 backers. They'll now be able to independently make their second CD with this money. It should see the light of day December of this year. Of course that date is very tentative. Of course I'll be passing on updates as they come.
While EarlyRise reaching their goal was very impressive, I was overwhelmed by what one of Amanda Palmer's Kickstarter projects did. The Dresden Dolls singer had a goal to reach $100,000 for a new CD, book and tour. She ended up pulling in $1,192,783 meaning she funded her goal 1,192%. That's been the highest funded music project on Kickstarter.com ever. Impressive.

Dwight Howard Has Self-Awareness? Who Knew?, Cowboys Continue To Delude Themselves
Hello,
I didn't know that Dwight Howard had any kind of self awareness, but it seem that he does.
From an interview he had with ESPN yesterday afternoon, Howard said:
"You've got to have energy and I want to bring that energy every night. That's my job. They count on me to be that guy. I just know how much more effective I will be when I'm in better shape. And, unfortunately, it's cost us a lot of games."
Now lets see how long it is for the horrific free throw shooter admits to how many games the Lakers have lost because of that. At this point of the season Howard is shooting .493 from the line.
I also love that Kobe Bryant guaranteed that the Lakers would be making the playoffs. Steve Nash, Mike D'Antoni and Howard also stood behind Bryant's guarantee. Well of course they did, what are they going to do disagree? Also I want to know why people are always quoting what Howard has to say. He's probably one of the least interesting current NBA players. When he writes his autobiography, as he inevitably will, it should be titled "Smoke and Mirrors".
Currently the Lakers are in 9th place in the Western Conference. Who are they going to catch to make their way into the playoffs? They are 3 games behind the Rockets, who are playing great, and 4 games behind the Jazz. Will the Lakers catch either one of those teams? It's possible but I don't know how likely it is. Also as I'm writing this the Lakers are about to play the Mavericks in Dallas. If Dallas wins that game they'll be virtually tied with the Lakers for 9th place in the Western Conference. Bryan't guarantee looks more and more shaky. Even if the Lakers do somehow crawl into the playoffs they'll get eliminated in the first round.
But my favorite news coming out of Lakers land this week is when Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak called Howard the Lakers "future". It's a sign of how effective the smoke and mirrors are that surround Howard in LA. Howard agreed with Kupchak that he's the future of the Lakers. Really? That makes me laugh. Why would you want to build a team around a player who's a terrible foul shooter, that's all about himself and who whines every year about where he's going to play? There's no guarantee that Howard will even sign with the Lakers in the offseason. I'm sure Howard will stretch out where he's going to play next season as long as he can. In and ESPN.com poll 74% of participants thought that the Lakers should have traded Howard, I shared the majority's viewpoint.
Also Kupchak insists they'll continue to stick with D'Antoni. As a Lakers hater I love the blindness of Kupchak.
Also the Knicks are coming back to reality. After a blistering start, they have now lost 4 straight games. Two of those games were very ugly, including their 125-91 beat down at the hands of the Pacers. Currently the Knicks are in third place in the Eastern Conference, if the playoffs started today they'd play the very hard nosed Chicago Bulls. Of course the playoffs aren't starting today, which may even be worse news for the team playing the Bulls in the playoffs. Derrick Rose might be back by the actual playoffs.
The Lakers play the Andrew Bynum 76ers today, let's hope for the Knicks fifth straight loss.
Every time I hear something new from the Cowboys, it just causes me to shake my head even more. I continue finding myself pulling away from the franchise that I've loved my entire football life. The ineptness and self-delusion coming out of Dallas is now reaching even more epic proportions. I can see that one day I'll stop following the Cowboys altogether, especially if a Jones continues to be an owner. Lately when I do watch the Cowboys play, it's mostly hate watching. Any team that sticks with the ineffective Jason Garrett and Tony Romo I wonder how many other stupid ideas do they have up their sleeves. At least before the end of the next season Garrett and his "process" will be fired. The only question is when?
Just one more quick comment about the inept Dallas Cowboys. It seems Stephen Jones is learning how to blow smoke up people's butts as well. Of course he learned from the best, his Dad Jerry. Prepare to have smoke blown up your butt:
“We just believe it’s going to happen,” Stephen Jones said. “Some guys it happens later in their careers; look at (Brett) Favre and (John) Elway. Some guys it’s happened earlier. We just believe that we can win a championship with him. I think his numbers speak for themselves. Obviously there’s things we have to continue to improve upon as far as putting the right pieces around him, then there’s things obviously in his game he can continue to improve on. He’s a young 33 because he didn’t play his first three, four years.”
Well geez Stephen I believed it was going to happen too until he completely choked so many times. I also agree with Jones that Romo's "numbers speak for themselves". The Cowboys have a .500 record over the last two seasons and Romo is 1-6 in win or go home games. Also the Cowboys have only made the playoffs 1 of the last 5 years. I realize that Jones is talking about Romo's great regular season individual numbers, but honestly who cares about those as a fan? Those numbers mean little if the Cowboys can't even make the playoffs.
Mark it right here the Cowboys will never win a Super Bowl with Tony Romo as quarterback. Also the Cowboys will never win another Super Bowl as long as they Jerry Jones or any kin of his as their key decision maker. I do give a 1% chance to them winning the Super Bowl if the players can figure out a way to win in spite of Jones' idiocy.
Stephen Jones is right they need to put the right pieces around Romo. First and foremost an effective offensive line. However that's been known for a few years now, why have the Cowboys done so little to this point. I also agree that there are things that Romo can improve on. Things like winning in the clutch and not throwing the ball to the wrong team. Someone also needs to explain to Romo how helpful it is to throw the ball away sometimes. Finally Romo is a "young 33" because he didn't play the first 3 or 4 years of his career. I love that Jones can find a positive in the fact that Romo couldn't beat out the very slow Drew Bledsoe to be the starting qb for the Cowboys.
As Bill Simmons would sarcastically say, "When you can pay $16 million a season for a quarterback who has only won one playoff game, you got to take that deal."
I continue to find myself saying more and more, "Go 49ers!"

