The Non-Thrilling Chase For the NBA's Western Conference 8th Seed Race Continues, The Knicks: Please

Hello,

Good thing nobody reads this blog or I'd have to be worry about what David Stern would say about it. I'm going to mock the alleged race for the NBA's Western Conference 8th seed. ESPN referred to it as "Lakers Playoff Push". I think they met that literally. The only push the Lakers will receive is when the #1 seed pushes and sweeps them out of the playoffs. Games from last night the Jazz lost and the Lakers won. To no one's surprise the Thunder came into SLC and slapped around the Jazz, winning 90-80. Meanwhile Kobe had to put the wilting Lakers on his back and carry LA to a victory over the terrible Hornets (27-51).

The Jazz are now 41-38 and have 3 more games to play. Meanwhile the Lakers are 41-37 and have 4 more games to play. Although I'm a Jazz fan, I'm hoping the Lakers win the 8th seed. Of course that's also is what the NBA wants, so they can market the hell out of them. The Jazz getting eliminated before the playoffs would be great, hopefully the Jazz would start working on a complete roster revamp. Also I'd love to see the Lakers get swept by either the Spurs or Thunder. I'd enjoy seeing the Lakers lose as Kobe Bryant would have to continue saying nice things about Dwight Howard.

Oh and I'm sure Lakers Nation was "excited" that the Artest formerly known as Ron was back from his injury. Artest was in midseason form as he got a technical. In other news the Lakers are excited that they can dump Artest at the end of this season.

And to the next idiot I hear say that no one wants to play the Lakers in the playoffs, shut up. LA isn't firing on all cylinders, the Lakers are only 5-5 over their last 10 games. LA is a poorly constructed team and has a coach that doesn't know how to make them better. Kobe seems to still have that killer instinct, but I think for the most part the rest of the Lakers are planning their summer vacations. Howard is counting down to when he doesn't have to play basketball any more. He only does it now because he gets paid so much. But by his free throw shooting, it's obvious he doesn't work on his game in the offseason. I so hope the Lakers don't learn their lesson and bring Howard back with a long, expensive contract.

Meanwhile another team that's getting hyped to ridiculous levels is the Knicks. Never has a team that won 13 straight games meant so little. The Knicks love reminds me a lot of the 8th seed in the Western Conference chase. People are focusing on both now, but eventually the Jazz, Lakers or Knicks aren't going to matter. None of those teams are going to play in the NBA Finals or even the conference finals. In the Eastern Conference again it's Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs, with the Knicks being Grumpy (or is it Dopey?). The Knicks have won 13 games in a row, but still are 10 games behind the Heat in the Eastern Conference. The Knicks are scraping for victories while the Heat are resting their players. Do you think the Terminator Heat are even slightly worried about the Knicks? Neither do I.

But congrats to the Knicks for winning their first division title since 1994. Hopefully they at least get a bracelet for what will be their biggest accomplishment this season. Let's cheer for Carmelo Anthony to win the scoring title, at least that way he'll be able to say he won one title in his career.

Why are people still talking the Ed Rush/Pac 12 referee debacle? That was when Rush would give the Pac 12 referees an incentive to give Sean Miller a technical. Rush insists he was joking. But isn't this the same Ed Rush that use to be an NBA ref? A requirement to be can NBA ref is to not have a sense-of-humor, obviously he wasn't joking. Also America doesn't have dictators, so that personality type becomes NBA referees. Such mental midgets as Rush, Joey Crawford and Steve Javie have been NBA refs.

I can't wait until the Masters is over, what a lame event. I especially hate the reverent way Jim Nantz et. al talk about and during the Masters. It's just a dumb golf tournament. I love that they call the event The Masters, talk about truth in advertising. Was The Rich, White Guys Tournament name already taken? The only thing more appropriate would be to call it Masters/Sexists after just barely allowing female members.

On my drive home Monday Bill and Hans were talking about where the Masters ranked in their top sports events of the year. Unbelievably Hans said it was his second ranked event, second? I'm more in line with Bill in that the Masters ranks very low. Just off the top of my head events I'm more interested in include March Madness, the Super Bowl, the NLCS and ALCS Championships, the World Series, the World Cup, the Summer and Winter Olympics, the NBA Playoffs, competitive checkers and cow turd tossing. I can't think of a scenario in which I'd willingly watch the Rich, White Guys Tournament.
