Jerry Jones Shut The Hell Up! (Updated 11/1/12)

Hello,

The below comments come from Jerry Jones twice weekly radio show. That's one of his problems, he opens up his mouth too much in public. When it comes to the Cowboys woes, the last person I want to hear from is Jones. He's the root of most of the Cowboys problems as it is. The only thing I want to hear out of his mouth is that he'll no longer be the alleged GM or that he's selling the team. Especially if it's too someone that cares about winning, rather than making money.

From ESPNDallas:

"I think this, I noticed where the other teams in the NFL, and this is very common, had its key player walking around all week with a football," Jones said. "Go to his classes and study periods with a football, eat with footballs. I've seen that happen. I go back to as far as my college days to guys emphasizing holding on to the football. I've seen practice done where you almost had your arms tied by your side on special teams on kick and punt returns. So the players wouldn't stick their arms out and they wouldn't get holding penalties. So anything you can do mentally and physically to have repetition to get better you want to do. I have a lot of confidence in Jason Garrett and I have a lot of confidence in the coaching staff. I know that we are continuing to make improvement in all these areas."

First of all, what's he saying above? He doesn't talk as much as he meanders in conversation. Jones has a lot of confidence in Garrett? Why? The Cowboys are 4-8 over their last 12 games, why would he have confidence in that head coach? It's not just that Dallas is losing, it's the way they are losing. Too many stupid penalties, the offense is a mess and Tony Romo throws too many interceptions. Their wide receivers are soft and vastly overrated. If Dallas didn't have such a good defense, I'd hate to see how bad the Cowboys record is.

Romo is 3-4 as a starting quarterback this season. Meanwhile rookie Andrew Luck's Colts are 4-3. They have a coach who's fighting cancer, a defense that's not as good as the Boys defense and a relatively young team.

Jerry also says he's sick:

"Well, I'm sick," ..... "it's just very disappointing. But not discouraged at all."

Jerry, I'm also sick. I'm sick of you and your meandering double speak. You still have "confidence" in your team because you'll not admit how many mistakes you've made. And how can the Cowboys be "disappointing", but you not be "discouraged". That makes no sense. That's because as you got to the end of your thought, you realized your true feelings had slipped out.

ESPN Dallas have a poll  today about who does Cowboys Nation trust more, Jason Garrett or Tony Romo. But they didn't include an option for neither. That's where my vote goes! I also have no confidence in Jerry Jones to do what's best for the Cowboys. Jerry will always put himself first as the Cowboys continue to be a mediocre team. When the Cowboys don't make the playoffs this year, that will be 4 of 5 years of them missing the playoffs. Only someone completely senile or arrogant can still have confidence in a team who's underperforming so much.

Jerry it's time for you to go away and it's time to blow up the Cowboys. I'm not the only fan that thinks that Jerry, it's an overwhelming feeling by Cowboys Nation.

Speaking of the Cowboys, I'm glad there's one person with the name of Romo that doesn't usually choke. Sergio Romo had a season E.R.A of 1.79, a 4-2 record and 23 holds. He also pitched the final pitch to secure the Giants second World Series in 3 years. Thankfully some day the Cowboys will be able to move on from Tony Romo, Jerry Jones and Jason Garrett.

Speaking of which why do I have the sinking feeling that the next head coach of the Cowboys will be Rob Ryan or Norv Turner. It would either be the third straight coordinator promoted to head coach or a head coach that has a bad track record. But Jerry Jones as the GM likes to go with people he knows. That's preferable to him over actually being good at their job. It's only a matter of time until Garrett gets fired.

Speaking of that horrific Dallas GM, Jones, he was also the "genius" who traded up to get Dez Bryant in the draft a couple of years ago. Bryant not only has been bad on the field, he's been a jerk off the field. He's currently in the Dallas legal system after hitting his Mom. There's doubt over the severity of the hit and the circumstances behind it. But anyway you slice it, it's definitely something that shouldn't be done.

Bryant had multiple issues before he was drafted. However Jones was tantalized by Bryant's talent and drafted him. Jones went so far as giving Bryant the number 88, which is the number previously worn by Cowboy greats Michael Irvin and Drew Pearson. Bryant hasn't lived up to either of those great wide receivers. He's only tarnished their legacies and has caused nothing but problems since joining the Cowboys. He does have talent, but he doesn't do what is needed to fulfill his potential. He's also had multiple off field issues. He's also fragile and I predict he'll be missing games soon for injuries. He'll be out of the NFL in 3 to 5 years, yet another horrific GM decision by Jones.

Jerry Jones does spend money, but other than that he's the Frank McCourt of the NFL.

Lakers Fall Apart At Home & Dwight Howard Is Overrated!

Hello,

The presumed NBA Finals participants Lakers stumbled in their first regular season game last night. They lost to the undermanned Mavericks 99-91. They lost all 8 of their pre-season games, not that those games mean anything, the Lakers are now 0-9 in 2012-2013. I don't think this string of losses will last and I still expect the Lakers to have a good season. But LA losing to the Dirk Nowitski-less Mavericks makes me laugh.

Who's the most hated team in the NBA, is it the Knicks or the Lakers? Any team that has Carmelo "No Defense" and Amare "Always Injured" Stoudemire is hard to like. But in being most hated I'd have to give the edge to the Lakers. They have Kobe "Well Why Can't I Shoot Everytime" Bryant, Ron "The Felon" Artest and Pau "Softy" Gasol. But to truly put them over the top they also have the most obnoxious player in the NBA, Dwight Howard.

Howard loves to whine about where he's playing and he's the same player who quit on the Magic last season. He's one of those players that only cares about himself. If he cares about his team then why isn't he a better foul shooter? Also why did he hold the Magic hostage for so long? Why did the Magic put up with it? Anyway last night Howard made his Lakers debut and had a Tony Romo game. That is if you look at his numbers, he had a decent game. But if you saw the game, you realized how mediocre he played.

The Good: He made 8 of 12 shots and had 10 rebounds. The Bad: Howard missed his first shot, a two handed dunk attempt. The Ugly: Howard was an atrocious 3 of 14 from the line, after one game he's shooting 21% from the free throw line. Dallas also employed the Hack-A-Howard strategy rather than let him have easy baskets. He also fouled out, which included the petulant Howard having a flagrant foul called on him. The Lakers were also out scored by 13 points when Howard was on the floor.  Howard also exploded for 1 block, the same amount of blocks that Steve Nash had. That's not very good production for someone making $19.5 million this year.

What's the over/under on Dwight Howard complaining about the next place he wants to play. I give Howard 10 more games before he starts whining about the next team he plays for.

I'll be cheering for the Trailblazers to beat the Lakers tonight, at the same time as I'm cheering for the Jazz. Utah Jazz could you dispatch of the Mavericks and have the game in hand by 9:15? I do have "Nashville" to watch tonight.

"Star Wars: Episode 7": A Geek's Cautious Optimism

Hello,

It was announced today that Disney is going to be buying Lucasfilm for $4.05 billion dollars. But for geeks and nerds the most exciting news is that there's plans to release three more "Star Wars" movies.  "Star Wars: Episode 7" should be released in 2015.

Some of my extremely fond memories of "Star Wars":

"The Imperial March (Darth Vader's Theme)"

Wow this preview blows. This is really the preview for what is the greatest movie of all-time?

The opening of "Star Wars":

Darth Vader's introduction:

"Help Me Obi Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope"

"Star Wars" was released on May 25th, 1977, it was only released in 32 theatres originally. I remember  seeing "Star Wars" to celebrate my birthday on or about June 10th. That was the year I turned 10 and obviously it was a formative year. Seeing "Star Wars" at that time in my life cemented it as my all-time favorite movie. Needless to say I was blown away by everything from the opening music to Darth Vader's intimidating entrance.

I didn't quite know what to think, this movie was something like I'd never seen before. All those cool aliens and all the mythology behind the story. But yet at the same time the story of Luke Skywalker is a very universal story. At least that's what Joseph Campbell says in "The Power Of Myth".

But don't forget Princess Leia, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Boba Fett, Chewbacca, Lando Calrissian and Han Frickin' Solo.

Now when someone of my generation says they love "Star Wars", what we are really talking about the original trilogy. That being "Star Wars", "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi". I'm talking about all the great actors that appeared in the first trilogy. Alec Guinness, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Billy Dee Williams among others.

