Carmelo Anthony: The Only Time He'll Be Mentioned In The Same Breath As Jordan, Introducing The Meads Metric NBA Playoff Notes

Hello,

I had to laugh at Carmelo Anthony's 10 for 35 shooting this past Sunday. This is from ESPN.com via Elias Sports Bureau.

"Carmelo Anthony made only 10 of his 35 field-goal attempts in the New York Kicks' Game 4 loss to the Boston Celtics on Sunday. Over the past 46 years, only two other players have missed at least 25 shots from the field in an NBA playoff game: New Jersey's John Williamson shot 9-for-34 from the field against Philadelphia on April 13, 1979, and Chicago's Michael Jordan made only nine of his 35 field goal attempts against Miami on May 26, 1997."

The above paragraph is the only time that Carmelo Anthony will be mentioned in the same breath as Michael Jordan. I'm not a big fan of either Jordan or Anthony, but Jordan is 100 times the player Anthony is.

Anthony is shooting .407 this series against the Celtics. The Knicks will be able to get away with it because the Celtics can't score. If Rajon Rondo is at full strength I predict that the Celtics win this series. How in the hell did the Celtics allow Ray Allen to get away? What were they thinking? Please tell me they didn't really think that Jason Terry could take Allen's place. If they did they are getting what they deserved. It makes me laugh that Terry is shooting .438 this series, better than Anthony.

I use a metric to see how good of a game a player plays. For every free throw or shot from the field, a NBA player should score at least one point per shot. That's due to some made baskets being worth 3 points. I call it the Meads Metric.

Comparing Anthony to a true NBA Superstar is laughable. I'll compare Anthony's Game 4 stats to  real superstar LeBron James Game 4. James was 13-20 from the field as he scored 30 points. James shot 27 shots total and scored 30 points. He was over 100% on the Meads Metric. James also had 8 rebounds, 7 assists and 3 steals as the Heat were 16 points better with James on the floor. James also had 5 turnovers and was only 4-7 from the free throw line.

Again Carfailo was 10 of 35, including 0-7 from the 3 point line. Anthony scored 36 points. how did Anthony do on the Meads Metric on Sunday? He shot 55 total shots and only scored 36 points. That's a pathetic 65% efficiency rate. Thankfully for Anthony he was rescued by the refs, he was sent to the line an astonishing 20 times. Yes that's in one game. He converted 16 of 20 free throw attempts. He also added 7 rebounds and what I'm guessing his a career high for assists: 2. He also had one steal. The amazing Anthony also had 7 turnovers and his team was outscored by 10 points when Anthony was on the floor.

I do wonder how Anthony will play when the Knicks #2 scorer is back Wednesday night. Anthony should be so glad J.R. Smith will be back. Or will he be mad because that will be less shots he gets? I expect Anthony's Meads Metric to be much better in Game 5.

Note: I haven't seen anyone else do a stat similar to the Meads Metric, in spite of that I'm sure someone already uses it. It's a stat that I'm working on and trying to smooth out the rough edges.

For all those people that say "yeah but J.R. Smith didn't play and also the Heat are a much better team". Both of those statements are true, but I know that Anthony can easily stop being such a selfish player. With the opponents defense focused on shutting down Anthony, how much more effective of a team player he could be. If he averaged 5 assists a game Knicks opponents wouldn't be able to focus on him so much. Then in terms of scoring he could be a much better player and the Knicks could be a better team. Also it wouldn't hurt Anthony to play occasional defenseI know that Anthony won't do either though. Honestly when ever I watch Anthony "play", I'm always surprised when he passes.

Am I the only one that feels like all these early playoff rounds are a waste of time? Are the Grizzilies-Clippers, Nets-Bulls or even Knicks-Celtics series going to be relevant in a few weeks? Has an Eastern Conference team done anything to show that they'll challenge the Heat to make the NBA Finals? For me the answers are no and no. The Heat dominated the Bucks so easily that that series felt like a bye to me. I don't see the Heat losing any more than 1 or 2 games before the NBA Finals. With the injury of Russell Westbrook it seems it's going to be a Spurs-Heat Finals.
