Dodgers Daily, August 28th, 2013 Dodgers Shut Out Cubs, Nolasco's Big Game

Hello,

In the finale of their series the Dodgers shut down the Cubs 4-0, LA won 2 of the 3 games in the series. Ricky y pitched a great game for the Dodgers, he pitched 8.0 innings, giving up 3 hits and no runs. He also had 11 strikeouts in his very encouraging start. Nolasco improves to 11-9 and has a 3.26 ERA.

Hanley Ramirez had the big hit, hitting his 15th homer of the season.

With LA winning and Arizona losing, LA again leads them by 9.5 games.

The Dodgers also signed Edinson Volquez, who was designated for assignment Saturday by the Padres. He's 9-10 and has a 6.01 ERA this season.

The Atlanta Braves are the first team to clinch a playoff spot. Atlanta leads St. Louis and the Dodgers by 2.5 games for best record in the NL and home field advantage up to the World Series.

Twelve teams so far have been eliminated from playoff contention. Those teams are the Giants, Padres, Cubs, Brewers, Marlins, Mets, Astros, Mariners, Angels, White Sox, Twins and Blue Jays. a teams include the defending World Series champs Giants. The teams also include both teams from Chicago, does either Chicago team a chance the next few years? Also paying Josh Hamilton $125 million for 5 years guarantees you absolutely nothing. I still expect Hamilton's contract to do down as one of the all-time worst contracts ever. It will be up there with ARods and Ryan Howard.