We aren't talking the three movies that were made later, starting with the horribly named "Phantom Menace". Right off the top of my head I can only remember "The Phantom Menace's" title, that shows you how little of regard I have for the other trilogy. We can handle the Ewoks but please no Jar Jar Binks ever again. We also aren't talking about the "acting" of Hayden Christensen or Jake Lloyd. Of course the later made trilogy did have Samuel Jackson, Natalie Portman, Ewan McGregor and Liam Neeson. Also Darth Maul's light sabre was pretty cool. Did somebody say Natalie Portman? I'm sure there's some logical time travel storyline in which we can bring Natalie Portman to the final "Star Wars" trilogy.

Although I did have high hopes for "The Phantom Menace" when I saw this theatrical poster:

Also if Disney controls the movies, does that mean that Lucas can no longer go back and mess with these movies? I hope so, however Disney please feel free to excise Binks asap. In fact, feel free to completely rework that whole trilogy.

I'm cautiously optimistic that Disney won't screw up the Star Wars universe as bad as George Lucas did. I think Disney has done an okay job with Pixar movies, it seems that they have stayed out of the way. Because of that Pixar has continued making good movies.

Sadly what happens many times is a great creative company, like Lucasfilm, gets bought out by a large company is that the bottom line becomes the most important thing. Instead of letting the creative people be in charge, the penny pinching financial people are in charge. Something that could have been so great turns out bad. Especially when the financial people want to release something that isn't quite up to an original's legacy just to make money.

I'm hoping that Disney will choose out the creative side if there's the choice. Now creative doesn't mean  expensive necessarily. Sometimes a very creative idea can actually save money. I'm glad to hear that George Lucas will still be involved in the making of these movies, but I'm hoping he won't be directing them. The directors I'd like to see is Peter Jackson or Steven Spielberg. He's made sci-fi movies before and he probably is the best director working now. James Cameron could do a good job, but he's busy with the new "Avatar" movies. Kenneth Branagh might be a good idea as well, he almost made "Thor" watchable. That movie also featured Natalie Portman. Ben Affleck would also could be a good idea. "The Town" was good and "Argo" has been getting rave reviews.

I wouldn't be so excited about Christopher Nolan directing, the final Batman movie was a bloated mess. Joss Whedon, who directed "Avengers", it seems I might be the only who didn't like that movie. I also won't be excited about J. J. Abrams either. The first couple of seasons of "Lost" was amazing. Since then his work has been mediocre. Both "Alcatraz" and "Revolution" have been major disappointments. Catherine Hardwicke, who directed the original "Twilight" movie.... enough said. And as for that last suggestion, the fanboys are out. They hate that idea with a passion. (Thanks to ew.com for many of these names.)

I'm cautiously excited that Disney will be able to bring back the "Star Wars" magic. I'll probably be writing about this topic off and on until the summer of 2015. Please Disney and George Lucas take good care of this series.

Mark Hamill really was a terrible actor, wasn't he?

"The Empire Strikes Back":

"Return of the Jedi":

Of course the whole "Star Wars" phenomena was so large that it inspired many tributes, parodies and all sorts of other imitators.

"Space Balls":

Jennifer Aniston as Princess Leia. Hawt!

Is It Time For "Revolution" To Be Crushed?

Hello,

Last night was another disappointing episode of "Revolution", this episode is titled "Sex and Drugs". There was a lot of drugs, but thankfully very little sex. Most of the drugs and sex were only implied. The previews for this episode indicated that Charlie (Tracy Spiridakos) would be having sex as a trade for medicine for Nora. I'm grateful that didn't happen. Although it's shameful that Charlie had that gratuitous nude scene. Of course at that time she decided to rip up all her post cards, which was her childhood mementos. Did she really need to do that nude? A show doesn't need sex and violence if the story telling is good.

I'm glad to see that Spiridakos is actually acting now. The whiny faces were few and far between in this episode. She still has a way to go before she's a great actress.

But she's already better than the horrible Zak Orth, who plays Aaron Pittman. Is he or Graham Rogers as Danny the worst actor on the show? I can't get it out of my head that the producers of "Revolution" were looking for a Robert Pattinson knock off for the role of Danny. Pattinson and Rogers both have that pale look and neither can act. Anyway back to Aaron.  First of all how would Pittman survive 15 years in the brutal postapocolyptic world? Aaron is the last non-action hero. Why hasn't he become tougher since the lights went out? I also don't buy that he was a big shot with Google. Corporate America is a very cut throat world, a world that would have chewed up Aaron and spit him out.

And that duel Aaron had with Nora? Please. I could feel most "Revolution" fans cheering when he shot himself. There goes one of the show's weakest links, goodbye. But it felt a little bit too good to be true. And sure enough Aaron was only faking out everyone and then he shot Drex. Again that's completely unbelievable and out of character for the wussy Aaron.

And what was that with his back story? His back story is he left his wife because he's a wuss? Really is that the best the producers and writers could come up with? I also didn't buy that he was married to someone so capable. Why do I have a feeling she'll be turning up eventually?

To make fiction we care about, there must be characters that we care about. Who do we care about on this show? Any of the Mathesons? No, but Rachel may be able to get there eventually. Although why did she leave her family? It better be a damn good reason. Do we care about Aaron? No. The best character on this show is Tom Neville (Giancarlo Esposito). But we can't care about him, can we? Should we? As long as he's with the militia he simply can't be a likable character.

Oh excitement, next week we get to find out the secret why the power is going out. Goosebumps! Ok I'm being sarcastic. I'm not sure how much longer I'll be watching this hot mess.

NBA Season Preview In Brief

Hello,

Who's going to win the NBA Title this season? If I was forced to pick, I'd say it will be Miami. Adding the long distance shooting threat of Ray Allen to Miami just makes them that much more explosive. This could be the start of a string of NBA titles for the Heat. The NBA season tips off tonight. Tonight's best match up probably will be Boston vs. Miami. How will Allen going to the Heat in the off season play out? Meanwhile the most intriguing thing about tonight's Lakers-Mavericks game might be whether Kobe Bryant plays or not.

Who won't win the NBA Finals? Any team that has a me first player. Immediately that eliminates the terrible Knicks. They have two me first players, Amare Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony. Good news for the Knicks though, Stoudemire and his ridiculous glasses are out for at least 6 weeks. That should help the Knicks get off to a relatively quick start. If everything breaks right for the Knicks, perhaps they can claim the best team in New York title. But that's about all they realistically can expect. Although we will still have to hear about them from the national media.

Speaking of that are the Knicks the Cowboys of the NBA? (I would say the Lakers are the Cowboys of the NBA, but the Cowboys can't win championships.) Both have owners who clearly care more about making money than actually winning. Both teams make splashy signings that many times don't make sense or work out that well. The list of examples for both teams is long. Neither team has a great GM or a head coach. Both head coaches are where they are because the previous head coach was fired/forced out. Both teams get way more coverage than they deserve.

Having a me first player also eliminates the Lakers. Kobe Bryant has a lot of detractors, but the man is a  born killer when it comes to winning. Unfortunately add Dwight Howard to that team and they won't be winning anything. Howard is a lot like Tony Romo. Both have great numbers, both choke in the clutch and neither will win a championship. I can't wait until the game is on the line for the Lakers and Howard has to go to the free throw line for the win. Let's imagine such a scenario. The Lakers are down by 1, just seconds on the clock and Howard goes to the line for two free throws. What will the career 50% shooter do? What are the chances that he'll make both?

That's the same Howard who just a couple of days ago was talking about how he had wanted to be traded to the Nets. Sarcasm alert. Yeah, that's someone I'd want on my team.

The Bulls also won't win as they have Carlos Boozer. Boozer may be the ultimate me first player. I'll give a potential me first player exception to the Bulls. They may be smart enough to amnesty or simply not play Boozer. Bulls fans how does it feel to have Boozer and the $45 million dollars he's still owed on your roster now? Jazz fans thank you yet again for taking him off of our hands. Who'll be amnestied first, Boozer or Stoudemire?

Speaking of the Jazz, they have an incredibly young team with a lot of potential. That means they'll have flashes of brilliance but also moments of ineptitude. They'll be maddenly inconsistent the whole season. I do look forward to their first game tomorrow night against the Mavericks. The Mavericks are a team on the downswing and by late Halloween night the Mavericks could be 0-2.

The Contrasts Between the Cowboys and the 49ers.

Hello,

Can the Cowboys use Halloween and dress up as the 49ers for the rest of the season? Please. Wow the 49ers put on a display of ruthless efficiency last night. San Francisco rolled to a 24-3 victory over the Cardinals in Arizona. The 49ers know exactly how to use their limited quarterback, Alex Smith. Smith probably isn't one of the top ten quarterbacks in the NFL. But the 49ers know that and use him wisely. (Meanwhile the Cowboys have no clue what to do with their limited quarterback, Tony Romo. I do though, get rid of him.) Smith had an amazing game last night. He completed 18 of 19 passes for 232 yards and 3 touchdowns. His quarterback rating was a ridiculously high 157.1, nearly 3 times the rating of Tony Oh no. Smith set the record for best completion percentage by a quarterback who threw a minimum of 15 passes.

The 49ers put Smith in a position where he can make a few plays to win the game. He's smart enough to not go past his limited abilities. He plays within himself usually. He did throw three interceptions against the Giants, but those kind of games are rare for him.

Meanwhile the 49ers defense have only given up a touchdown to one team in their last 5 games. The Giants scored two touchdowns against the 49ers defense. The last 5 teams that played the 49ers have only scored a total of 38 points. The 49ers continued their dominance last night as the Cardinals only rushed for 7 yards last night.

The 49ers are now 6-2 and could run away with the NFC West. Meanwhile the Cowboys are 3-4 and tied for second place with the Eagles in the NFC East. While the 49ers will fight for playoff position for the rest of the season, the Cowboys will be making excuses why they are so bad. Of course the Cowboys have a lot of experience of making excuses. That's one of the things they are truly good at.

San Francisco is everything the Cowboys want to be when they grow up. Dallas needs to bring in a real GM and a great coach, look how much difference that has made for the 49ers. Again work around the quarterbacks abilities and not expect too much from him. The Cowboys simply expect too much from Romo, he's just an average quarterback. He's probably a bit better than Smith, but the 49ers know how to take advantage of Smith's abilities.

Will please someone in Dallas not let Jerry Jones make a draft deadline trade? The last one he made he traded for the wide receiver Roy Williams, that turned out to be a disastrous trade. That's exactly the kind of trade a bad, desperate GM makes.

What I'm Writing About Today 2.

Hello,

So this blog won't be me all complaining or whining I'm going to write some positive things. First of all the third episode of "The Walking Dead" was great. I love Michonne, she's a great character. I was so jazzed up on "The Walking Dead" last night that I read the third volume in the comic book series. It's titled "Safety Behind Bars". I love the similarities and differences between the actual comics and the TV show.

"The Good Wife" and "Castle" continue to be good shows. I haven't seen the new "Good Wife" yet, I'll be watching it tonight.

Unlike a certain team from Dallas, the 49ers actually know how to win. (Last season the Cowboys lost 5 times when they went into the fourth quarter with a lead.) Both teams have limited quarterbacks, San Francisco has Alex Smith. But the 49ers build a game plan around him. Those game plans give Smith every chance to win as they don't ask too much of him. Also Smith will throw the ball away when he needs to. Live and fight another day. That's something that Romo still hasn't learned. Like Romo, Smith also has 9 touchdown passes. But here's one of the big differences between the two quarterbacks, he only has 5 interceptions. That's due to great quarterback play, coaching and well taught wide receivers.

If asked to step up and win the game for the 49ers based on his skills, Smith probably won't be able to do that. However he also won't lose the game for his team. In other words the 49ers are smart and a well run team. The 49ers also have that amazing defense and a great head coach. The 49ers should be 6-2 tonight after beating the Cardinals in Arizona.

Another great thing about the 49ers is I have no idea who their owner is. He's not some vain, camera hungry egomaniac who wants to be seen as a football genius. He doesn't need to be on TV all the time. He's the anti- Jerry Jones.

The more I write about the contrast between the 49ers and the Cowboys, the more I realize how bad the Cowboys are.

I don't think the 49ers are the best team in the NFC, but they do have the potential to be. I actually think the Giants are the best NFC Team. The Falcons are 7-0 but they are the Falcons still. Although I do see them going to 8-0 as they play the pathetic Cowboys Sunday.

I also look forward to watching the Jazz start their season on Wednesday night. This young Jazz team has a lot of potential. Go Jazz.

I love seeing Karma continuing to have it's way with both Auburn and Scam Newton and his Carolina team. It's too bad the Panthers fans have to suffer Scam's karma. Scam Newton had a terrible game and even a worse quarterback rating than Tony Romo had. Newton barely completed half of his passes, 0 touchdowns, 2 interceptions and a 57.0 rating. The Panthers have only scored 48 points in their last 3 games. His Panthers are 1-6. Meanwhile the University he won a corrupt national title for, Auburn, is 1-7 on the season. And the slimy Gene Chizik is being exposed for the fraud head coach he really is.

What I Am Writing About Today! The Terrible Cowboys Again!

Hello,

Jerry Jones it's way past time for you to stop destroying the once proud Cowboys. Jerry you must go!

Yes this is yet another whining blog from me about the pathetic Cowboys. Before I get to that though I just want to thank the Cowboys defense. They played a great game. The Giants were up 23-0 at one point but probably should have been up more.

What I'm writing about today, yes the pathetic Cowboys again. But I will try and keep it short. Dear Dallas Cowboys ticket holders, please don't go to the next home game. Better yet demand your money back for the rest of the games. Fans need to start skipping the games so that Jerry the Idiot gets the idea we are sick of his dictatorship. Jones could care less about winning, that's clear to everyone now right? If he cared about winning he would make some real changes. Garrett replacing Phillips isn't a real change. That's just replacing one yes man with another yes man. And Rob Ryan isn't the answer either. Keep him as the good defensive coordinator he is. The only way Jones will start making changes is if he starts losing money.

The Cowboys are 123-124 and have only one playoff win in the last 15 years. I can't even watch the Cowboys any more, they are just too pathetic. In fact, I'm starting to cheer against the Cowboys. I want this team to be so bad that they finally have to make changes.

It amazes me that people are still supporting Romo. Yesterday his interceptions ended the Cowboys first, second and fourth possessions. And the third possession was a punt. Dallas has a 2nd and 1 near the end of the fourth quarter. But instead of getting the first down, they throw three long passes. None of them are complete. The last play Romo is backpedaling and goes back about 20 yards from the line of scrimmage before throwing the ball. Romo 9 touchdowns, 13 interceptions. And as is typical of Romo he threw as many touchdown passes to the opponent as he did to his own team. ROMO MUST GO!

Jerry Jones continues to be such an idiot. The Cowboys showed Jones doing a public service announcement for breast cancer. When Cowboys fans saw his butt ugly face, they begin booing. After the game Jerry said he hoped the fans weren't booing the breast cancer PSA. Of course they weren't Jerry, stop being such an idiot. THEY WERE BOOING YOU AND THAT CRAPPY TEAM YOU PUT ON THE FIELD! Jerry you've got to step down from being a terrible GM now. It's time to give up on the joke quarterback and joke head coach.

And to top it off the Cowboys will be traveling to Atlanta to play the Falcons on Sunday Night Football next week. So for the second straight week the Cowboys will be exposed for the pathetic team they are on national TV.

Prayers To Those In The Path of Hurricane Sandy.

Hello,

I'm overwhelmed by the news of Hurricane Sandy and the monumentally destructive impact it could have on the Eastern Coast of the United States. I'm praying for all of you that are in the way. I urge you to leave if possible, if not to prepare as well as you can.

With the power going to out for a week to 10 days, I urge you to get as much water as possible. I realize that the areas in the pathway of Sandy are having shortages, but do what you can.

abcnews.com is my personal favorite news website. It always has excellent and up to date information. I discovered abcnews.com during the Bush-Gore election mess and it's my go to news site now for when any big news story breaks.

From abcnews.com, via FEMA, here are the supplies you should have:

- Non-perishable food that can be eaten easily and without heat- enough for at least three days. Again you should probably have as much as you can.

- Bottled water (enough for at least three days), at least a gallon per person. I would suggest that's the barest minimum. This is probably something you can't over prepare for.

- Radio (hand crank or battery powered)

- Flashlights (with extra batteries of course)

- First-aid supplies

- Wrenches and any tools you can have handy.

