Hello,
Zack Greinke made his Dodger debut last night, his pitch count is limited after a light spring training workload. With the Dodgers paying him $147 million over the next 6 years they don't want to take any chances. In the past the Dodgers have paid a lot of money to some starting pitchers who didn't live up to their contracts. Darren Driefort, anyone?
Although on a limited pitch count, Greinke still threw 92 pitches. On those 92 pitches, he threw 56 for strikes. He pitched 6.1 innings, only giving up two hits and 0 walks and striking out 6 Pirates. Overall a decent, and reassuring start, for both Greinke and the Dodgers.
Greinke is one of the many Dodgers with questionable contracts, so let's hope this is his first win on his way to a 20 win season. Brandon League, another questionable contract, earned his first save of the year.
Four games into the season Andre Ethier hit his first home run and Adrian Gonzalez had his first RBI. Two more contracts that I'm glad I'm not responsible to pay. The Dodger with the most questionable contract, Carl Crawford, had 0 hits in 4 at bats. He also struck out twice, which isn't good when he's the Dodgers' leadoff hitter.
Matt Kemp also got his first hit after an 0-12 start, he's one of the few Dodger contracts I feel good about.
The Dodgers are now 2-2 on the season and currently are 4th place in the NL West. They trail the first place three headed monster of San Francisco, Arizona and Colorado.
What's next: Clayton Kershaw will pitch again tonight, following his amazing first start. For the Pirates, the starting pitcher is Yankees expat A.J. Burnett. Let's see if he can repeat the success he had in his first season as a Pirate.