80's Music: Why Are Hall & Oates Forgotten?, EarlyRise update
Hello,
As any semi frequent reader of this blog knows, I love 80's music. I love how diverse it is etc. However when listening to 80's music now I rarely hear Hall and Oates. And I have no idea why. They were big stars during the mid to early 80s and had several great song. How can a band that has so many great songs be forgotten? Yes, I know they had a song in "500 Days of Summer". But on 80's radio at least, they've mostly been forgotten. I will say that Spotify 80's radio plays them quite liberally. Here are just a few of my favorite Hall and Oates songs.
Hall and Oates weren't just an 80's band, they also had some great songs during the mid to late 70s. One of those songs is "Sara Smile":
"She's Gone":
Here are a few of their 80s hits, starting with "Private Eyes":
This is that song from "500 Days of Summer". "You Make My Dreams Come True":
One of their best songs, but for some reason has been a bit more forgotten than their other songs, this is "Adult Education":
"Out of Touch":
EarlyRise has smashed through their $15,000 kickstarter.com goal and are headed for more money. As of early afternoon today, they are now funded 103%. They will continue accepting money for just a little over 2 days. As of right now $15,499 has been pledged and they have 349 backers. Expect their second CD to be released about December 2013.
Remember all the hype about Buckcherry early in their careers? Many people were wondering if they were going to be the next Guns N' Roses. Looking back that seems laughable now, however they've become a solid band. They have several good songs. That being said I wasn't dying for their new CD to come out. "Confessions" was released yesterday. I have a confession of my own to make, it's really a pretty average CD. It's bland rock and roll. And since they have to show how "real" they are the f-bomb is liberally dropped throughout the record. Now I'm okay with an appropriate f-bomb dropped occasionally. However when it's used too much, it loses it's power. Josh Todd, lead singer, uses it way too liberally. With that much use, he's just appealing to the lowest common denominator music fan.
NBA Thoughts: Dwight Howard Continues To Be An Idiot
Hello,
Just a few quick NBA thoughts today.
This past weekend was the NBA All-Star game, did anyone watch it? And if so, why? Twenty years ago the NBA All-Star game was in Salt Lake City and I was so excited for that game. The game went into overtime and John Stockton and Karl Malone shared the MVP award. Remembering that was the highlight of the All-Star weekend for me.
However in the last several years I realized that for the most part all-star games are boring. The worst All-Star game is the NFLs without a doubt. I have no idea why they even keep on playing that game. I couldn't even tell you who won this season's All-Star game or could I tell you anything about it. While the NBA All-Star game is better than the NFLs, overall it's pretty pointless as well.
The dunk contest is boring as is the 3 point shooting contest. Nearly everything else is boring about the NBA's All-Star Game. Then as for the actual game itself on Sunday, yawn. Who's the idiot who thought the game should be in primetime? Who wants to watch an all-offense, no defense game? I know that it sounds cool initially, it just gets boring quickly.
Kobe Bryant obviously played for the Western Conference All-Stars. So Kobe how did you like playing on a good team again? Hopefully soon the 10th place Lakers will become the after thought that they already should have become.
Meanwhile Bryant'ss idiotic teammate Dwight Howard was making an ass out of himself as usual. I love that he made that 3/4ths court shot. I just wondered how many he attempted before he finally hit that shot. It's to typical of Howard to practice shots that draw attention to himself, but he still can't make half of his free throws. Then during the game itself he hit the long two pointer and then pretended like he was blowing smoke off of his hot pistols before holstering the guns. Please. If Howard worked as hard on his free throw shooting as he does on drawing attention to himself, he would be legendary. The fact that he isn't even close says all that needs to be said.
I'd love to see Howard get traded before Thursday's NBA trade deadline. But to do that the Lakers would have to admit they made a mistake in trading for Howard in the first place. The Lakers making a mistake, gasp. Obviously trading Howard won't happen. No matter how the Howard-Andrew Bynum trade looks three years from now, the Lakers won't be the biggest loser in that deal. No, that will be the 76ers, who traded for Andrew "Head Case" Bynum of all people. He makes Howard look like a rocket scientist.
Also R.I.P. to Dr. Jerry Buss. I'm a first class Lakers hater, but I always had respect for him. While he was the Lakers owner, they won 10 championships. That's pretty impressive.
Back to the Howard-Bynum trade briefly, trading for players based on potential, hype and upside is fool's good. Also trading for players that are head cases or injury prone in hopes that you can get a deal is also not a good idea. Believe me I know this first hand as I'm a Dallas Cowboys fan. The first two lines in this paragraph basically describes the Cowboys drafting/ trading and free agent signing strategy. Why else do you think the Cowboys are always so mediocre?
Anyway one NBA trade I'd approve of is the Paul Milsap-Eric Bledsoe potential trade. The Jazz have too many good front court players and it's hard to find minutes for all their bigs. Although I wish Al Jefferson was the one that was potentially going to the Clippers. The Jazz need a long-term solution for point guard. The patchwork point guard solutions just isn't working for the Jazz. First Devin Harris and now Mo Williams. Both decent point guards, but neither one will take a team to a NBA Championship.
NFL news: Matt Barkley will be attending the NFL Combine, but will not be throwing. I expect that Barkley will be the next ex-USC quarterback to be a bust in the NFL. He's a good pocket passer when given time, but he's too immobile for the NFL.
If you ever stumbled across this blog a few times, you'll notice that I claim 3 teams as "my" NFL teams. The Dallas Cowboys, Tampa Bay Bucaneers and the San Francisco 49ers. I've been a lifelong Cowboys fans, but have become so dissatisfied with how poorly run they've been for the last several years. The fact that they would even consider re-signing Tony Romo boggles my mind. He's failed in nearly every single big game up to this point, why does anyone think that will be changing soon? I would also question if they don't resign Anthony Spencer but do resign Jay Ratliff. Of course they are so hampered by Jerry Jones many atrocious drafts.
I know a long preamble, but I'm saying that as I expect my teams to have higher standards. It's another reason why I've become so disillusioned with the Dallas Cowboys. They've always had miscreants on their team. From Hollywood Henderson to Michael Irvan to now Jay Ratliff and Josh Brent. Once in awhile a miscreant will turn out to be a good player and be able to contribute. But for every Michael Irvin and Charles Haley there are 15 Tank Johnsons signed by the Cowboys.
For the most part the Buccaneers seem to have had mostly decent dudes on their team. But when they have someone do something stupid, I'm going to call them out. Da'Quan Bowers, what the hell were you thinking? He was arrested at LaGuardia airport yesterday. In his carry on bag he had a handgun. Apparently Bowers hadn't heard of 9/11. How did he not know that he shouldn't bring a gun with him to an airport? Did he have a sense of entitlement from being a NFL player? Has he done similar things before and got away with it? I can't even put in words how stupid this was.