- Batteries

- Cleaning supplies.

My additions to the above list:

- Diapers, wipes and anything else needed to take care of small children.

- Spare food for your pets as well.

- Perhaps have some maps handy to any kind of shelters if staying in your house becomes untenable.

- Perhaps get some ice and coolers for things like milk.

- The best outdoor weather gear in case you are forced out in the storm.

- Make sure your car is full of gas. Some people may panic and the lines could be long at gas stations. Plus there may not be gas shipments either for several days.

Many places also sell 72 hour kits. It's basically enough food and water to last one person with everything they need for 72 hours. If possible you should have at least one for every person you'll be riding the storm out with. They usually come with food, water, blankets and pretty much every other needed thing.

God bless, themusicaddict

What Must Cowboys Fans Do To End Jerry Jones' Reign? (Updated October 28th)

Hello,

I'll start off with the good thing about the Cowboys performance today. Their defense was very tough.

On October 28th the Cowboys completely collapsed at home against the Giants. Behind 3 early Romo interceptions, the Giants quickly roared to a 23-0 lead. (Where have I heard that before?) The Giants held on for a 29-24 victory. New York is now 4-0 in the new Cowboys Stadium. This game featured many reasons why the Cowboys are so mediocre. Starting with Jerry's decisions and the people he chooses to run the team. Again his reliance to stick with a player or coach that he thinks he discovered. He keeps on hoping that eventually they'll come through and then that everyone will think he's a football genius. But sadly he isn't even close to that or will he ever be. Honestly I've begin to cheer for the Cowboys to lose, this team needs to be blown up this off season.

He's still sticking with Tony Romo, although he only has one playoff victory in 4 trips. He's 1-4 as a starting quarterback in the playoffs. Romo showed yet again why he's so average. Three of the first four Cowboy possessions ended with a Romo interception. That third interception was a pick 6- taken back to the house by Jason Pierre-Paul. Romo also missed on 26 passes. Some of the blame deservedly will go to the equally terrible Cowboy receivers. However Romo missed many wide open receivers. Later Romo threw his fourth interception of the game. Then his final throw of the game was a Hail Mary. By definition that's a desperation play. There's only so much a quarterback can do. However he overthrew the end zone so badly that Dallas had no chance for a winning touchdown. Romo finished with a horrific 58.3 quarterback rating.

Through 7 games Romo has thrown 9 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. Some of the interceptions are the receiver's fault, but Romo still has way too many interceptions.

Another person Jones is sticking with that he shouldn't stick with is the terrible Jason Garrett. Part of the blame for Romo's bad day has to be placed on Garrett. That's because Garrett called 62 pass plays, 62! Of course with the Cowboys having terrible running backs, they don't give him many options there. Still the Cowboys should have a few more running plays. Garrett's offense is very predictable and thus not very successful.

Finally Jones must get rid of his terrible GM, himself. Who is the idiot that wants to sign Romo to an extension? Who is the one that keeps on sticking with Garrett? Who's the one who traded up to get Dez Bryant? The same player who had issues even before joining the Cowboys and who now has a baby sitter because of his incredible lack of maturity? Who's the person who signed Miles Austin to a big contract after having one good season? The tissue soft Austin will continue to be an average NFL wide receiver. The answer of course is Jerry Jones. Ultimately all the blame must lay at his door. He's the one making the decisions and sticking with terrible personnel way too long.

Who'll never fire himself as GM? Even though if Jones was GM with any other team, he would have been fired a long time ago. This team has been a bad team for a long time and will continue to be so until Jones gets a real GM. But Jones doesn't care if the Cowboys win, he's making so much money. They even recently added a Victoria's Secret store to the new Cowboy's Stadium. Obviously his main goal is to make money, he's very successful at that. If he really wanted to win, he'd try something else. The Cowboys results on the field says all you need to know about Jerry's priorities.

Somewhere I'm sure Jones, Romo and Garrett are making excuses why they lost to the Giants today. They are doing that instead of trying effective replacements for them, Dez Bryant and many others. Dallas next play on Sunday Night Football as they'll play the 7-0 Falcons in Atlanta.

Good luck to the Giants on their flight home. I hope they can land in New York safely.

I know I promised that I wouldn't be writing this blog yet again. But I just can't take how bad Dallas is and the culture that allows that. I'm 45 years old and won't live forever, I'd love to see one or two more Super Bowl victories in my lifetime. However I'm fearful that the Cowboys won't be relevant again for several years. Missing the playoffs 4 of 5 years is the very definition of irrelevant. This team literally defines the word mediocrity. Over the last 15 years the Cowboys are right at .500 winning percentage. They finished 8-8 last season and are now 3-3 this season. Although after they lose their next 3 games they'll be 3-6.

No one can question my love of the Cowboys, I've stuck with this team over the last several years. I've been with them through thick and thin, mostly thin. When my oldest boy was born the Cowboys were in the midst of winning 3 Super Bowls in 4 years. When he was born, reading USA Today I also realized that was Emmitt Smith's birthday. Just like that a white couple in Salt Lake City named their child after Smith. Emmitt is a middle name for my boy.

As always I'd love to be proved wrong, but I just don't think it will happen. The Giants have won all 3 times they've played at Jerry's World and I predict they'll do it again this weekend. The Giants have a better coach than Dallas, who doesn't? They also have a much better quarterback than the Cowboys. Although I can't wrap my head around the fact that the weasly Eli Manning has won two Super Bowls. You've got to give him credit though for those two titles.

Jerry Jones is the dictator of the Cowboys. Like any other dictator he'll only give up power when he dies or when someone takes the power away from him. Now I'm certainly not suggesting anybody do anything drastic, but can someone declare him senile? As basis of proof for his senility they can cite Jones' many terrible decisions the last several years. Not only did he hire Wade Phillips as head coach, but he also hired Jason Garrett for the same position. He also paid Garrett $3 million dollars a year to be an offensive coordinator. Which is really insane as his offenses have never been particularly explosive. As someone commented earlier on espn.com, Jones hired someone who used to be part of the problem when Phillips was coach. But the final thing to prove Jones senility is that he wants to sign Romo to a contract extension.

His love of Tony Romo. Romo recently tied with Mark Sanchez as the second most overrated player in the NFL in a Sports Illustrated poll of 180 players. (Tim Tebow "won" the vote as he received 34% of the vote. Does this mean he'll be going away soon? Although knowing that Jones is such a hype fan, it wouldn't surprise me if Tebow ends up with the Cowboys sometime in his career.) It's too bad Romo didn't win that vote as then he could have claimed that he won something in his career. While Manning has won two Super Bowl titles, Romo has only claimed one playoff win. In the following game the Cowboys came out flat and were absolutely destroyed.

The sad thing is that Jerry Jones acts like he believes all his hype. He keeps on saying the Cowboys have the potential to be a Super Bowl team. They do? In what alternate universe is this possible? I don't think that's possible even if everybody was healthy.

He's been running this line of bull crap for several years now. However I have to admit when Tony Romo had his decent game against the Giants in the first game of the season I was fooled yet again. But no one is more fooled than Jerry Jones.

I read an article about since Jerry Jones is both the Cowboys owner and GM he can take chances other GMs wouldn't take. But that's the problem Jerry, you take too many dumb chances. Dez Bryant was a bad draft pick. It's too bad the Cowboys GM has such job security.

Just a side note: I love that many people are thinking that ex-Cowboys Martellus Bennett is now a solid tight end. He's caught 25 balls for 305 yards and 3 touchdowns. I agree those are respectable numbers. However people that followed the Cowboys closely the last few years know what a head case Bennett is. Not only is he a head case but he's also lazy. I guarantee he'll screw up sometime this season and it will probably hurt the Giants quite badly. Giant executives I  suggest that you don't trust him, and for hell's sake don't rely on him. He'll also miss games due to injuries. That's been his m.o. the last several years. A leopard doesn't change his spots and all of that. What no one will officially say in Dallas is that Bennett was a bust. The Cowboys claimed they tried to resign him, but I don't believe him. They were glad they could get rid of him and save face.

There's A Reason They Are Legends Two: Johnny Cash

Hello,

Welcome to my 1300th blog, that's not that big of a deal. Now Johnny Cash, he'll always be a big deal. Thanks Johnny for all the great music.

