Dodgers Daily, May 27th, 2013: Dodgers Win An Ugly Game

Hello,

The Dodgers were able to win a very ugly game on Memorial Day, beating the Angels 8-7. LA had 3 errors, including one by Matt Kemp. Kemp was removed from the Dodgers game on Saturday through  a double switch by Don Mattingly. Mattingly knows that his job is in danger and he's wanting to win some games and he's trying anything. Kemp was given the day off on Sunday, but it doesn't to seemed to have helped. Kemp responded to his day off by having an all around ugly game Monday. He was 0-5 from the plate, including 4 strikeouts. His batting average continues to decrease, now he's down to a .253 batting average for the season. At this rate he might not make the All-Star game and I think that would be perfect for him.

Andre Ethier, who has been basically reduced to a platoon player, was mostly given Monday off. He had one pinch hit and earned a walk. Ethier has the same batting average as Kemp: .253. He's probably the most expensive platoon player in MLB. Zack "Rocky" Greinke had an ugly performance as well. He only lasted 4 innings, gave up 10 hits, 6 runs- although only 4 of those were earned. The Dodgers defense was terrible in the early innings, when they committed those 3 errors. Obviously that didn't help Greinke any.

In spite of all those things the Dodgers were still able to break the Angels 8 game winning streak. The Dodgers won this game, but the two teams are going in the opposite directions. The Dodgers are now 21-28 and have a 3.2% chance of making the playoffs. The Angels are 23-28 and have a 15.3% chance of making the playoffs.

The Dodgers were down by 5 runs at one point and still was able to scratch out a victory. Besides the comeback win, there was other good news for the Dodgers. Adrian Gonzalez is as hot as Kemp is cold. In his last 3 games, Gonzalez is 9 of 11 with 3 doubles and 7 RBIs. On Monday he was 4-4 and is now hitting .337 on the season.

Juan Uribe seems to be adjusting to his role with the Dodgers, whatever role that is. After entering the game as a pinch hitter he remained in the game. He was 3 for 3 and is now hitting .278 on the season.

Game 2 of the 4 game so-called freeway series is Tuesday night. The Angels will send former Phillie and former Dodger Joe Blanton (1-7, 6.19 ERA) to the mound. He'll face off vs. Hyun-Jin Ryu. With Greinke having two poor performances in the three games back from his boxing career, I suggest Ryu is now the Dodgers second best pitcher. Ryu is currently 5-2 with a 3.30 ERA. After his disastrous boxing career, it's good that Greinke had a baseball career to fall back on. Greinke please don't miss any other games because you got in a fight.
