December 4th College Football Aftermath

Hello,

It wasn't much of a battle as West Virginia defeated Rutgers 35-14. Although they have the best record in the Big East, they may not win the conference. If UConn wins they will win the Big Least. With a win UConn would go to 8-4 and go to a BCS Bowl. Really? Due to the stupidity of the BCS, the Big Least gets an automatic BCS bid. They are one of the alleged "power conferences". Are you kidding me, an 8-4 team in a BCS bowl? UConn will represent the Big Least in a BCS Bowl. TCU will be in the Big Least conference soon and they'll show the rest of the conference what major college football really looks like. I would love Boise St. to play UConn in that BCS game. That would be one team who deserves to be in a BCS Bowl vs. UConn.

Unfortunately it wasn't the Karma Bowl, #2 Auburn easily defeated South Carolina 56-17 in the SEC Championship. With the NCAA's bizarre ruling that Auburn quarterback Cam Newton is eligible, even though they acknowledge that that his Dad was shopping him around. I loved how the announcers were going on and on about Cam Newton, indeed he's a great player. For how much his father was shopping him around for, he should be. He seems like he's a happy guy and has a lot of enthusiasm. Other than the BCS and SEC apologists, he's always going to have a taint on him though. The best thing for everybody is if he just comes out and admits everything he did. Does anyone really believe that he doesn't know about his Dad shopping him around?

I wanted to see Auburn lose in hopes that TCU gets the chance to play in the BCS National Championship game. That scenario didn't happen so we don't have to worry about the BCS shenanigans in that matter. TCU's regular season was over last week as they crushed New Mexico.

#2 Oregon played and didn't quite destroy Oregon State. I wasn't caring who won this game. I knew Oregon State played at home, I didn't know how they could beat Oregon. Oregon has that blur offense and I don't know if anybody can stop them. Oregon didn't dominate this game as much as I thought. It looked like they were just going through the motions, it was a very methodical victory over OSU. I never really thought OSU had a chance to win this game, did anybody?

Oregon-Auburn will be a heck of a battle, that could be a very high scoring game. I have no idea who will win. It would be hilarious if Newton is found out to have known about his Dad shopping him around, he gets disqualified and the BCS has to reshuffle all of it's bowl games.

Tomorrow night there will be two works of fiction on TV. The Season One Finale of "The Walking Dead" vs. the BCS Bowl Selection Show. Which one will you watch? Those two shows have a lot in common, both have zombies playing major roles in them. Both shows have people that are brainless and only doing what is best for themselves. The attractive women are few and far between. It's frightening how much in common the BCS and zombies have in common.

For those of you who are friends of mercy, please pray for Utah State. One of the nation's worst college football programs Utah State went into Boise to play one of the best college football programs Boise State. Unlike the coach of Wisconsin, BSU coach Chris Peterson doesn't believe in running up the score. He's not one of the idiots that's playing to satisfy the BCS's idiotic idea of "style points". Style points as defined by BCS advocates is to score as many points as a team can on a hapless opponent.

If Peterson bought into that nonsense, BSU could have won today's game by a score of about 80-7. However BSU took their foot off the pedal in the third or fourth quarter and will only win 55-7 was my prediction. I was actually off a bit, they won 50-14. Thank you Chris Peterson for coaching with class and not humiliating USU to satisfy the gluttony of the BCS.

Tonight we also had the ACC Championship Game, another conference with very few good teams, at least one more than the Big Least though. I predicted that Virginia Tech will defeat Florida State in a close game. And they did 44-33, I didn't anticipate that much scoring though. I cheered for Virginia Tech to win, which they did. That further legitimatized BSU as a Top 5 team in the nation. Although since BSU lost once- once to a fired up Nevada team playing at home- they are going to be relegated to a meaningless bowl game. I hate the BCS!!

Earlier I didn't mention the Big 12 Championship Game. It looks like this is shaping up to be a classic. I had forgot about this game, not because the two teams aren't good. They're just stuck in that nether world where they are good teams but not challenging for the national championship. Neither are also a team that's local to me. #9 Oklahoma beat #13 Nebraska.

There are other games today, none of the other games have very much importance. Two mediocre teams played when USC-UCLA kicked off at 10:30pm EST. At halftime USC leads 14-7. USC is still one of my favorite teams, but they really have gone downhill in the last couple of years. I'm not sure Lane Kiffin is the person to return them to glory either. It will be hard to recruit over the next year or two as they come out of the NCAA sanctions.

Nevada didn't blow out La. Tech as much as I thought they would. Poor Nevada they've only lost one game, beat the #3 Broncos in overtime and when it comes bowl time, they'll undeservedly be rewarded with a crappy bowl. Then Nevada thought they were improving their conference, leaving the meaningless WAC. Only now they'll be entering the depleted Mountain West Conference. I didn't watch any of this game but Nevada seemed like they were also rather methodical in their victory over La. Tech 35-17.

Meanwhile a less successful Big East team will receive an automatic BCS bid. One thing for sure about today's games, it proves again that there needs to be a playoff.