He and June Carter Cash may sing the best and most beautiful version of this song ever. "If I Were A Carpenter":

I love Johnny's fake smile after being introduced. You could tell he didn't want to be there. How well would have the great Johnny Cash done in the corporate America music industry? June and Johnny sing "Jackson":

"Cocaine Blues" (Live At Folsom Prison):

"God's Gonna Cut You Down":

"The Man Comes Around":

"I Walk The Line":

"Ring Of Fire":

"Sunday Morning Coming Down":

"One Piece At A Time":

"A Boy Named Sue":

"The Night Hank Williams Came To Town":

"The Legend of John Henry's Hammer":

Thanks To Rewind 100.7 & Another Great Song From Clare Bowen

Hello,

Today on a wet and dreary day in Salt Lake City I was driving to work. I usually listen to sports radio, but I'm shifting back into listening to music as I drive around the valley. Today I chose to listen to Rewind 100.7 and they played 4 classic songs in a row. These are those songs:

Journey's "Who's Crying Now":

This song still kicks as much butt as it did back in the 80's. Without a doubt Michael Jackson is one of the all-time greats. "Billie Jean":

George Michael's "Faith":

"Sweet Child O' Mine":

And then Rewind 100.7 played this song? "Firework" is a decent song, but too bad they didn't play Prince's "Take Me With U".

Scarlett (Clare Bowen) and Gunnar (Sam Palladio) on "Nashville" have great chemistry. They impressed in the first episode with "If I Didn't Know Better":

And in last night's episode, Episode 3, they sang another great song. This song is "Fade Into You":

Which shouldn't be confused with this excellent "Fade Into You" song:

What I Won't Be Writing About Today 10/24/2012, My 5 Favorite Taylor Swift Songs on "Red"

Hello,

Things that I definitely won't be writing about today under any condition.

Common sense:

- How wonderful the USADA and their lap dog the UCI are. Did Lance Armstrong cheat in order to get the 7 Tour De France titles? Probably! Do I give a damn? Not at all. What all this coverage fails to note is that nearly everyone else was also cheating. If so, then it all came down to who was the best racer.  However at this point I just don't care. The fact that Armstrong came back from testicular cancer to even be able to compete is absolutely amazing to me. The fact that he was competitive at all was inspiring. The fact that he won 7 Tour De France's in a row, even if he "cheated", is superhuman.

- I won't talk about the money Armstrong and his foundation have made to fight the insidious disease cancer. Other than to say thanks Lance for all you have done. Thanks for the inspiration and dedication.

Television:

- I definitely won't be writing about tonight's episode of "Nashville", maybe tomorrow after I watch it.

- "Arrow": I was already to watch it last night, but it's not on Comcast On Demand. Dearest CW, you need to do what ever you can so that people will watch your shows.

- I won't be writing about the disagreement between Jennifer Esposito and CBS over her battle with Celiac disease. Although it would be a shame if she's no longer on "Blue Bloods".

Music

-  I definitely won't be writing about how great Taylor Swift's new CD "Red" is. It's still not available on Spotify, although I understand that it was available for a time. I can't find it available to listen to anywhere free.

According to techcrunch.com, via billboard.com:

"Red is not likely to be available at subscription services until Swift’s next album is released, according to a source familiar with the label’s strategy with her previous releases. Instead, the focus for Red is a mountain of retail campaigns and promotions at both well-known CD sellers and non-traditional retailers."

The best I could do was listen to the 90 second snippets of each song available on iTunes, but that just isn't the same. I won't be writing about 11 of the 16 songs on "Red". I especially won't be writing about "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together", that may be one of my least favorite Swift songs ever. From the samples on iTunes these are my 5 favorite "Red" songs so far. I have a feeling this list will change a lot when I can actually hear the full songs altogether on Spotify.

"State of Grace":

"Red":

"I Knew You Were Trouble":

"Holy Ground":

"Starlight":

This might be my all-time favorite Taylor Swift song:

- How excited I am for Scotty McDreary's cash grab, aka a Christmas album. Isn't he due to go away yet?

- The bizarre cover of the latest Bat For Lashes CD.

- The bizarre lyrical stylings of Bridgit Mendler. Is it just me or is she Katy Perry light? Although her new CD is on Spotify.

- How much I hate Mumford and Sons, because I don't at all. I loved their first CD and their second is pretty decent as well. Also I can listen to it on Spotify whenever I want.

- How much I love these two songs (although I do):

"Margaritaville":

This has to be one of the funkiest songs ever, "Superstitious":

Sports:

- Warren Moon saying all the criticism of Scam Newton is racially based. What a stupid thing to say. Why most people dislike is because of how he tried to get paid to play at Auburn. You can run, but Karma will always catch up too you.

- How disappointed I am that the Jazz didn't draft Jimmer Fredette. It's not like it's top secret that he was going to be a bust. Perhaps he can have a JJ Reddick like career someday.

- How much I'll miss Ozzie Guillen, although I have a feeling we'll hear more from him.

- How Notre Dame will beat Oklahoma this weekend, because they won't. If Notre Dame's quarterback play is as bad as it was last week the Fighting Irish will get blown out. Although Notre Dame's defense is amazing.

- How inept the Cowboys are and will continue to be until Jerry Jones hires a decent general manager. Then with defensive stalwart Sean Lee out for the season, I'm afraid this is the begining of the end for the Cowboys. Although they weren't going to make the playoffs this year.

- What Bobby Valentine has to say now. Of course I didn't care what he had to say when he was actually managing the Red Sox. He needs to go far away.

Books:

- How slow the start of "Wolf Hall" is. How much do I have to read to find out what made it the Man Booker award winner?

Random:

- How gorgeous Jessica Biel is, um no.

What I Definitely Won't Be Writing About Today, Part Twoish

Hello,

This is sort of a sequel to a blog I wrote yesterday. I kind of like writing these, so this may become a regular feature. Here goes with what I definitely won't be writing about today:

- Anything that deals with white trash or Honey Boo Boo (ick) :

- The entertainment value of anything Kardashian or "The Jersey Shore". When did being white trash become something that interested people so much? I realize that the Kardashians are rich, but they are just rich white trash.

- I love "The Good Wife", but I probably won't be writing about it much. I'm not sure why I love the show so much when it has two characters I hate so much. That's the boring, one-dimensional Nick and constant nuisance Jackie Florrick. She made her unfortunate season debut on this past Sunday's show. I would love to see Nick and Jackie to go out in a murder-suicide lovers quarrel. That would almost make enduring those two worth it, almost.

- With the debate on last night, there was no "Revolution". Honestly I didn't miss it much. I'm not sure how much longer I'll be watching it.

- Why the Republicans can't do any better than Mitt Romney.

- How much I enjoyed the three Presidential debates or the Vice-Presidential debate.

- The alleged secret that Donald Trump allegedly has about Barack Obama. A secret that he's says he'll be releasing tomorrow. Not sure who's more desperate to remain in the public eye: Trump, Ryan Seacrest or Dwight Howard.

- NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said the Pro Bowl may go away. I won't be writing how much I'll miss it. The last time I watched any part of a Pro Bowl was the 80's. Yes, that's how bad it is.

- The World Series: Giants vs. Tigers. I'm looking forward to free agency though.

- After last night's 13-7 Bears snooze fest victory over the Lions, I definitely won't be writing about the excitement of a good old fashioned NFC North tussle.

- How annoying all the commercials on Kall 700 are! KALL700 is the ESPN affiliate in the Salt Lake valley. Commercials are especially prevalent when Bill and Hans show is on in the afternoon. I'd guess at least half of every hour of programming is made up of commercials. When they are actually talking about sports I quite like Bill and Hans, other than Bill's non-stop hyping of the Pac-12. But all their commercials have made them unlistenable. Even when they are talking, many times they are doing in segment promos. (That's exactly why I listen to Gunther and Graham on 1320AM instead.) I also won't be writing about how much I like KALL 700's traffic updates in the middle of the day especially when there's good weather.

- I won't be writing about Taylor Swift's new CD "Red", out today, as it's not on Spotify yet. Sigh.

Top 10 All-Time American Idols, #7 Jordin Sparks & Season 6 Highlights

Hello,

Looking back about 6 years later on Season 6 of "American Idol" is looking back at a season that wasn't very strong. Both Blake Lewis and Chris Richardson finished in the Top 5. Richardson was one of the dumbest contestants in "Idol" history. Blake Lewis was a master of the beat box, but not much else. I still can't believe he finished higher than Melinda Doolittle. Now there's a woman that can sing and should have at least been in the finals.