EarlyRise Reaches $15,000 Kickstarter.com Goal!!
Hello,
At about 10:00pm EST EarlyRise reached their $15,000 goal with Kickstarter.com. With still 4 days to go, EarlyRise now has $15,024 in pledges. That means they'll be able to record their second CD. That means that everyone will get more great music from this young and upcoming band. And the so far 327 backers will get the things tied to the amount of pledge they made.
I have to admit just a few days ago I didn't think EarlyRise were going to reach their goal. They are still accepting additional pledges. Now they've reached their goal, any donations from now on will just be gravy.
Thanks to all my fellow EarlyRise fans for funding their second CD.

themusicaddict's Sexy Love Songs
Hello,
These two songs aren't but subtlety in the least. Starting off with Sinead O'Connor and where she want's her lover's hands:
George Michael's "I Want Your Sex":
Some pop artists based their whole image on sex, some weren't so subtle about doing so. One of the most over the top was Samantha Fox.
"Touch Me":
"Naughty Girls Need Love Too":
"I Wanna Have Some Fun":
"Hot For You":
Even though I think most people considered Olivia Newton-John a good girl, she revealed a bit of a risqué side on this song. 80's video, I'm sure that Olivia is more than a little embarrassed about this video now. This is such an 80's video: "Physical":
My first post-mission concert and date, I don't remember if the lovely Miss Easton sang this song or not: "Sugar Walls":
Above an alternative song and pop songs talking about sex. Here's one of literally hundreds of rock songs that talk about the joys of sex. Let's be honest nearly every rock song is about sex, some are just a little more explicit than others. Van Halen's "Black and Blue" is one of the more sexplicit songs:
"Finish What Ya Started":
I think nearly all teenage boys had some kind of fantasy about a teacher, "Hot For Teacher":
Here are a couple of sexy love songs by Eddie Money. This first song has gained a little attention recently because of Money prominently being featured in the commercial singing this song. "Two Tickets To Paradise":
"Take Me Home Tonight":
Robert Palmer "Bad Case Of Loving You (Doctor, Doctor)":
Even Bruce Springsteen, singer for the working man, doesn't shy away from his occaisonal song about sex. This is just one of the many excellent songs from "The Rising", this is "Let's Be Friends (Skin To Skin)":
Then there's the Springsteen written "Fire" sang by the Pointer Sisters:
As with the above song of course dance/soul music didn't shy away from the sexy love songs. This is Mary Jane Girls "In My House":
One of the best sexy love songs ever, Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On":
The early to mid 80's New Wave phase had some sexy songs as well. This is one of my favorites, Modern English's "I Melt With You":
Frankie Goes To Hollywood's "Relax":
Peter Gabriel's "Sledgehammer":

EarlyRise Kickstarter.com Update" President's Day, 2013
Hello,
I was beginning to doubt whether EarlyRise was going to be able to reach their Kickstarter.com goal of $15,000. However since yesterday about this time, they've raised over $1000 more dollars. They're now 96% funded, currently having $14,471 pledged. That means they only need to earn $529 over the next five days to reach their goal. If they are able to reach that goal all that money would go to making their second CD. This is an all or nothing process, either they reach the $15,000 goal or the project isn't funded. Even when they hit their $15,000 goal they'll continue to accept more contributions. See below
From the kickstarter.com website from EarlyRise:
Your pledges will be used to pay for demoing new material, recording, mixing, mastering, and associated travel expenses. Every dollar we raise over $15,000 will be used to promote the new album once it's released, because we really want it to reach as many people as possible! Additional funds could also enable us to take this record on the road, and finally get a chance to meet you all in person!
The $14,471 includes my $55 contribution. The contribution process is easy, it goes directly through amazon.com. However you can't use your amazon.com store card to make a contribution. Don't tell EarlyRise but I would have donated money even if I didn't get anything. The fact that I get the hard copies of their first and second CD and the digital copy of their second CD two weeks early is just a nice bonus. Also they sent me an e-mail thanking me by name.
I hope to update this blog later today with the news of them reaching their goal.
This is the cover of their first CD "What If":

Here's their blistering live set from Singapore from last year:
I love this song of theirs, "Shell":

themusicaddict's Sad Side of Love
Hello,
I'm not sure what it says about me that my list for sad love songs is longer than my happy love song blog. Enjoy!
One of the saddest love songs ever, a song that seems to be about losing a significant other in 9/11. It's a song from my favorite Springsteen CD "The Rising". (Although I'm quite liking "Wrecking Ball" a lot now as well.) "Lonesome Day":
Another similarly themed song from the same CD. This is "You're Missing":
From songs by Springsteen, to a song about Springsteen and certain associations that come with those songs. Eric Church's "Springsteen", one of the greatest country songs ever.
Another one of country music's greatest songs. This song was incredibly popular as I was going through my divorce. It took several months before I could listen to it and it not dredge up a bunch of pain. Lady Antebellum's "Need You Now":
Sticking with the theme of classic country sad love songs, Willie Nelson's "You Were Always On My Mind":
,
A word of advice about divorce, if at all possible avoid it. It can really screw a person up. I've been divorced almost three years and I still have ups and downs. Divorce isn't a decision to be made lightly, please think long and hard before you do it. You don't want any regrets later.
Mark Chesnutt's "Going Through The Big D (And I Don't Mean Dallas)" &"I Just Wanted You To Know". I particularly love "I Just Wanted You To Know", although I relate too well to both songs.
This song describes regrets for both who were once a couple. Hinder's "Lip Of An Angel":
This song is sort of nebulous if it's a sad love song, but it's close enough. Green Day's "I Fought The Law":
A couple of certified classics from much different eras, first up a song from the Hair Metal heydays. Poison's "Ever Rose Has It's Thorn":
Now to the mellow pop sounds of the early 70's, Carly Simon's "Your So Vain":
Parting can be such sweet sorrow. Styx's "Babe":

themusicaddict's Happy Side Of Love
Hello,
I've tried to break out of my normal videos that I post. Anyway these are songs about the happy side of romantic love. This first song contains one of my favorite lines ever from a rock song: "The best of times are when I'm alone with you."
Styx's "The Best Of Times":
I'm actually going to make this section a whole section of mostly happy Styx songs about love. This is one of my favorite love songs of all-time, "Together":
Styx's "Lady":
Again Prince remains resistant to having his music on youtube.com. So until he does I'm going to have to keep on putting these knock off versions on my blog. This band is Soul of Oklahoma and this is their version of "I Would Die 4 U". Their version is serviceable, but in no way does it capture Prince's original version. Prince Rogers Nelson it's about time to join the 21st century in promoting your music.
Back to original versions. Before we found out what a ditz Paula Abdul was on "American Idol", she was America's sweetheart. Abdul had a string of great songs in the late 80s and the early 90s. This is Paula Abdul's "Forever Your Girl":
Pat Benatar's "We Live For Love":
This is one of the best songs from one of the best CDs of the 2000s. The CD is "Good Girl Gone Bad", the song is "Umbrella":
Lonestar's "Amazed":
Another Lonestar song, this is the very joyous "With Me":
Diamond Rio's "One More Day":
Kenny Rogers also has had several amazing love songs, here are a few. This is probably my favorite of all his love songs:
"You Decorated My Life":
"Lady":
I think this is one of the all-time most amazing songs. All I've ever wanted was a woman who believes in me. "She Believes In Me";
Another amazing song is Joe Cocker's "You Are So Beautiful To Me":

Another Lonestar song, this is the very joyous "With Me":
Diamond Rio's "One More Day":
Kenny Rogers also has had several amazing love songs, here are a few. This is probably my favorite of all his love songs:
"You Decorated My Life":
"Lady":
I think this is one of the all-time most amazing songs. All I've ever wanted was a woman who believes in me. "She Believes In Me";
Another amazing song is Joe Cocker's "You Are So Beautiful To Me":

EarlyRise Kickstarter.com Update: 6 Days To Go
Hello,
I just wanted to give a quick update on EarlyRise's Kickstarter.com project. With only 6 days to go, we are now entering severe crunch time. As of February 16th, 2013 early evening the EarlyRise project is now 89% funded. So far they've earned $13.376 of the $15,000 that's their goal. They have 6 days to go, which means they need to average $270 a day to reach their goal.
I've yet to make my contribution, but obviously I'll be doing so within the next 6 days. I hope you join me in funding the recording of EarlyRise's second CD.
Here they are in action live:
Here's a song of theirs that I've never heard:

Happy Valentine's Day!: All Sides of Love
Hello,
I'm not sure what it is but my Valentine's Day has been great so far. I exercised this morning and that put me on a natural high. A natural high that I've remained on even after going to the doctors and then to work. And that feeling has been with me throughout the rest of my day, even though I'm still at work. And although I'm not in a relationship at this point, and not even close honestly, it's still been a great day. Along with the natural high the songs I've heard today were better than they usually were. I know it sounds like I'm in love, but honestly I'm not.
Despite my good feeling I don't want to fill a whole blog with sappy love songs, I've already written those blogs. Also I'll have to admit that there aren't many things better than a great love song. This blog will have some of those love songs, but also songs from all other sides of love. Enjoy and have an amazing Valentine's Day.
I'm starting with the nearly incomparable Adele today. A great voice and I love her off the cuff personality. This is "If It Hadn't Been For Love":
Oh Tracy Chapman where did you go? Her debut album is a Top 500 all-time album for sure. From that CD, this is "For My Lover":
That's enough love songs dealing with spending time in jail, but what are some of the extremes you would go through for the person you love? Would you go 500 miles?
Would you do anything for love?:
Let's hope your love doesn't have regrets, a great song by Celine Dion:
Seriously love shouldn't have regrets:
The bad side of love, more than just having regrets. As Frank Sinatra sings, "regrets, I have a few". So do Skid Row:
Sadly love usually comes with many regrets, Love has many regrets, because there are so many questions involved with love including "Is This Love":
Sometimes those regrets go further than they should, you should never be "Uninvited":
The good sides of love, starting with just the sight of someone that makes your day:
From jail to long journeys we go through for love to the sappy, great time of love. Plain White T's "Hey There Delilah":
"You're The Inspiration":
My favorite love song:
Some of the best love advice ever comes from Depeche Mode. Oh how I wished I would have learned to "Enjoy The Silence" sooner:
Roberta Flack "Killing Me Softly":
Carpenters "Superstar":

NBA Season Blah, MLB Spring Training Right Around The Corner
Hello,
I don't know about you, but this NBA season has been sort of blah for me. The Lakers have received way too much attention, especially when that's relative to their seed in the Western Conference. Right now the Lakers are 10th place in the Western Conference. If the playoffs started today, they'd be watching them on the TV with you and me. But the Lakers are so over hyped, that's how I'm starting this blog off. The Lakers have won 7 of 10 games, but I don't think they scare a whole lot of people. Other than Kobe Bryant who frightens you on the Lakers? And if Bryant is only scoring 4 points in a game, that puts more pressure on his teammates. I suggest that would be the worst case scenario for the Lakers. Would you really wanting Ron Arrest taking the big shot if your season is in the balance. Would you want Dwight Howard at the free throw line in a similar situation?
Do any of their other players frighten you? Howard? Please, he's played so bad this season his Dad felt like he had to come out in the press to defend him. Of course Dad blamed those around Dwight, rather than blaming Dwight for not giving a damn. Does Pau Gasol scare you? The Big Stiffy will miss about 7 more weeks. Even when he's healthy he's one of the slowest players in the NBA. He once was good, but now he's a shadow of his former self. And the only people Ron Arrest scares is Lakers fans, every time he shoots. Over his last 9 games played, he's shot a frosty .304 from the field.
Although I realize the Lakers are playing better of late, I'm still leaving the fork I put in them. They may or may not make the playoffs, but they won't be a serious threat.
My favorite team, the Jazz, are floundering. They win more than they lose, but let's be honest they won't even close to winning the NBA championship this year. Although they did pick up a nice win over the Thunder last night. They will probably make the playoffs, but then likely will be swept in the first round by the Thunder or Spurs.
With the Lakers being overhyped and the Jazz being an afterthought, it's looks like I'll be cheering for the Miami Heat for the third straight playoffs. The Heat are a fun team to watch and I love Dwayne Wade. I know I'm not the only one that thinks the Heat are going through the motions in the regular season. I expect them to turn it on in the playoffs and at least reach their third straight NBA Finals.
Congrats to LeBron James for setting a new NBA record last night. He's the first player to score at least 30 points a game and shoot over 60% in 6 consecutive games. James hit 11 of 15 shots last night. What I love about this streak is that James is playing very efficiently. Too many times NBA players will just keep on jacking up shot after shot, no matter how little success they are having. Allen Iverson was the worst at this, to make it worse he was a terrible shooter. I give props to Kobe Bryant for only taking 8 shots last night. He obviously had a poor shooting night, but he tried to contribute in other ways.
The NBA All-Star game is this Sunday. I don't care or plan on watching it, do you? Dwight Howard said he's going to play as long as he doesn't aggravate his "injury". Of course he's going to play, he loves the spotlight. Whether he's deserving of being an All-Star is another question.
Meanwhile the ridiculous fiasco continues on in Dallas. Jason Garrett will be having a press conference today about all the changes made with coaches this offseason. They are merely arranging chairs on the Titanic. Unfortunately the iceberg remains Jerry Jones' inept ownership and Jason Garrett's less than inspiring coaching. Bring a pillow for Garrett's press conference, his droning delivery can put the most over caffeinated teen to sleep. Thankfully only one more year of his disastrous reign.
ESPN was talking about the Cowboys offseason needs. Well this is the easiest question ever, but I'm not real confident that the Cowboys "brain trust" will come up with the right answers. Obviously the biggest thing that needs to be done is for Jerry Jones to stop thinking that he knows football. Since that's not going to happen, no one brings it up. The next thing that needs to be done is that a real head coach has to be brought in. I'm sorry but 21-19 and no playoffs in 2.5 years just isn't good enough, well at least he used to be not good enough for the Cowboys.
Realistically these are the offseason moves the Cowboys need to do right in order to be a legitimate NFL team again.
1) Once and for all they need to get an effective offensive line and some depth to sustain the quality.
2) They need to start drafting character and non-injury prone players. How many bonehead mistakes do the Josh Brents and Jay Ratliffs of the world have to make before the Cowboys (read: Jerry) realizes these players aren't worth the risk. I love DeMarco Murray, but he can only be counted on for about half the games each season. If he's willing to accept the veteran's minimum I say keep him. However I'm tired of the Cowboys paying a lot of money for potential.
3) Paying for potential is what they'll be doing with Tony Romo very soon. If he was paid for actual performance in the time it matters the most, his contract would be much smaller. Of course I'm talking about the playoffs. He can't have success in the playoffs if he can't even lead the Cowboys there. He'll be signed to an extension sooner rather than later, sadly that's a sure thing . The Cowboys need to find and start developing the quarterback of the future. All you Cowboys homers need to realize that Romo isn't the answer. Dallas won't be relevant again until they have a true top of the line quarterback playing for them, Romo isn't that person.
I don't expect a better than a 8-8 season for the Cowboys next year. For me the main questions for next season will be when will Garrett be fired? And can Jones finally hire his first real head coach since Bill Parcells?
Thankfully I also cheer for the 49ers. Other than San Francisco's run to the Super Bowl, the NBA and the NFL have been sort of blah. However I'm looking forward to MLB being right around the corner. Magic Johnson tweeted out yesterday that pitchers and catchers have reported to the Dodgers spring training. I'm so pumped for this upcoming season. I expect that 3 of my 5 teams will be better this season. I expect the Dodgers, the Red Sox and the Pirates to be significantly improved over last season.
Good luck to the Red Sox especially. They are in the AL East, which is sure to be a bloodbath this season with all the money Toronto spent in the offseason. And I do have one question for the Pirates, why are they paying so much money to the has been washed up for a few years Russell Martin? I expect the Braves to continue playing at their high level. As for the Cubs, well they are the Cubs. Who knows if they'll ever be good again?
I'm still considering posting mostly everyday following the Dodgers this season. The recaps will be short, sort of what I'm doing with the EarlyRise kickstarter.com update blogs now.
Also I do love how much money the Dodgers are willing to be a contender. But just because they have a lot of money doesn't mean they need to spend it all. I'd rather the Dodgers spend wisely, rather than mainly going after the big name players. They certainly don't want to wind up being the Boston Red Sox of last season, although half of that roster seems to be Dodgers now.
I was a bit frightened when I read Jonah Keri's "The 15 Worst Contracts In Baseball" at grantland.com. Keri is a good writer and I've enjoyed reading his work for many years now. However from reading this article it's confirmed the fact that the Dodgers are spending just to spend. The most notable example of this being the trade with the Red Sox. Five years from now I predict that this trade will be considered a big win for the Red Sox, even more so than it is now.
The 4 Dodgers players on Keri's list don't even include the injury prone, expensive Josh Beckett. The numbers in parenthesis are where the players are in Keri's article. 14) Adrian Gonzalez- so many things has to go right for him for this deal to be a break even deal for the Dodgers. I wasn't real excited he only hit 3 homers after coming over in the trade. 13) Brandon League, he just signed this deal this past offseason. This deal was almost instantly derided by baseball insiders. League must have a damn good agent. 8) Juan Uribe- this has to be one of the worst deals ever signed by the Dodgers. If this was the NFL the Dodgers would have cut Uribe long ago. 2) Carl Crawford, after a good early career with the Rays, he never panned out in Boston. He was an extremely expensive, injury prone player in this two seasons in Boston. Getting Crawford was probably the most painful part of LA's big trade with Boston. This part of the deal isn't going to end well. Good thing the Dodgers have deep pockets, let's just hope they spend their money wiser going forward.
FYI: the worst contract on Keri's list was Alex Rodriguez's deal with the Yankees. I love so much that the Yankees still owe him $114 million for 5 more years. That's absolutely priceless.

EarlyRise Kickstarter.com Update
Hello,
As of this morning EarlyRise continues to inch closer to having the $15,000 pledged at Kickstarter.com so that they can record their second album. They are now 73% funded. As of now 258 people have pledged money to this project. They've raised $11,075 so far. They only have 10 days left, they'll need to average a bit less than $400 per day in order to reach their goal. I received my tax refund yesterday so very soon I'll be pledging some money.
Early afternoon update: EarlyRise's potential second CD is now 74% funded and they only need $3,855 to reach the goal of $15,000.
BTW: I have nothing to do with this band, other than being a fan.

Simple Minds, EarlyRise Kickstarter.com Update
Hello,
Just a quick Kickstarter.com update this morning for EarlyRise. As of this morning the money needed for EarlyRise to make their second album is 69% funded. However there's only 12 days left. Since my update from yesterday, there have been 4 more backers and $110 extra in pledges. They still need to come up with $4,602 in the next 12 days though. Please help them.
Also as I've been going through this 80's phase I've been listening to a lot of 80's music on Spotify. One band that has come to mind lately is Simple Minds. Of course they are most famous for this song from "The Breakfast Club":
However they also have a lot of other great songs, although a greatest hits two set disc for them was a bit much.
"All The Things She Said":
"Alive and Kicking":
"Promised You A Miracle":
"Sanctify Yourself":
"Ghostdancing":
And if you want to get the Simple Minds CD that has "All The Things She Said", "Alive and Kicking", "Sanctify Yourself" and "Ghostdancing", it's available on iTunes for $7.99 now.

"Here Comes The Boom", "The Walking Dead", Great Songs (Updated 2/11/13)
Hello,
I watched the Kevin James and Salma Hayek movie "Here Comes The Boom" today. This will sound sappy and sentimental. However the movie is very inspirational and funny. I love the story, the message and the humor. James is so good playing the schlub that shows he's much more than just a fat dude. He and Will Smith were both fantastic in "Hitch", one of the best movies of the 2000's. Salma Hayek is still looking incredible and is a great actress. I love how sassy and spicy she plays her character.
This is the P.O.D. song "Here Comes The Boom":
Throughout this blog I'm going to add songs that I hope are inspiring, helpful or just very good. Just remember to keep those who are close to you in your thoughts and prayers. You never know when they may need a hand or maybe a friendly hug. Those things could be the thing that pulls them back from the brink. To all of my friends and acquaintances I say:
The band EarlyRise is coming into crunch time on their Kickstarter goal to make $15,000. Their pledge cycle ends on February 23rd. They'll only get the money if they raise all $15,000. With the money they would be recording a second album. The band kicks butt and has a great sound. I'd urge you to help them in their cause. If I can figure out a way, I'll be pledging $55 towards their goal. They are offering some pretty cool prizes if you help them. However that's not why we should help them. We should help them because Heaven knows we need more good music in the world now. Let's help this young and upcoming band. This is their song "Memories":
EarlyRise's "Wasteland":
EarlyRise's "Face Me":
Also tonight Season 3's second half of "The Walking Dead" starts. Yes, I'm so excited. I hope that you join me to watch it. I expect more good things from "The Walking Dead" after Season 3's very good first half. My only request is that the Governor-Rick battle ends relatively quickly. This storyline is starting to get boring and would be intolerable for 8 more episodes. I watch this show to see the people vs. zombies battles. I can get people vs. people in nearly every other show.
I also expect the Dixon brothers not be the Governor's prisoners for too long. I'd love to see the Dixon brothers join forces and kick butt.
Keeping with the theme, this is one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite 90's bands. The Cranberries "Zombie":
Casting Crowns' "I Heard The Bells On Christmas Day" (Live):
Also I never thought I'd be one of those who'd play games on Facebook. However they have one game that has my name written all over it, SongPop. I love challenging others who love music to see who is better. I win most of the SongPop games I play. I'm glad I don't win them all as that would get boring very quickly. If you love music and have a few spare minutes SongPop is fun. I take full advantage of the games I can play free. For free you can have 20 SongPop games going on at one time. With free you can only play up to 20 people at one time, which can still take up a surprisingly amount of time.
Also I've discovered and been reminded of some great songs through SongPop. One of the amazing songs I was reminded of by SongPop is Surface's "The First Time":
Other great songs I was reminded of because of SongPop. The Temptations "Stay Just A Bit Longer":
Lou Bega's." "Mambo No. 5":
Miranda Lambert's heart breakingly beautiful "Over You":
I saw the 3D/IMAX "Top Gun" yesterday. It was so good to see in the movie theaters once again. "Top Gun" is a movie that still holds up very well. Definitely a movie that needs to be seen in a theater to be truly appreciated. I love how the music is worked into the scenes. This movie is a master class about how to add music to enhance the movie going experience. That's especially with the songs "Take My Breath Away" and "Danger Zone". And of course "Playing With The Boys" for the completely unnecessary volleytball scene.
Tom Cruise, Val Kilmer, Kelly McGillis and Anthony Edwards lead a solid cast for this movie.
That's one of the best things about so called older movies is that there is actually a story to go with all the action. The script is sexy, funny (especially the interaction between Goose and Maverick) and the flying scenes are amazing. (I'm looking forward to see "Die Hard 5" this weekend, but I'm not really expecting much of a story.)
I'd like to thank for my very attractive friend for going to see it with me. I needed a bit of friendship yesterday.
My only complaint about this movie is the 3D. Isn't seeing a movie in 3D and IMAX too much? I saw "Real Steel" in IMAX and that was an amazing experience, no complaints about that. However the 3D just doesn't work for me. I hate the glasses and for me the 3D doesn't really enhance the movie going experience. I just want to go enjoy a good movie and be entertained. I don't want to deal with awkward glasses or pay the extra expense for the misery of 3D.
I may be writing about Simple Minds more tomorrow, but for now I'm sharing this great song:
Also sometimes the lyrics of a song just captures a moment in time. These lyrics hit home right now for me. Katy Perry's "Wide Awake":
Duran Duran's "Ordinary World":
Another great song from the same album "Come Undone":
The amazing Pink Floyd and "Wish You Were Here";
The incredibly sad "Seasons In The Sun" by Terry Jacks:
One of the many amazing songs from "Rent", "Seasons Of Love";
Peter, Paul and Mary's beautiful "Puff The Magic Dragon". One of the most heartbreaking songs of all-time.

