Kate Nash, Desolation of Dallas

This is my friend's book, he's trying to draw attention to a book he has written. Check it out on facebook. Here's the link: http://www.facebook.com/#!/group.php?gid=304984697029 He describes the book as: "I've written a novel called “Wilderness” which I'm sending out to agents (think "Calvin and Hobbes" written by Neil Gaiman)" He also says "one who friends the group will get any messages from me, they will just be helping a young aspiring novelist." I think that's a worthy cause.

Hello,

You may remember Kate Nash from this song:

She's back with this song, which has the same theme and dark sense-of-humor:

This is my new theme song, it played on my iPod this morning while I was exercising. This is one of the best songs by Three Days Grace, who I'll be seeing tomorrow night with Buckcherry.

A quick TV update. Last night I watched "The Event" again. My review in one word: Meh. One Monday something is going to be more interesting than watching that show. That will cause me to break the habit of watching that show. Then I'll just probably stop watching it completely. It just doesn't hold my attention, I was bored last night watching it.

Also "Hawaii Five-0" continues to be an okay show. You can take it or leave it. That's the same thing with "Blue Bloods". That show is just so serious, that's a real turn off for me. Unless I'm really bored one night I also have given up on "Undercovers". It's a take it or leave it show also, at this time I've decided to leave it.

Then with "Mad Men" and "Rubicon" on hiatus until next summer, that means my favorite show now is "No Ordinary Family". Besides "Rubicon" it's the best new show of the season. You definitely need to check it out if you haven't seen it. You can catch up at abc.com.

Then "Smallville" and "Caprica" hasn't interested me enough to check them out. I did watch the first "Smallville", but it's definitely not much watch TV.

The Wade Watch continues, owner Jerry Jones says he won't fire Wade Phillips in the middle of the season. Why not? That means Wade you need to step up, accept the blame for your bad coaching and quit. Then Jerry you need to man up and go out and get Bill Cowher or Jon Gruden and pay whatever is needed to bring them in. Don't even try to salvage this season, just start building for the future. Use the regular season to find what players fit into the new coaches system. Then use the draft and the off season to find complimentary players. Obviously the highest priorities are quarterback and offensive linemen.

Reading Matt Mosley's chat at espn.com today, he wrote that the other coach considered when Wade was hired was Norv Turner. Norv Turner? Turner is another coach that's a great coordinator but shouldn't be head coach. It's the Peter principle in effect. What that is is that you'll get promoted to one job position above what you are qualified for. This is Turner's record as an NFL head coach.

I borrowed/ stole the above standings from wikipedia.org. As ESPN says, "let's look inside the numbers".

Norv Turner has been the head coach of three different NFL teams and his record isn't even mediocre. Seriously Jones you'd even consider hiring this coach? Remember how much you clamored and spent to get Jason Garrett as an offensive coach. How did that work out for you Jerry? $3 million for Garrett the last couple of seasons? I know that Turner had great success as the offensive coordinator when he was with the Cowboys, but that doesn't mean he should come back as the head coach. Now if you had a good head coach and your coordinators were Phillips and Turner I would say what a great staff.

From 1994-2000 Turner was the head coach of the Washington Redskins, 7 years. Turner's team had a winning record 4 of his 7 seasons. Their record in that time overall: 49-59-1. That's a .454 winning percentage. His Redskins teams won 1 of 2 playoff games.

Then for 2004 and 2005 he was the head coach of the Oakland Raiders, and frankly they sucked with him as head coach. (Of course the Raiders have been terrible for many years now.) In his two seasons as head coach he was 9-23. That's a .281 winning percentage. (The way the Cowboys are playing and with their coaching staff .281 might look good at the end of the season.) Neither season was a winning season.

Since 2007 Turner has been the head coach of the San Diego Chargers. This record includes up to games through this last weekend. Turner's Chargers are 34-19, but only 2-3 this season. Overall that's a .642 winning record. San Diego has had 2 of the 3 seasons have been winning seasons. The Chargers are 3-3 in the playoffs. They even made it to the AFC Championship game in 2007. Last season they went 13-3 in the regular season but lost in their first game of the playoffs. That's the same feat that Phillips pulled off in 2007. (No wonder ESPN's Sports Guy makes fun of those two coaches so much, of course both are easy targets.)

Overall Turner's teams are 92-101-1, a .482 winning percentage. His teams are 4-4 in the playoffs. (Of course that looks amazing compared to Phillips 1-5 playoff record. I know that stat is amazing. Phillips has taken 5 teams to the playoffs? Wow!) So far 6 of his 12 seasons have been winning seasons. This season looks like a toss up whether it will be a winning season.

Jones it's not acceptable to replace one mediocre coach with another mediocre coach. Of course your ego takes precedence over the quality of the team. That's why Jimmy Johnson and you parted ways, although he was winning you Super Bowls. That's why you've hired Barry Switzer, Dave Campo and Wade! Yes I realized Barry Switzer won a Super Bowl, but that was with Jimmy Johnson's players. Switzer knew enough to stay out of the way.
