Carmelo Anthony Shoots 50% And FInally Meets the Meads Metric, Detroit Red Wings Battling

Hello,

Spurred by a 30-2 run the Knicks cruised to an easy victory over the Pacers on Tuesday. Carmelo Anthony was 13 for 26 from the field and 4 for 4 from the free throw line. According to the Meads Metric since he took 30 total shots, he should score at least 30 points. He actually ended up with 32 points. He was 106% on the Meads Metric, easily his best in this playoffs.

Although I wasn't able to watch the game I have a couple of observations. It seems Anthony trusted his teammates more, although his meager 3 assist total wouldn't attest to that. He "only" shot 26 shots last night. He hit exactly half of them, obviously that's 50%. This is Anthony's first game he hit at least 50% in the playoffs. From his typical 8 of 24 and 10 of 35 shooting games, Anthony was "on fire" last night. I couldn't find the exact stat but I believe that Anthony scored 11 points and was at his hottest in the 4th quarter. So he played his best when the game was essentially over? Anthony also added 9 rebounds, 2 steals and 0 turnovers.

Following Indiana's win Sunday afternoon SportsCenter coverage Monday morning barely mentioned the Knicks series. And that's exactly what it is, the Knicks series. If you listen to the national media it's easy to forget that the Pacers are even playing in this series. The Pacers are getting as much coverage as the Washington Generals get against the Globetrotters. However following the Knicks Tuesday win, SportsCenter couldn't talk about this overrated Knicks team enough. And how many times were they going to show Shumpert's great dunk? Great dunk, but I don't really want to see it 15 times.

Now we have to go back to hearing about the greatness of the Knicks. One New York columnist went so far as to talk about Anthony's "leadership". Please.

Anyway Pacers-Knicks is now tied at 1 game a piece. Now due to how much the playoff schedules are screwed up, Game 3 isn't for 5 more days. I hate corporate America only caring about making money.

I wanted to make sure the Meads Metric isn't expecting too much of a players shooting ability. I took the recent games of 3 other NBA superstars for comparison's sake. First up is Steph Curry, in Game 1 of the Spurs-Warriors series Curry shot 35 field goals and he met the Meads Metric. Since Curry isn't as hyped as Anthony, he doesn't get as many free throws. He only had 2 free throws and had a combined total of 37 shots. He still scored 44 points, which is 118% on the Meads Metric. I know what you are saying, but he's a better shooter than Anthony. Well you got me there. Curry also had 4 rebounds, 11 assists and 2 steals.

LeBron James had a "bad" game in Game 1 of the Heat-Bulls series. He shot a total of 17 field goals and 9 free throws for a total of 24 points. He was only 92% on the Meads Metric. In James bad game he also had 8 rebounds, 7 assists and 2 steals. Kevin Durant's shooting night was 11 for 21 and 11 of 12. He shot the ball 33 times and scored 36 points. That's 109% on the Meads Metric. Durant had 11 rebounds, 9 assists and 1 steal.

I believe the Meads Metric is a very fair indicator of how a person is shooting, both in actual points and quality shots. Just yet another stat that shows how overrated Anthony is. And isn't it interesting when Anthony seemed to trust his teammates more, he had a better shooting game?

I'm extremely surprised the injury depleted Bulls were able to beat the Heat in Miami. However the only thing that does is fires up the Heat and gives them something to play for. Because the Heat are so talented, sometimes they become disinterested. With the Bulls winning Game 1 the Heat will play much better tonight. I predicted this Heat team would lose 1 or 2 games before the NBA Finals, they now have one of those losses. But I'd be highly surprised if they have another loss in this series. The Bulls winning Game 1 has elevated this game to must see from being snooze worthy.

I'll be honest I'm not a very big hockey fan. However the last couple of years I've been following the Red Wings. They've struggled since I've followed them, that's the kind of impact I usually have on teams. They were lucky to even make the playoffs this season. However the 7th seeded Red Wings have been giving the 2nd seeded Ducks fits in this playoff series. The series is now tied at 2 games a piece. Game 5 is tonight in Anaheim at 10:00 EST. Both teams have both won and lost at home in this series. The game is on NBC Sports and it should be a battle.

Go Red Wings!
