Getting To Know Your Shockers 3: The Key Players

Hello,

Who are the key players for the NCAA upstarts the Wichita State Shockers? The following stats are from the NCAA Official Tournament Program.

The Shockers regular season leading scorers are:

1) Cleanthony Early: 13.6 points a game
2) Carl Hall: 12.8 points a game
3) Malcolm Armstead: 10.4 points a game

The Shockers regular season rebounding leaders:

1) Carl Hall: 7.2 rebounds a game
2) Cleanthony Early: 5.1 rebounds a game
3) Ehimen Orukpe: 4.5 rebounds a game

The Shockers regular season leaders in assists:

1) Malcolm Armstead: 4.0 assists a game
2) Demetric Williams: 2.4 assists a game
3) Fred Van Vleet 2.3 assists a game

The Shockers regular season leaders in blocks:

1) Ehimen Orukpe: 1.7 blocks per game
2) Carl Hall: 1.6 blocks per game
3) Cleanthony Early: 0.9 blocks per game

Class as of this season:

Freshmen: Derail Green, Zack Bush, Fred Van Vleet and Ron Baker. Van Vleet and Baker play a lot now so it looks like the Shockers have a bright future.

Sophomores: Even Wessel, Jake White and Tekele Cotton. Cotton, the 6-2 guard, is one of my favorite players on the Shockers.

Juniors: Chadrick Lufile, Nick Wiggins and Cleanthony Early. Early, the Shockers leading scorer and rebounder, presumably will be back for one more season. So with Van Vleet, Baker, Cotton and Early the Shockers should be able to make some noise again next season.

Seniors: Demetric Williams, Kadeem Coleby, Ehimen Orukpe, Carl Hall and Malcolm Armstead. Mr. Armstead is another one of my favorite Shockers. He has been a steadying presence during the Shockers run and will be sorely missed next season. The Shockers will also miss Hall's scoring and rebounding.

Tomorrow: the city of Wichita.