Season 6 was also the same year of Sanjaya Malakar, one of the most annoying Idols ever. I still can't believe he finished in 7th place. Tied with him is of course the so-called Crying Girl. I can't remember exactly what she was crying about and I certainly don't want to research it. But she was inconsolable when she did cry.

That was also the same year of the gorgeous, but mediocre singer, Haley Scarnato. It seemed like her clothes revealed more skin the further she got in the competition. If she had made the finals she might have been singing in the nude. Of course that would be preferable to Blake Lewis destroying songs.

Miss Doolittle is a woman:

Melinda does some Bon Jovi, "Have A Nice Day". I remember I was quite surprised how much I liked this performance. Not because of Melinda, but because she was singing a Bon Jovi song.

Here's Doolittle doing a tender song "Home". She sings this song with such poise and grace. Let's hope she's invited to the inevitable "American Idol" All-Stars edition. That's the only way I'd ever watch that show again.

"As Long As He Needs Me":

I can possibly see why Doolittle didn't win Season 6, she picked some lesser known songs. But with her amazing voice, she still should have finished ahead of Blake Lewis.

Also the arrangements of some of the songs she sang were kind of janky. Take for instance this song and "Trouble Is A Woman":

The Bee Gees version:

One for Lakisha Jones, her powerful version of "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going":

Some of Sparks "American Idol" highlights. These videos are shown in a mostly chronological order. She clearly became stronger as the show continued on.

"If We Hold On Together":

"To Love Somebody":

"Living On A Prayer"- Jordin Sparks

"I Who Have Nothing" If I remember right, this was the song that swung the momentum her way. She absolutely soars on this song.

"A Woman In Love":

This is Sparks version of Christina Aguilera's amazing "Fighter". Sparks had to have a big voice and a lot of confidence to even take on this song.

"A Broken Wing"

All of Miss Sparks "American Idol" performances.

Some of her post "Idol" highlights, this is "Tattoo":

"Don't Let It Go To Your Head":

"The Cure":

"Emergency (911)":

This is such a great song, easily my favorite of her post "Idol" songs, "Battlefield":

Jordan Sparks all grown up doing an amazing version of "I Will Always Love You":

Things I Won't Be Writing About

Hello,

These are the things that I won't be writing about:

- The emerging greatness of Scam Newton. I love that Karma is finally catching up with him. He's the starting quarterback for the Panthers, a team that is 1-5. The same team that lost to the mediocre Cowboys at home for heaven's sake. The Panthers fired their GM today. I'm counting down until the National Title is stripped from Auburn for when Scam played for them.

- The greatness of either Tony Romo or Riley Nelson. BYU might have been able to beat Notre Dame this past Saturday if they only had a real quarterback.

- The football acumen of Jerry Jones or the coaching greatness of Jason Garrett.

- The great foul shooting technique of Dwight Howard. ESPN hyped up his performance last night as he played a great game for the Lakers. However again he shot less than 50% from the free throw line. But by his standards he did well as he made 3 of 8 free throws.

-The likability of the Lakers or Knicks.

-The dominance of the Knicks. The Knicks may be the most ineptly run franchise in the NBA, perhaps in all of professional sports. The Knicks are the same team that didn't match the Rockets offer sheet to Jeremy Lin, but that pays more than $20 million dollars per year to oft injured Amar'e Stoudemire. Before the season has even started, he'll miss two to three weeks already. It won't be the only games he won't miss all season either.

- Amar'e Stoudemire's books. Apparently he's written more than one, all of which are illustrated by Tim Jessell. The books are titled "STAT: Standing Tall and Talented". I love how clueless some professional athletes can be.

- The NLCS or World Series. Once all the teams I cared about or was following or were eliminated I lost complete interest. A Tigers-Cardinals or a Tigers-Giants World Series interests me not at all.

- The WNBA Finals, although Tamika Catchings is a cool name.

-How I'll miss the BCS.

-Tonight's third and final Presidential debate.

- The ridiculousness of Justin Bieber, Britney Spears or Demi Lovato giving musical advice on "The X-Factor". I haven't been much impressed by LA Reid either.

- The second episode of the third season of "The Walking Dead". Although I thought "Sick" was another great episode. After a slow start it kicked into high gear. How good this season has been reminds me of how bad Season Two was.

- The continued great acting of Sarah Wayne Cailles and the likability of her character Lori Grimes. Did she and Rick break up last night? Does that mean that she might be killed by zombies soon?

- Who was watching Carol last night as she was practicing doing a C section on a zombie?

- The increasing likability of Hershel, T-Dog, Carol and Carl Grimes. I'm not sure when those three became so likable. Previously I had been cheering for all three to be killed by the zombies. Now I hope all three live for a long, long time. Carl has become a man.

- How gorgeous Lauren Cohen (ok I may write more about her later.)

- I definitely won't be writing about my zombie nightmares last night. I was glad when I woke up this morning and was no longer in the world of the undead. (Unfortunately the lovely Miss Cohen wasn't in any of them.)

Tracy Spiridakos you can take some tips how to be a woman in peril from Miss Cohen. Whiny faces aren't needed.

- How unnecessary "The Talking Dead" is.

- Finishing off Stephen King's "Bag of Bones" last night. It was a great book for the first four-fifths, but sort of a lame ending. A few of King's later era books have had the same problem.

- I started reading "Catch 22" last night. That or Hilary Mantel's Man Booker award winning "Wolf Hall" will be the next book I probably read.

Let The Healing Begin: John Farrell Named New Red Sox Manager

Hello,

According to several people John Farrell will be the new manager of the Boston Red Sox. I have no idea if this is the right hire. But I think we agree it's much better than having the prickly Bobby Valentine as manager of the Red Sox for a second year. (And I'm hoping this will be the last time I ever mention Valentine's name in my blog.)

Farrell was the pitching coach in Boston from 2007-2010, obviously 2007 was when the Red Sox won their most recent World Series. He then became the manager of the Toronto Blue Jays in 2011. Farrell managed the Blue Jays for two years and finished with a respectable 154-170 record. Although that's a losing record, it's very respectable in the AL East. The division long dominated by the Rays, Red Sox and the hated Yankees. Then this season adding the out of nowhere Orioles. The idea is with Farrell's managing acumen and the resources of the Red Sox, that they can return to their recent past glory.

Farrell knows many of these players, he also knows the culture of the Red Sox. He's used to the intense pressure on the Red Sox to win now. He knows it's simply unacceptable to the Red Sox fans that this team hasn't made the playoffs for three straight years. The Red Sox are a win now franchise. Farrell may get a year or two to improve the team. But after that the Red Sox must win if he wants to be the long term Boston manager.

He's coached there for 4 years when they've had a lot of success. He knows how the clubhouse works. The Red Sox also did him a favor by trading away the unhappy and ineffective Josh Beckett, the oft injured Carl Crawford and the probably paid too much Adrian Gonzalez.

Boston's two most important things this season to get some high quality pitching and find a way to not lose so many player games to injury. (Trading away Beckett and Crawford will help with the second thing.) Obviously they can't take on any Daisuke Matsusaka, Jon Lackey, Adrian Gonzalez or ARod like contracts. Just because Boston has a lot of money, doesn't mean they should spend it recklessly.

The Curse of Riley Nelson, The Curse Of Not Having A Real Quarterback

Hello,

In perhaps the most surprising game of the day, BYU somehow found a way to keep close to Notre Dame. Before the game I would have just been glad if BYU scored at least once and only lost by 3 or 4 touchdowns. BYU is decent everywhere except for the quarterback. BYU even led at half surprising both BYU and Notre Dame fans.

Unfortunately when it mattered the most Riley Nelson again played good enough to make people think he's a real college quarterback. But then he missed a wide open Cody Hoffman, on a play that would have resulted in a touchdown for BYU. On that same drive Nelson used one of two BYU's remaining time outs, which came back to haunt them. On that possession BYU eventually had to punt. Notre Dame then ground down most of the final six minutes, leaving BYU with only 30 seconds to try and do anything. Stupidly BYU had used two of their time outs earlier in the half and were only left with one. If they would have only had one more time out, that could have saved at least 30 seconds coming off the clock. Also it was fitting that BYU's final offensive play was a Nelson interception.

