Carmelo Anthony Fails The Meads Metric Again, Carmelo + Fails = Carfailo (Updated May 2nd, 2013)

Hello,

The second most overrated player in the NBA, Carfailo Anthony, choked yet again. But good news for Knicks fans, Carfailo bounced back from his awful game on Sunday. On Sunday he only made 29% of his shots. Tonight Carfailo increased that to making 33% of his shots. By comparison he was on fire. That reminds me of the old sarcastic line "you can't stop him, you can only hope to contain him" which is said about mediocre players who have a small bit of success. Not that Anthony is a mediocre player, but he could be so much better.

As for the Meads Metric: Anthony shot a total of 30 field goals and free throws and only scored 22 points. At the end of the third quarter he'd shot a combined 22 shots for 16 points. The Meads Metric says one should score at least one point for each field goal and free throw attempted. Anthony failed the Meads Metric again and he wasn't even close. That means he wasn't "efficient", which is the new cliche NBA catch phrase. Efficient means that a player hits the majority of his shots.

Of course a lot of Anthony's inefficiency has to do with the terrible shots that Anthony takes. He forces up way too many shots. Does he forget that that he has teammates on the floor? Why does he insist on being so selfish with shots? Carmelo had two early assists as the Celtics jumped to a 11-0 lead. After that Boston out scored New York 92-75. Oh and by the way Anthony didn't have another assist the rest of the night. And again he played virtually no defense.

And how can anyone overlook the defense of Brandon Bass? He hounds Anthony into bad shots. Anthony is pretty good at taking bad shots on his own, but Bass's defense makes him shoot even more bad shots. I think Bass has got a bit into Anthony's head.

J.R. Smith was suspended Sunday's game for elbowing Jason Terry. Smith said that if he had been in Game 4 Sunday the Knicks would have won. I actually agree with him. However Smith must have felt really bad about elbowing Terry as Smith suspended himself for most of Game 5. Smith missed his first 10 shots on way to a 3-14 night. One of those 3 made baskets was a meaningless basket with the game in the bag for the Celtics. That basket meant the Knicks lost by 6, instead of 9.

How dumb are the Knicks that they wore black as they were going to the Celtics funeral. That was their mindset, but it was insanely stupid. Did a second grader start giving them advice? Also Mike Woodson is talking about getting A'mare Stoudemire back for the playoffs second round. Even if the Knicks are thinking that, why would they admit it? Also why would they want him back?

The Knicks shot out to a 3-0 lead in this series, but the Celtics have bounced back and won 2 in a row. Game 6 is back in Boston on Friday. The Celtics fans will be rocking and the Knicks will be tight. How will Carmelo, a player that has been eliminated from the playoffs 8 of 9 seasons, react against the tenacious Celtics in Boston for Game 6? How will the Knicks, who haven't won a playoff series since 2000, react against the playoff tested Celtics? I don't know, but since I'm not a Knicks fan it will be fun to watch. I still predict the Knicks win this series, but Boston has been much more of a challenge than they should have been.

The Celtics didn't do real well on the Meads Metric either. However thumbs up to Kevin Garnett for scoring 16 points and grabbing 18 rebounds. He also hit that big clutch shot with just a minute or so left in the game. Garnett just barely made the Meads metric. He scored 16 points on 15 combined free throws and field goals. However Garnett played within the offense and didn't force anything. Not that the Knicks really run a offense. They basically isolate Anthony and stand around and watch.

Oh and Steve Kerr as an announcer is horrible. He picks a team to support and sticks with that team throughout the game. Yo Steve, there are two teams playing. If it was up to me Jeff Van Gundy would call every NBA playoff game. First of all he's funny and he's also not a complete corporate tool like Kerr et. al.
