Hello,
Last night was the Dodgers second game of the season, San Francisco shut out the Dodgers 3-0. The Giants had their own masterful pitching performance last night. Madison Bumgarner only gave up 2 hits in 8 innings. He had 6 strikeouts and threw an incredible 76 strikes in 101 pitches. Giants closer, Sergio Romo, pitched a hitless 9th inning. (As a very frustrated fan of the Dallas Cowboys, it's good to see at least one Romo can perform in the clutch.)
Hyun-Jin Ryu made his major league debut last night for the Dodgers. Ryu will be paid $61.9 million to pitch for the Dodgers. Ryu had a decent, if not spectacular debut. He pitched 6.1 innings, scattered 10 hits while giving up only one earned run. I'm hoping all the hits he gave up are due to nervousness and not pitching issues. He also struck out 5 Giants. Ryu had a 2.69 ERA in his two seasons in the Korean Baseball Organization.
If and when Dodgers starting pitching is at full health, Ryu probably won't be their second starter. He'll likely be the third or fourth starter. The second starter will probably be Zack Greinke. Greinke is currently battling a "tender elbow". Another key Dodgers starter, Chad Billingsley, is currently on the DL. It appears he'll be making a rehab start for the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes tomorrow night. He should be making his Dodgers regular season debut either April 10th or April 13th. Billingsley may or may not be the Dodgers fifth starter.
I enjoyed listening to the announcing team of Bob Costas and Jim Kaat. I knew Costas is a huge baseball fan, but was surprised that he's working regional broadcasts for the MLBN. As a big Dodgers and baseball fan, I'm extremely jealous.
What's next: Tonight is the last game in the season opening 3 game series between the Dodgers and the Giants. Similar to last night's game, the first pitch will be about 10:00pm EST. The TV gods have granted the Dodgers another national TV appearance, the game will be broadcast on ESPN. LA will be sending costly Red Sox cast off Josh Beckett to the mound. He'll be facing two time Cy Young award winner Tim Lincecum. Lincecum was a dominating pitcher for the early part of his career, however he has struggled the last year or so.
Currently the Dodgers, at 1-1, are tied for first place in the NL West. They are tied for first with the Giants, Rockies and Diamondbacks.
