2013 Dodgers Daily, April 7th: Gonzalez's Breakout?, Red Sox, Will Middlebrooks Breaks Out

Hello,

For the first time all season the Dodgers offense was able to score more than 5 runs, the Dodgers won the game 6-2. Meanwhile the offensively struggling Pirates remained pathetic. With the Pirates exploding for 2 runs today, they are averaging 1.3 runs per games this season. Andrew McCutchen hit a two run homer today for the Pirates in the first inning. The Pirates didn't score another run in the rest of the game. That means they've only scored once in their last 27 innings. I think the Dodgers have decent pitching, but it's not the only factor in the Pirates inept offense. I'm not sure what the Pirates can do to have a better offense.

Starling Marte had two more hits today, raising his batting average to .261.

Carl Crawford continues his hot streak, he had two more hits today. He's now hitting .450 on the season. Adrian Gonzalez seems to be finding his stoke a bit. He had three more hits today and is now hitting 8 for 20, .400 this season. Matt Kemp got his second hit of the season and is now 2 for 20, a batting average of .100.

The Dodgers are now 4-2 on the season and still are third place in the NL West. They trail the Rockies and Diamondbacks by one game as the NL West co-leaders are both 5-1.

Upcoming: the Dodgers have Monday off.

Meanwhile in Toronto the Red Sox steamrolled the Blue Jays 13-0. The Red Sox offense was rolling today. Boston ended up hitting 6 home runs, led by Will Middlebrooks 3 jacks. Middlebrooks hit his second, third and fourth home run of the season today. Daniel Nava, Jacoby Ellsbury and Mike Napoli also added home runs today. Like Clayton Kershaw, Jon Lester is pitching at a high level. He has also won both of this games he has pitched this season so far.

At 4-2 Boston is all alone in first place in the AL East. It's only 6 games into the season, so that 4-2 start doesn't mean a whole lot. Probably even the worst team in MLB, Houston?, will compile a 4-2 record over a 6 game period sometime during the season. Houston was moved from the National League to the American League in the offseason. The Astros are the team that has a smaller payroll than does Alex Rodriguez all by himself. Houston, welcome to the AL West so that you can get punched in the face by the A's, Rangers, Angels and Mariners all season long.

But out of my teams, the one that is doing the best is the Braves. Atlanta is now 5-1 on the season. I expect them to be battling with the Nationals all season long. The battle has already started as Washington is only one game back at 4-2.
