NBA Season Preview In Brief

Hello,

Who's going to win the NBA Title this season? If I was forced to pick, I'd say it will be Miami. Adding the long distance shooting threat of Ray Allen to Miami just makes them that much more explosive. This could be the start of a string of NBA titles for the Heat. The NBA season tips off tonight. Tonight's best match up probably will be Boston vs. Miami. How will Allen going to the Heat in the off season play out? Meanwhile the most intriguing thing about tonight's Lakers-Mavericks game might be whether Kobe Bryant plays or not.

Who won't win the NBA Finals? Any team that has a me first player. Immediately that eliminates the terrible Knicks. They have two me first players, Amare Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony. Good news for the Knicks though, Stoudemire and his ridiculous glasses are out for at least 6 weeks. That should help the Knicks get off to a relatively quick start. If everything breaks right for the Knicks, perhaps they can claim the best team in New York title. But that's about all they realistically can expect. Although we will still have to hear about them from the national media.

Speaking of that are the Knicks the Cowboys of the NBA? (I would say the Lakers are the Cowboys of the NBA, but the Cowboys can't win championships.) Both have owners who clearly care more about making money than actually winning. Both teams make splashy signings that many times don't make sense or work out that well. The list of examples for both teams is long. Neither team has a great GM or a head coach. Both head coaches are where they are because the previous head coach was fired/forced out. Both teams get way more coverage than they deserve.

Having a me first player also eliminates the Lakers. Kobe Bryant has a lot of detractors, but the man is a  born killer when it comes to winning. Unfortunately add Dwight Howard to that team and they won't be winning anything. Howard is a lot like Tony Romo. Both have great numbers, both choke in the clutch and neither will win a championship. I can't wait until the game is on the line for the Lakers and Howard has to go to the free throw line for the win. Let's imagine such a scenario. The Lakers are down by 1, just seconds on the clock and Howard goes to the line for two free throws. What will the career 50% shooter do? What are the chances that he'll make both?

That's the same Howard who just a couple of days ago was talking about how he had wanted to be traded to the Nets. Sarcasm alert. Yeah, that's someone I'd want on my team.

The Bulls also won't win as they have Carlos Boozer. Boozer may be the ultimate me first player. I'll give a potential me first player exception to the Bulls. They may be smart enough to amnesty or simply not play Boozer. Bulls fans how does it feel to have Boozer and the $45 million dollars he's still owed on your roster now? Jazz fans thank you yet again for taking him off of our hands. Who'll be amnestied first, Boozer or Stoudemire?

Speaking of the Jazz, they have an incredibly young team with a lot of potential. That means they'll have flashes of brilliance but also moments of ineptitude. They'll be maddenly inconsistent the whole season. I do look forward to their first game tomorrow night against the Mavericks. The Mavericks are a team on the downswing and by late Halloween night the Mavericks could be 0-2.