The announcers were saying that BYU is fundamentally sound, um no they aren't. There has been way too many times they used their timeouts too early. Also how many stupid penalties have they had? Combine that with a good high school quarterback and BYU was lucky to finish as close as they did.

Next year I hope BYU has a real quarterback. It's hard for me to believe that Nelson is really the best quarterback on BYU this season. (If Nelson was still in Logan, I predict that he'd be their third string quarterback.) Thankfully he's graduating this season and Bronco will be forced to consider other quarterback options. Whether it's Taysom Hill, Jason Munns or the Kuresa kid, hopefully one of those qbs can lead BYU back to where they should be next season. BYU closes out the season playing three terrible teams (those teams combined records are now 7-14) I hope that Bronco gives one of those players some snaps. With this terrible season nearing it's end, it's time to start preparing for the future. Let Munns or Kuresa play a whole game, what does BYU have to lose?

BYU has an incredibly tough schedule next season, it may be the toughest in the nation. Hopefully getting those young qbs experience now will lead to victories next season. How rare is it anymore for any team to use only one quarterback for a whole season?

Thank you to BYU's amazing defense for keeping in the Cougars in all the games except for OSU. I don't even want to know what BYU's record would be if it wasn't for that stout defense. Too bad that same defense can't come back next season.

That being said that Notre Dame has a legitimately great defense. I've watched them shut down teams all season, which is why I was happy that BYU even scored. That defense really needs to step up next week for the Irish though. They travel to play the offensively explosive Sooners. What will they do against a team with a real quarterback?

Random Thoughts: TV Including "Nashville's" Second Episode

Hello,

The first two cancelled shows of the season are "Made In Jersey" and "Animal Practice". Although "Animal Practice" will air a few more episodes. Somehow "The Mob Doctor" survives and it looks like it will survive at least through November. How bare are Fox's shelves that a show that bad can live on?No wonder they are milking the decrepit "American Idol". How are "Guys With Kids", "Neighbors" (this week's show was so stupid), "Ben and Kate" still alive. There will be 13 episodes of "Ben and Kate". That sounds more like a threat than something to live for.

The second, and most recent episode, of "Nashville" was only slightly above average. This episode is titled "I Can't Help (If I'm Still In Love With You)". Nashville" grinds to a screeching halt whenever the political angle comes up. That storyline is so terribly boring. Also is Teddy Conrad (Eric Close) suppose to be so wimpy? I understand that he's only an unwitting pawn of his father-in-law (Powers Boothe), but still. We're suppose to believe he has the stones to be the mayor of Nashville. Other than the mayor of Mayberry or simpleton, I just don't see him being a mayor of anything.

Can Reyna dump Teddy? Please? Dump him and just go to Deacon like both he and her want. That way "Nashville" can excise that terribly boring political storyline. Although Lamar probably wouldn't be too happy about his pawn getting dumped by his daughter. Would he try to prevent that? But back to the music, which should be the main reason this show exists. Reyna and Deacon could tour without any entanglements. The song they sang together at the Bluebird was awful, they would have to get much better material. However that shouldn't be hard.

Deacon would stick with Reyna, which would irritate Juliette. That would be a double win for Reyna. If Reyna and Deacon's tour is successful, they might be able to sell more of her CD. That would spite her record company. "Nashville" make that tour happen. On the tour Deacon and Reyna could get back together. If they are on tour, again that would be a great reason to focus less on the boring political shenanigans of Reyna's daddy.

Also Scarlett (Clare Bowen) has got to dump Avery (Jonathan Jackson), he's unbelievably lame. The show also stops every time he appears on the show. I want Gunnar and Scarlett to record that 3 song demo. They definitely need to include "If I Didn't Know Better" on the demo.

The music this week wasn't great, it was sort of disappointing. The best song this week was "Undermine":

"Telescope" is a very average song. Yes, we get that Juliette is suppose to be the country music Britney Spears. I like that she wants to be her own person and not a toy of the record company. There are too many toys of record companies recording now, which is why music is so bad now. People want to be famous more than they want to create an amazing musical legacy. (The fact that Britney Spears and Demi Lovato are judges on "X Factor" is ridiculous. Justin Bieber giving advice, like he's not a pawn of his record company. Come on!)

One final aside: Who's writing the next "The Wall", "Appetite For Destruction" or "Jagged Little Pill"? 10 years from now "The Wall" will still be remembered as one of the greatest CDs ever and Justin Beiber will be an embarrassing reminder of many girls pre-adolescence.

Other random TV thoughts. Due to my busy schedule this week I haven't got around to the latest "Vegas", "Elementary" or "Last Resort". I plan on watching "Last Resort" when I get home tonight.

This week's "Castle", "Murder He Wrote" was another great episode. I like that not everyone is in the know about Castle and Beckett's relationship. I also loved Castle's meta reference to his and Beckett's relationship when he referred to them as Caskett. Many people have called those two that name for a long time.

Newsweek Going All Digital In 2013: Count Me Out

Hello,

From thedailybeast.com:

"We are announcing this morning an important development at Newsweek and The Daily Beast. Newsweek will transition to an all-digital format in early 2013. As part of this transition, the last print edition in the United States will be our Dec. 31 issue."

The above is probably the first of many similar announcements we'll be seeing over the next few years. I wish Newsweek good luck with that. But as a current subscriber to Newsweek, I'm not interested. I'm currently subscribed until February, 2013. Please send me issues until that December 31st issue. After that please cancel my subscription, you can keep the couple of bucks left over.

I'm an avid magazine reader, although I'm over 5 months behind on my magazines. I love magazines, I love holding them in my hands. I love carrying them with me and not worrying about them getting damaged. I love flipping through the actual, physical pages. I even love getting things in the mail. I love that a magazine never runs out of power or that I need to recharge it.

I own and love my Kindle. However I don't want to read magazines on it. I have read magazines on a computer screen, the actual text directly from the magazine itself. It's not a very good system. It isn't user friendly or fun to read that way. When I want to read, I don't want to mess with a technological gizmo to read. Now Kindles and other electronic reader devices do have their uses, but it's so much better to read the actual physical copy of a book and magazine. A Kindle will never be able to give me that new book smell. One of the best smells in the world.

Thanks for all the great articles over the years though Newsweek!

"Walking Dead" Season 3 Amazing Premiere "Seed"

Hello,

I've been so busy that I completely forgot to write about the great Season 3 premiere of "The Walking Dead". The episode is titled "Seed" and was honestly outstanding. It's a great, great episode in almost every way. I love the zombie killing, but without a great story behind it would just be lame. Also other than Lori's whining, we didn't have to put up with any boring speeches. (Is that what's causing all the problems for "Revolution" to being a great show? All the world losing power is a great, original idea but so far the execution has been terrible. One more aside: From the first episode of "Lost" I completely bought in.)

"Dead" seems to be realistic in it's portrayal of how life in a zombie infested world could be. I love the contrast at the beginning of the episode of a nearly deserted house to the prison full of zombies. From them on the run constantly to them finding the seeming safety of a prison. I could clearly feel their relief when they stumbled across the prison. I love the irony of the prison as a place of refuge and relative safety. Safety is always relative in a Zombie Apocalypse. And in "The Walking Dead" nothing is what it seems to be. Also pure genius is that they encountered the zombies that still had their riot gear on. This show really does well when it thinks a bit outside of the box. They also noticed some of the dead zombies had their legs chewed or cut off. Zombies don't eat their own, so why did the dead zombies have body parts missing? That's the kind of detail I noticed, but didn't think anything of, until they discovered the other survivors. That's one of the questions I'm most interested in is how did those 5 prisoners survive for about a year with being stuck in one place? Did they eat dead zombies or other prisoners? Were they Mormon prisoners and had a year's supply of food stored up?

I've actually got to a place where I've began to like Hershel. At first I hated how sanctimonious he was. It always bothered me how his farm seemed to be safe in a would overrun with zombies. Hershel isn't meant for leadership in the new world zombie order. But at the end of season 2 he turned into Master Zombie Killer. Now he's taking orders from Rick and the speeches seem to have gone away. Hershel is also looking good with his beard. I felt his loss when he lost his leg and maybe more. That's usually a sign that a character is on his way off the show. I do wonder about the zombie that seemed to be playing dead until it could took a big bite out of Hershel's leg. Are all the zombies evolving or is it just a few? With him being the only doctor on the show, who's going to deliver Lori's baby? Is it bad to hope she dies in childbirth?

