The Rot of Jerry Jones Ownership Continues (Updated 12/10/12)

Hello,

Sadly yesterday Dallas Cowboys practice squad player Jerry Brown was killed in an one car accident. The driver of the vehicle was Cowboys linebacker Josh Brent. Brent currently is in prison and should be for awhile. This isn't his first trouble with drunk driving. Brent received a warning on February 21, 2009. He was arrested that night, then in June of the same year he was sentenced to 60 days in jail and two years probation. He was released after serving only half of the time.

However the Cowboys in their misguided attempt to remain relevant in the NFL took a chance on Brent. Even though he had this arrest and academic issues at Illinois, the Cowboys still signed him. I'm all for giving a guy a second chance, perhaps the Cowboys should have taken more precautions with him though. Obviously Brent should have never got behind the wheel drunk.

Many times the Cowboys are forced to sign these questionable players because of Jones poor drafting. Unfortunately signing most of these players many times leads to more issues. For instance, the death of  another person.

All this rot goes back to the feet of Jerry Jones. Jerry you quite simply need to step down as GM and key decision maker of the Cowboys. Jones has done a terrible job as GM and I have no faith that Jones will improve in the future. He constantly makes the wrong decisions in drafting. Many times he picks the flashy player rather than the best player available.

Jerry just like in your oil business would you keep on trying to get oil out of a hole that has run dry? No. You move on to another place to drill for oil, right? Well you as a GM has run dry, you need to fire yourself as GM. You haven't been very good at it ever, you coasted on Jimmy Johnson's coat tails for a couple of years. Then ever since then the Cowboys have been a non-factor in the playoffs, only winning one playoff game in 17 years.  You owe Cowboys fans your retirement and someone that really knows football. It's time to do whatever you need to do to bring in Sean Payton and get the hell out of his way.

Let's hope the Bengals stomp the Cowboys today and the Cowboys will finally start rebuilding once and for all. I'm tired of the Cowboys being such a mediocre team.

Somehow the Cowboys eked out a 1 point victory over the Bengals. This was a game between two very mediocre teams. The Bengals didn't have to punt until the late third quarter, but they also weren't lighting up the scoreboard. Four times they had to settle for field goals, instead of scoring a touchdown. Those missed 16 points really came back to hurt the Bengals. I'm not sure how it happened, but Dallas pulled out the victory.

I can honestly say I've never been more disappointed with a victory. I still don't think Dallas is going to make the playoffs. But it looks they'll come awful close. Although it's obvious the Cowboys are a long ways from competing for the Super Bowl, this off season they'll like only make cosmetic changes. And the result will be another about .500 season.

The Cowboys winning yesterday is perhaps the worst thing that could happen to them. That increases the chances that Garrett will be back next season and lessens the chances that the Cowboys can sign Sean Payton to be their new head coach.

Also on December 10th came the news about a Jones-Jay Ratliff locker room confrontation. According to ESPN Dallas Jones confronted Ratliff and "encouraged" him to return from his groin injury quicker. It seems that Ratliff yelled at and then had to be separated from Jones by other players. Part of me wishes he would have punched Jones. But part of me is glad he didn't punch him.

Jones is one of the most loathsome owners in professional sports and has been riding the coattails of Jimmy Johnson's Super Bowls success for way too long now. Sadly Cowboys fans will be stuck with him until he dies. Then his son will take over. It's a terrible time to be a Cowboys fan and will continue on for the foreseeable future.