Lakers, The Myth of Tony Romo
Hello,
I was a bit sad that the 49ers lost in the Super Bowl, but I'm glad that they were able to even make it. The 49ers are on an upwards path, I predict their core will win at least one Super Bowl. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't win multiple Super Bowls. Next year San Francisco returns this very solid core, with many players careers still on the upswing. Barring injury they are set at quarterback for the next several years. I don't think Jim Harbaugh is going anywhere any time soon. Although losing in the Super Bowl was disappointing it seems the 49ers are on the doorstep of history with all their potential.
Meanwhile in Dallas the Cowboys continue to be a mediocre franchise ran by a lunatic. Dallas looks like they'll stick by soon to be 33 year old Tony Romo for at least 3 more years. Due to the lack of having a real GM, the Cowboys are going to have to sign Romo to an extension to get some salary cap relief. Dallas is in such a salary cap bind because of stupid moves like trading for Roy Williams. He's the man who counted about $7 million dollars against their cap last season. He was so bad he wasn't even on the Cowboys. The Cowboys also gave up valuable draft picks to get Williams. Great move Jerry.
Romo probably will be making about $14 million a year for basically being a great regular season quarterback. A terrible GM and a slightly above average quarterback, hmm I can't figure out why things haven't worked out for the Cowboys. Again Romo is 1-6 in win or go home games, that one win looks more and more like an aberration with each choke he adds to the losing column.
I don't even think you could consider Romo a Top Ten NFL quarterback any more, even his most ardent fans. Romo may be the worst quarterback in the NFC East. I'd definitely would rather have the dynamic RG3, and Eli Manning. Also Nick Foles is on the upswing. On ESPN Merril Hoge recently rated his Top 5 quarterbacks from a list of 10 names. Romo wasn't one of the 10 names, but Colin Kaepernick made Hoge's top 10 list. Kaepernick has passed Romo in terms of being one of the NFL's better quarterbacks. Kaepernick can win both in the regular season and the postseason.
Names not on Hoge's list of quarterback names include Russell Wilson, Michael Vick and Alex Smith. I'd definitely rather have Wilson than Romo. I'd rather have Romo than Vick and it's not even close. As for Smith or Romo, that's a toss up. Remember that Smith was the NFL's highest rated qb before he suffered the injury that opened the door for Kaepernick.
Romo is both losing respect around the league and also being left behind by many quarterbacks in the NFL. However Romo still has the only person that matters in his corner, Jerry Jones. Sure Jones is the worst GM in all of professional sports, but he also is a billionaire. So he has the money to put behind his stupid decisions. Jones is also incredibly desperate to show his way is right. Remember for Jones, it's not good enough to win, but he has to win his way. Although his way has come up short for going on 17 years now. Also Jones is a desperate owner. His desperation was clear when the 70 year old Jones hired someone, Monte Kiffin, even older than himself.
As a life long Cowboys fan, I've given up on the Cowboys winning another Super Bowl title during Jones' lifetime. Even when he dies I don't have a lot of confidence in his son.
The Lakers have won 6 of 7 games and 3 in a row and their fortunes are looking up. Well that's what their deluded fans are thinking. However clearly not all is right in Lakers land. The Big Stiffy is out 4-6 weeks with an injured foot, will they even miss him? Hilariously Kobe Bryant is wanting Dwight Howard to have some "urgency". This makes me laugh Kobe. Howard doesn't have the same killer instinct like you Kobe. He's just in the NBA because he gets paid a lot of money. Howard is lashing out at his critics, which would take a long time if he was doing that individually.
Seriously when is the NBA going to realize that Howard isn't all that? He relied on his freak athletic skills for so long that he never learned how to be a basketball player. Now that he has to be a basketball player he's not sure how to do that. Also his conditioning doesn't seem to be that good. He seems to be always injured and again he's showing that he's not going to play through pain. Howard is only about himself. Also his limited skills are starting to deteriorate. I think the Lakers and Howard a perfect fit. One can't beat the entertainment or drama coming out of Lakers land.
Now the Lakers go into Boston to take on the Celtics. I'm not a Celtics fan at all, but I'll be cheering for them to beat the Lakers. Speaking of the Celtics, I love that they have won 5 games in a row ever since Rajon Rondo was lost for the season. Rondo is obviously a great player, but from all reports he's a very temperamental player. He seems to be an irritant to his teammates, they tolerate him more than they like him.
I love watching sports, but the great athletes always seem to get a pass. With having little or no consequences sports produces such people as Howard.

The Best Songs The 80s Have To Offer: The Movies (Updated 2/8/13)
Hello,
Of course the following videos are probably more a commercial for the movie than it is about the song.
One of the uber-80's movies is "Top Gun". "Top Gun", now in 3D and IMAX, is returning to movie theaters this Friday. (I love IMAX, but 3D is very lame technology.) It will be in theatres until February 13th. I plan to go see it before it's gone again. I would take my kids too if it wasn't for that one scene.
I look forward to hearing this amazing song blasting out of a primo sound system once again. Here are my three favorite songs from "Top Gun". Kenny Loggins butt kicking "Danger Zone":
And this song is a bit dated, but still one of my favorite lesser known songs from the 80s. Kenny Loggins "Playing With The Boys":
Not only one of the best ballads of the 80s, one of the best ballads ever. Berlin's "Take My Breath Away".
"Footloose" Movie Preview:
It does seem that Kenny Loggins became the king of 80's movie songs. You can't go wrong with Loggins highly infectious "Footloose":
Who can forget one of the most joyous songs ever, Denise Williams "Let's Hear It Boy":
Bonnie Tyler's "Holding Out For A Hero":
One great thing about 80's music is that they sure knew how to write the great love ballad. This is one of the many great ones. Mike Reno's and Ann Wilson's "Almost Paradise":
And I'm not sure what was the best 80's soundtrack. It was either "Pretty In Pink" or "Purple Rain". I'll present songs from each and you can decide. I love every song on "Pretty In Pink", but I'm not going to put them all here. Check out the full soundtrack on Spotify.
Oh boy did I have a big time crush on the lovely Molly Ringwald. I also much preferred the old movie trailers, they were about 90 seconds or less. Now with the 150 second trailers they just give away too much of the story. When I go see a movie now I already know so many plot points and have seen the funny parts already. It makes for a lesser movie going experience. The things we don't know about a movie is what makes it great.
"Pretty In Pink" trailer:
Psychedelic Furs "Pretty In Pink":
Echo and the Moneymen "Bring On The Dancing Horses":
When the Smiths were still together I didn't appreciate them, now I love the Smiths. This was probably my first experience with a Smiths song. "Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want This Time":
Jesse Johnson's "Get To Know Ya":
Belouis Some's "Round, Round":
New Order weren't one of the bigger bands of the 80's, however they had several good songs. Some of their other songs were "Bizarre Love Triangle" and "Blue Monday". This is "Shell Shock":
Then of course probably the most famous song from this movie, OMD's "If You Leave":
I'd thought that Prince had finally loosened his rein on his songs being available on youtube.com. From trying to find songs for this blog, I realized he hasn't eased restrictions for his music on the internet much after all. Prince you are an idiot for not allowing your music on the internet. I couldn't find videos for "Baby I'm A Star", "When Doves Cry" or "Let's Go Crazy".
"Purple Rain" trailer:
"Purple Rain" song:
Janelle Monae's "Take Me With You":
Rihanna's "Darling Nikki":
Nico's Gun "Computer Blue":
See Prince maybe you should allow your music on youtube and not be such a greedy d bag. Maybe someone could remind Prince, that other than 80's stations, they don't play his music on the radio any more.
"Vision Quest" is a movie that sadly has been forgotten. I would highly reccommend you check it out. It is themusicaddict approved. It stars Matthew Modine and lovely Linda Fiorentino. There are also many excellent songs in this movie.
The "Vision Quest" trailer:
Red Rider's (no, they won't shoot your eye out) "Lunatic Fringe":
Sammy Hagar's "I'll Fall In Love Again":
Another one of those amazing 80's killer ballads, this is Madonna's "Crazy For You":
"The Breakfast Club" trailer:
Simple Minds "Don't You Forget About Me":
Another great 80's movie is "Back To The Future", a movie that still holds up. It's trailer:
"The Power Of Love":