How can I not mention Michonne? She's the butt kicking blade expert. What is her purpose of having the two zombie pets I wonder. How does she kept them fed? The pets seemed to have accepted their fate. I realize that I'm giving intelligence to two zombies that mainly rely on instinct. However a zombie may not have much of a learning curve, but they still would learn I would expect. They did survive winter after all. Michonne is hanging out with Andrea. It seems like they could be a formidable team win Andrea gets healthy. She was rounding into a master zombie killer at the end of season two. She's probably earning her PHd with Michonne.

With the other survivors seeming stationary at the prison, I like that there will be the Michonne and Andrea story occurring simultaneously. The first half of Season 2 was horrible with them looking for the female character I'd like to forget. It seems "The Walking Dead" has learned that lesson, stationary is death. Let's be honest people don't watch this show for the insights of Hershel or the "great" acting of Sarah Wayne Cailles. I'd wondered how Season 3 was going to incorporate both the Governor and Michonne this season, episode 1 explains that.

I've mentioned several times how much Lori, as played by Cailles, hurts this show. "Dead" continues to be dragged down by the whiny Lori Grimes. She's played terribly by Cailles. A terrible actress playing a terribly whiny character. How has she not been killed off, she doesn't add anything to the show. She nearly was the only weak link in this episode. Lori had two main scenes in this episode and both were terrible. When the camera closed in on her I just knew there was about to be some whining. I dread her giving birth, especially if Hershel doesn't live. I just see her normal terrible acting, only intensified.

The whole potential relationship between Beth and Carl is also a bit creepy. The light may be on for Beth, but no one is home. It also makes me laugh that the survivors are all grimy, but their hair always looks great.

But this show and "The Good Wife" give me two reasons to watch TV every Sunday night. This show has had two consecutive amazing episodes, will it keep it up. Kirkman et al. let me give you a hint, don't focus 6 episodes on a character we could care less about.

Speaking of Zombies, please don't vote for Mitt Romney.

The Whiny Faces of Tracy Spiridakos: One of "Revolution's" Most Confounding Things

Hello,

Episode 5, "Soul Train" is yet another less than thrilling episode of "Revolution". This may be the episode that featured the most whiny faces of Tracy Spiridakos. Is that her natural acting style or is she being directed to do that? Either way, it's pretty lame. It must stop immediately! Spiridakos is a beautiful mid 20's woman, why can't we see more of that?

<--- One of Spiridakos' many unnecessary whiny faces. This is neither acting or attractive. I hope she's not using that face in her big seduction scene hinted at for the next episode on October 29th.

As an action hero Spiridakos has a long way to go. Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen is absolutely believable and Spiridakos should use her as a model of how to woman up.

Why doesn't she have more faces like that? ------->
She's a pretty girl. Danielle Alonso, the actress who plays Nora Clayton, is gorgeous and can't hide it. She doesn't use any whiny faces in her "acting". Thank goodness.

Anyway "Soul Train" did have some good ideas in it. I love the whole idea of the Monroe Militia having a train. (If they just could get one Blackhawk helicopter, then they'd be set.) It's great that the Militia is based in Philadelphia. A nice nod to actual US history. I love that Miles and Charlie whiny face used horses to catch up to the train. Those were two great story ideas. I also loved that Tom and Jason are father and son, in fact they do look alike. This show has potential, I just wonder if it will ever live up to that potential?

But this show keeps on being hurt by boring and repetitive story telling. Five episodes and a plot point of Danny escaping/ trying to escape has played prominently in 3 episodes. I love that these crack Miles Matheson trained militia members have been repeatedly outwitted by a 18 year old punk. According to an article I read at ew.com awhile ago, the whole Danny escaping from the militia story line isn't going to be resolved for 5 more episodes. 5 more episodes? I know it's too much to ask, but can he die in his escape attempt. Like Spiridakos, he's a terrible actor.

Speaking of whiny faces, what is this show going to do with Rachel (Elizabeth Mitchell)? After 5 episodes her character has completely been wasted. I really like Nora Clayton, but really how many times is she going to be injured? Unlike Spiridakos, she's completely believable in action scenes. I also love that her character has enough belief in revolution that she has a USA flag tattoo on her back.

I laughed that that the rebels code phrase is "Do you have a biography of Joe Biden". This show needs to have a few laughs. For heaven's sake, even "Schlinder's List" had a few laughs in it.

Top 10 All-Time American Idols #8: Haley Reinhart (Updated 11/28/12)

Hello,

The #8 all-time American Idol is the lovely Miss Haley Reinhart.

Haley Reinhart finished in third place on Season 10 of "American Idol". Somehow she was edged out by Scotty McDreary and the too young Lauren Alaina. I like Lauren's voice, but I wished she would have waited a couple more years to compete. Although I quite like her song "Like My Mother Does":

This definitely isn't the passing of the torch. Carrie sings that song with a better voice and it's clear she has lived it. While Lauren sings the song well, she's just way too young:

Season 10 is also known for having some of the most annoying personalities ever on "American Idol". Besides Steven "Dbag" Tyler, J Lo and the completely worthless, but somehow still employed, Randy Jackson. Not to mention that season we had to endure the talentless Jacob Lusk, James Durbin and Paul McDonald. Somehow those three finished ahead of Pia Toscano, a gorgeous and strong voiced singer. Everyone that finished behind Toscano are completely forgettable.

How did Jacob Lusk even make it to Hollywood, let alone finish so high? What does that tell you how lacking the talent was for that season. Although I'm sure "AI" said that season was the "most talent ever".

Was Toscano too gorgeous? Did she sing too well? She sang too many ballad like songs, she should have mixed in more upbeat songs earlier in the show. But with a heavily female audience voting for the boys, she never really had a chance. Here are some of her better performances.

"Rehab":

"Bleeding Love":

It was also the first season for a minimum age of 15 and the talent that year was still less than previous years. Also the first 5 people eliminated were women.

Sadly in late November, 2012 the news broke that Haley and her record company, Interscope, have parted ways. Her debut CD "Listen Up" only has sold about 60,000 copies by late November. That's about the same amount of CDs that Taylor Swift sells every day. "Listen Up" is a great CD. The lack of sales reflects more on Interscope marketing than Reinhart's talent. For some reason this seems to be similar to the "Nashville" plot line about Rayna battling her corporate America record company.

Check out "Listen Up" and I'm hoping that Reinhart can bounce back from this. From all the terrible and boring musicians that have come from "AI" over the years, Reinhart is one of the few diamonds.

Some highlights for Haley Reinhart on "American Idol":

"Piece of Me"

"Call Me":

"Rolling In The Deep":

Robert Plant and Jimmy Page contacted Idol producers and offered Reinhart the opportunity to sing a Led Zeppelin song for Top 3 week.[25]

(25) According to Led Zeppelin.org:

Led Zeppelin will reportedly be heard on American Idol as one of the choices for the show Wednesday night. The parents of Haley Reinhart were at the Monday council meeting of the Village of Wheeling, Illinois and gave some suprise details of the Led Zeppelin song to be used on Wednesday night’s Idol performances.

According to Haley’s parents, the group members Jimmy Page and Robert Plant reached out to the American Idol executives and gave permission for the Idol hopeful to use any of their singles for a performance.

“Jimmy Page and Robert Plant has never given any permission to use a Led Zeppelin songs to Idol. When they heard Haley do ‘House of Rising Sun’ they contacted Idol and said if she wants to do one of our songs she can,” explained Haley’s mom to the city council. “When you get that kind of offer you do it.”

According to Haley Reinhart’s parents the three songs the Idol contestant will be singing are “Rhiannon” by Fleetwood Mac, “You Oughta Know” by Alanis Morissette and “What Should Never Be” by Led Zeppelin.

American Idol Top 3 performances start tonight at 8pm on FOX with Haley Reinhart, Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina vying for the top prize of being the next American Idol.

"What Is And What Should Never Be":

As I'm a humongous fan, I think that's quite a compliment to Miss Reinhart. She did a good version of that song.

Here's some of the highlights of her post-"Idol" career:

"Free":

"Oh My":

"Hit The Ground Runnin'":
