Hello,
The Dodgers won their second of three games against the New York Mets. LA is on a historic roll, is it going to continue or is the bottom going to drop out? LA has won 7 games in a row and have one more game before getting a much needed day off. Again LA is doing all of this without the help of Matt Kemp and Hanley Ramirez.
Hyun-Jin Ryu continues a personal streak of note, he has won 6 consecutive games. Although I'm rarely overwhelmed by him when I see him pitch, he must be incredibly crafty. If he could find a way to limit the number of hits he gives up, then he'd be even more unstoppable. On Wednesday Ryu gave up 5 hits, but only 1 run, in 7 innings. He improves to 12-3 on the season and has a 2.91 ERA. Will he start getting more Cy Young or Rookie of the Year mentions?
The Diamondbacks won another meaningless win on Tuesday, but remain 7.5 games behind LA in the NL West. Arizona has a 17.8% chance of reaching the playoffs, but let's be honest they are done.
LA has risen to 15th place in MLB for runs scored. Interestingly enough the Dodgers have scored 10 runs fewer than the Diamondbacks, yet LA leads Arizona in the NL West. It shows how good of a pitching staff LA has and it also shows how few runs LA scored the first 1/3rd of the season.
Of my other teams, Boston, Pittsburgh and Atlanta are all in first place. The Red Sox are 72-49, have a 94.9% chance of reaching the playoffs and lead the AL East. They lead the Rays, who've lost 6 games in a row, by 4 games. One of my other teams is the Baltimore Orioles, they are in third place in the AL East. However they are fading a bit. Baltimore is 65-54, trails Boston by 6 games and has a 36.8% chance of reaching the playoffs.
Pittsburgh remains in first place in the NL Central, although they've lost 4 games in a row. Pirates fans it's still not time to panic! Pittsburgh is 70-48, has a 96.5% chance of reaching the playoffs and lead the NL Central. Second place St. Louis trails Pittsburgh by 2 games. The third place Reds are lingering, they only trail the Pirates by 3.5 games.
Atlanta is 73-47, 99.9% chance of reaching the playoffs and continue to run away from the NL East. The second place Nationals have won 4 consecutive games and still trail the Braves by 14 games. The Nationals have a 3.1% chance to reach the playoffs, maybe next year Washington.
Oakland is in second place in the AL West, they are 1 game behind the blisteringly hot Rangers. In the NL Central the Cubs are tied for third place with Milwaukee. With 4 first place teams, this has been a banner year for me as a baseball fan.