The Best Songs The 80's Has To Offer: My Brother (Updated 2/11/13)
Hello,
These are songs that I probably only enjoyed, or maybe even knew about, because of my brother constantly playing them. I'm not sure where he heard all these great songs. Was it through his friends, was it through KCGL, if not where did he hear all these great songs?
Many songs I probably wouldn't have got into unless I heard my brother playing them a bunch of times. This is one of those songs, Oingo Boingo's "Weird Science":
One of the musicians that my brother got into was Terence Trent D'arby. He ended up being a flash in the pan, but he left behind two great songs. The first is "Sign Your Name":
The sumptious "Wishing Well":
He was also into Neneh Cherry, "Buffalo Stance":
"Kisses On The Wind":
"Outre Risque Locomotive": (just a snippet unfortunately)
Just a couple of years after breaking big, the boys of Milli Vanilli were found to be a fake band. That being said this CD still has some of my favorite songs ever. For instance, "Blame It On The Rain":
and "Girl You Know It's True":
"Girl, I'm Gonna Miss You":
I remember one bald female singer that he liked, it was someone who had just released her debut CD. Now that I look back, I see how much of a classic "The Lion and the Cobra" is, but I didn't get it then. Just a few years later this bald went on to have her biggest hit "Nothing Compares To U". Of course I'm talking about the great Sinead O'Conner.
I have no idea how many times I heard "like a phoenix from the flames" coming out of my brother's bedroom. Here's O'Connor very raw take of "Troy":
Other great songs from "The Lion and The Cobra" include "Just Like U Said It Would B":
"Mandinka":
"I Want Your (Hands On Me)": (Sorry for the lame MC Lyte rapping, I'd never heard this song with her rapping before.)
And anytime I write about Miss O'Connor, I have to include her very cathartic divorce song. If divorce had a theme song, this would be it. Which version do you like best? "The Last Day of Our Acquaintance":
A different live version?:
Or the original studio version?:
A couple more quick songs, Jane Child's "Don't Wanna Fall In Love":
Finally one of those weird bands that was heard on KCGL and blasting out of his bedroom. This is some of the best songs of The Thompson Twins. All these songs are on their classic "Into The Gap" CD. Starting with what may be my favorite Thompson Twins song "You Take Me Up":
"Into The Gap":
"Hold Me Now":
"Doctor Doctor":

The Best Music The 80's Has To Offer: MTV (Updated 2/7/13)
Hello,
Kids I know you'll find this hard to believe but MTV used to really be about music television. MTV was very relevant to the culture of America before it disintegrated into the reality TV fiasco it is now. Many bands broke out big because of play on MTV. People like Madonna, Michael Jackson, George Michael, Dire Straits and many others took full advantage of the visual aspect of television.
Many bands that would have been big anyway increased their following because of their wise use of MTV. Many bands who probably would have never broke out before MTV, did with the help of MTV. They were able to create the videos that captured America. I remember how excited I use to be by World Premiere Videos.
This was before the internet. So we were basically held hostage by MTV if we wanted to see a video. That is unless we had recorded it on a VHS. We just couldn't go see a video anytime, it had to wait until MTV or some other station showed it. But for the most part MTV was the only game in town.
I was a sophomore in high school when I first saw MTV. The first song ever played on MTV and also an amazing song: The Buggles "Video Killed The Radio Star":
Other songs that I probably only knew about because of MTV. Sadly I couldn't find the original video for Thomas Dolby's "She Blinded Me With Silence":
Midnight Oil's "Beds Are Burning":
Boom Crash Opera's "Onion Skin":
Would Til' Tuesday ever broken out without this video or would Aimee Mann be as liked today as she is?
C + C Music's Factory "Gonna Make You Sweat" (Everybody Dance Now)": The vixen who looks like she's singing the song um really isn't.
Another band that was helped a lot by MTV was The Human League. "Don't You Want Me":
"Human":
Songs that artists used to increase their following. This is the first video I think of when I think about this. Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean":
Madonna was also very clever about using MTV to increase her following. Madonna's "Live To Tell":
is
This is one conversation I don't want to have with my daughter. One of my favorite videos from the entire 80s, Madonna's "Papa Don't Preach":
Not exactly the greatest video ever, but this does capture the whole Madonna craze when it was at it's peak. This is also one of my favorite Madonna songs, "Dress You Up":
This was one of the most striking videos to appear on MTV in the 80s. The Eurythmics "Sweet Dreams Are Made Of These":
The smart established artist took full advantage of MTV. Bruce Springsteen, already an established star with a devoted following, wisely used MTV's exposure. With a young Courtney Cox, Springsteen exploded on to MTV with "Dancing In The Dark":
U2 was a band that broke big almost in spite of their lack of presence on MTV. Of course they made videos, but not one video jumps to mind when I think of U2. That is except "Sunday Bloody Sunday". U2 went to Red Rocks in Colorado and decided to play in very cold weather. They captured lightning in a bottle and this is U2 as they headed towards international fame.
One band that might surprise you that took full advantage of MTV's reach is ZZ Top. They made a series of now iconic videos. Here are a few:
"Gimme All Your Lovin'":
I can't find the original video for "Legs", this is the best I could find:
I can't find the original video for "Sharp Dressed Man" either: (The fact that Nickelback covered this song in concert is disgraceful. Nickelback perhaps is the worst big name rock band ever.)
This isn't my favorite ZZ Top video from that era, however it's my favorite of their songs from that era.
"Stages":
Another band that took full advantage of MTV's visual capabilities is Whitesnake. They used sex in the twirling, dancing body of Tawny Kataen:
"Here I Go Again":
This song seriously kicks some butt, although it owes more than a big thanks to Led Zeppelin. "Still Of The Night":
"Is This Love":
