Wade Phillips is finally fired!, How to tell if an NFL owner is good.

Hello,

This is what I wrote in my blog from last night: Dallas is now 1-7 after losing to Green Bay 45-7. If Jones doesn't fire Wade Phillips now, what is it going to take? 12 men on the field, players not executing proper blocks putting their quarterbacks in harm's way repeatedly etc. All those things lead back to poor coaching. It's time to bring in a new head coach immediately. There's nobody on this staff qualified to be a head coach.

Possible replacements: Jason Garrett as head coach, he can't even coach the offense. John Fox, seriously what is up with repeatedly hiring these used up white middle age head coaches. Fox is the coach of the Carolina Panthers, they are 1-7 this season so far. I liked Chris Collinsworth's idea tonight. He suggested Dallas go out and get the Giants Defensive Coordinator Perry Fewell. The only problem with him is the Dallas would have to wait until next season before they could have him. But Dallas could get Jon Gruden or Bill Cowher now. Hmm.

But if nothing else is done Phillips must be fired now. I want to wake up in the morning and hear that he has been fired.

Today: Fortunately Wade Phillips has finally been fired. Jones is worrying about the collective bargaining agreement. Now that he has finally fired Phillips and doesn't need to pay Jason Garrett anymore.

While I understand that, I also understand this: The Dallas Cowboys suck and are getting worse each week. At the rate the Cowboys are playing right now, they are in for a 1-15 season. Do you want to continue on that downward trend Jerry? Fire Jason Garrett now! Jerry who's the idiot who signed Wade Phillips to a 2 year contract? Yep that's you. Why did you lock him up for a two year contract, no other team wanted him. Again it's Jerry ego getting in the way. He'd rather have the fame and attention than win Super Bowls now apparently. His hiring of Jason Garrett shows that yet again. Now I'm going to start the countdown of Jason Garret's head coaching career and the end of this miserable season.

I think I've figured out why it took so long for Jones took so long to fire Phillips. I'm speculating that it's because he hopes that Phillips would bounce back and lead this team far into the playoffs. Then Jerry would look like a genius. Unfortunately the length of time it took to fire Phillips, the opposite effect took place. This team is on a downward spiral to nowhere.

Update, apparently Wade Phillips has been fired finally, but I'm not sure if the situation is any better. He has promoted Jason Garrett to head coach. How is that an improvement? Talk about taking over the team in an impossible situation. Now Jason Garrett needs to get an offensive coordinator and a defensive coordinator. Yes, I know Garrett will probably continue to be the "offensive coordinator", but come on he's been terrible at that. Jerry you needed to completely clean house. This move is like rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic. Your team is still going down and it's going to be just as ugly. This is a cosmetic move that will have little or no real impact. Now Jerry if Dallas somehow manages to double their victory total, please don't sign Garrett to a 2 year contract. Please only sign real coaches to longer than 1 season contracts.

Now Jerry here's your next two moves, start looking for a real football coach. That would eliminate Jason Garrett, any other coach currently on the Cowboys staff, Norv Turner or John Fox. Here are your only three options: Bill Cowher, Jon Gruden and Perry Fewell. That is if your priority is to win and not be perceived as a genius. And being perceived as a genius isn't going to happen anyway.

Move #2 fire yourself. You suck as a general manager and are only marginal as an owner. Here's how to tell if you are a good NFL owner. If we have heard of you your team sucks. Jerry Jones, Dan Snyder, Al Davis: all three of their teams suck. I know who the Patriots owner is, but not because he's always out in public. His team is the brand not him. In Dallas Jerry Jones is the brand and we are seeing the results of that this season. Please fire yourself now!

This is a friend's book, "Wilderness" he's drawing attention to the book he has written. Check it out on facebook. Here's the link: http://www.facebook.com/#!/group.php?gid=304984697029 He describes the book as: "I've written a novel called “Wilderness” which I'm sending out to agents (think "Calvin and Hobbes" written by Neil Gaiman)" He also says "one who friends the group will not get any messages from me, they will just be helping a young aspiring novelist." I think that's a worthy cause.
