May 24th "AI" Performance Review, Heat microwave the Bulls, Under appreciated song of the day

Hello,

Last night was the final performance episode of "AI" for a dreary season 10. David Archuleta was in the crowd, reliving the peak of his life. No surprise that he has completely fallen away from the public eye. He was one of those contestants that made it as far as he did on judges hype.

Of the two I say that Lauren was the winner of the night. I hate the contestants choosing their favorite song of the season. I know it's only the second time we've heard them sing the song, but it's already a bit stale. How about that song be a song they've written. Let's see what kind of an artist they can really be. Scotty's "Gone" lost a lot of charm the second time through. Lauren's "Flat On The Floor" was also not as good as the first time.

My favorite part of the first performances was we didn't have to hear from the judges. That was awesome. We already know what they are going to say, which is whatever Nigel wants them to say. Have any of the judges had an original thought this season? Seriously it was so nice without the judges, why do we need them again? Do we really need someone to tell us how we feel? For this show to regain it's former glory of several years ago, it needs to minimize the judges and Nigel's constant meddling.

Next was the Idols own Idols song selection. I loved how George Strait chose his own song for Scotty. A bit insecure are we George? Scotty's take on "Check Yes or No" was average, but again it's just a similar sounding song over and over again. I gave him a C for his average performance. Carrie Underwood did a big favor for Lauren by picking Pam Tillis' "Maybe It Was Memphis". That's a great song and right in Lauren's wheelhouse. I gave her a B grade on that, but truly neither one was kicking butt up to this point. If they could have only have given Lauren two or three years of maturity and life experience how much better would she be? How much better would "AI". To capture "AI's" former glory from several years ago, raise the minimum age to at least 18. 21 would be better, but we are dealing with "AI" here.

Then we had to hear from the judges and no surprises at all. Randy said he felt like he was a "Scotty concert" for who knows how many times this season. He gave the slight edge to Scotty in the first round and a slight edge to Lauren in the second round. Randy the Republican, you are such a politician. I guess that's how he survives by not having an opinion. Again with the judges so irrelevant, why are they there in the first place?

Ryan then interjects "as they stare each other down on stage". Which is the exact opposite of what was happening. They seem to be good friends. True human emotion that Nigel doesn't need to manipulate.

Jennifer then said whatever Nigel had her say and calling it a "tight race". Ryan then interjects "you cannot change the station now". That made me think of how the judges have been on a script all season of how good all these contestants are. I know what Ryan meant, but to me I heard "why would the judges change what they have been saying all season?"

Then it was Mr. Makeup's turn. Does he even pay attention? He seems more interested in creating his own reality show rather than participating in the one he's on. He awarded both rounds to Lauren because she's "prettier". That was a very skeevy moment, with the geriatric and horndog Tyler showing us what he thinks about. Mr Tyler please stay far away from my daughter.

Then Repeat Randy said "their both in it to win it". It seems he realizes people are mocking him for his limited vocabulary and how he's just going with that. Either that or he's an idiot. Hmm.

Next up Taio Cruz sang "Positive", which was positively non-threatening. It's an okay song but I would tire of it quickly. I loved how Ryan said their was only a "limited amount of downloads" for that song. Don't worry Ryan that song has as much of a chance of being a hit as Jacob Lusk has of being manly.

37 minutes into the show is the first we see of Jimmy Iovine and that was too soon. Will we even see him on the finale? Probably. Will we see him next season? Please no. "American Idol" please go back to the mentors. Again to return to it's former glory, they need to go back to the much more entertaining and useful mentors.

Up to this point of the show I thought that Scotty had the Season 10 title in the bag. But then Jimmy saddled him with that horrendous "I Love You This Big". Really that's the best this big shot executive could do for Scotty? What an atrocious song. If I was the type to listen to country radio, that song would make me avoid it for the next few weeks. I'm not a big Scotty fan, but why was he given such a horrendous song to sing?

The judges then repeated their season long script. Ryan interjects again with more fake drama "as the pressure amounts tonight".

Jimmy was a lot nicer to Lauren, he choose for her "Like My Mother Does". A song that sounds like it could be a big hit. That's such a better song than the steaming pile of crap Scotty was stuck with. I loved how Lauren's Mom was waving her arms, did she think she was at a revival. Obviously Nigel's fingerprints were all over having Lauren going and singing to her Mom. Nigel is as bad as a producer as Randy is a judge. Nigel: Lauren and Scotty are real people you don't need to falsely create "moments".

Then the judges said something. I mostly forgot as I'm learning how to tune them out.

With the sympathy vote Lauren likely got for her vocal cords issue and that very good "Like My Mother Does" song was that enough to swing the vote to Lauren. I thought that Scotty would win this sham contest easily. Now I'm not so sure.

Then on a previously taped performance David Cook closed the show with his "Don't You Forget About Me". His cover of one of the many classic 80's songs.

Tonight we have Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals vs. the finale of "American Idol" at about the same time. Sorry Oklahoma City I'm going to have to watch "American Idol". No matter how bad the season, the finale always has several highlights that are worth tuning in for. I look forward to Lady Gaga with Clarence Clemons, Bono and The Edge, Pia Toscano and Haley Reinhart lighting up the stage again. Of course we will have to hear from all the crappy contestants from this season again. I'll have my DVR record it and skip all the hype, commercials and stupidity and watch the show in a hour.

I'll be cheering for you in spirit Oklahoma City. I still think you can win this series, although tonight's game will be very tough. Why is Dirk Nowitski all of a sudden getting all this praise? He has had one good postseason and some people are calling him one of the Top Ten players in NBA history? Please. Let's not forget Dallas's colossal meltdown to the Golden State Warriors when Dallas was the #1 seed. Nowitski was the main player of that team as well. Dallas deserves very much their choking reputation.

After watching "AI" last night, I turned over to watch Miami-Chicago. I told myself I was only going to watch the game to 9:00pm MST. However I found myself getting into the game. I ended up watching the game to the end. Even more surprising I found myself cheering for the Heat. I was one of the many that mocked LeBron's so called "Decision" and all the other crap that went on with that.

That being said this is a fun team to watch. And I hope it's okay, I have a man crush on Dwayne Wade. I know offensively he struggled last night, but defensively he was the man. I loved how he had those 3 late blocks. Not only did he block shots, he posterized those players with the blocks. I loved that left handed layup he scored over at least two Bulls defenders near the end of the game. I love watching him and LeBron play together.

I look forward to tomorrow night's game, we will see what kind of killer instinct Miami has. Just like we will see the same thing tonight with Dallas. I would say that Oklahoma City has more of a chance to win than Miami. I think Chicago is toast. I feel sorry for Derrick Rose. I know that team has some other pretty good players, but he's the only true great player on they have. I mean it has to be scary for Chicago that the second most valuable player last night was Ronnie Brewer. Ronnie Brewer?

The Boozer signing was a costly mistake. I loved how one of the TNT guys called his defense "statuesque". Read: Boozer doesn't play defense. The TNT guys were also saying that Miami should attack Boozer in clutch time. Shouldn't you be getting more for $13 million dollars? Chicago in the off season you need to surround Rose with more viable players. A big with an offensive game and plays defense. Too bad you have that horrid Boozer contract eating up so much cap space.

One final thing: why is the NBA having Dr. J interviewed by a basketball about one of the most iconic plays of all-time? Doesn't he deserve more respect than that? Dr. J is one of the classiest people in NBA history. Get rid of that commercial.

Don't worry I'm going to be stop from blogging about my divorce for the most part. However for the under appreciated songs of the day, two Pearl Jam classics about dissolving relationships:
